Why is he conducting? These aren't complex songs. I don't get it. These tunes aren't G Spot Tornado or Be Bop, etc. His musicians should be able to tackle them without Zappa conducting, in my opinion.
@richcapo Then you just need to apply some brain work to understand why he's "conducting" the band during this song titled "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee".
@richcapo Sorry, but I don't think I got too nasty. I just think you haven't really thought about the question you pose. It's obviously not a very important matter either, so don't take it like that.
I was fortunate enough to see Zap on this tour at the now gone Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston-tis was 30 years ago, but what I remember most was Zappa was really an incredible guitar player-he had a Les Paul, it seems, he sat on a stool and jammed for what seemed like a half hour maybe more-I told a young friend about how amazed I was at his guitar playing-she said "Who's Frank Zappa?"I explained he wasnt known for his guitar playing,His sense of humor and creativity were his bag
Wow, Ike AND Ray in the camp!!! I have a SBD Boot of the Ahoy gig of this same tour and it is one of my fave FZ gigs. So smooth and Jazzy this line up... Arthur Barrow sounds like Jaco!!! I love the augmented Pick me I'm Clean/Society Pages/ I'm a Beautiful Guy/Beauty Knows no Pain... Genius Genius Genius...
Guess you only get one chance in life to play -Well no-one told me about her... Damn! Farking genius!!! At least I got to see the '88 shows & met him (in the family home = P) in May '89 to make up for all the shows I was too young to have seen. Happy FZ day (December 21) to all!
Ray White, Frank Zappa, and Ike Willis are the lead singers and performers in this band. At this time (1980) there were no U.S. rock bands that had black lead singers. Zappa used black lead singers (and instrumentalists, ie. George Duke, Ernie Watts, Napoleon Murphy Brock) throughout the 1970s, a time when U.S rock music was almost completely segregated.
saw him in 73 doing songs about dental floss before there were released on albums. {remember albums?} Edger Winter group and Head East were the back up bands oh and the tickits were 5 bucks each general admission lol. oh and just thought of this ,,,,, first time i ever smoked weed too.. lol. I was 13 years old and ready to rock woot........
From the girls in the neighborhood They'd all come over 'n' dance around like... Twenty teen-age girls dash in and go STOMP-CLAP, STOMP-CLAP-CLAP... So we picked out à stupid name Had some cards printed up for a coupla bucks 'N' we was on our way to fame Got matching suits 'N' Beatle Boots 'N' a sign on the back of the car 'N' we was ready to work in a GO-GO Bar.... Hes so damn good!!! When he died I was just 4 I didnt have the opportunity and the honor to watch Frank Zappa
1985, FZ and band arrive in Orlando. I'm a bellman at a Marriott. I stood in the lobby and watched him check in. I took Ike Willis to his room. Tickets were given to the entire bellstaff.
@Leebrown103 ... it was in '88, which was my 1st concert ever when my dad took me to see him when I was in 4th grade!! I was gratefully born & raised on Zappa music!
this is my favorite Zappa project! Zappa was and will always remain a genius, although he is sadly gone (R.I.P) his music and idea's will live on for generations! I love this guy!

I was at the Zappa-concert at Calf Island in 1973 in Oslo. My first hippie concert, only five years old, and Zappas music hit a chord in me. When I was ten I walked into a mall in Miami, put all my dough on the counter and bought my first 2 LP´s (!) ever, Sheik Yerbouti and Pink Floyd The Wall. The dude behind the counter was so impressed that he gave me a special edition of The Wall. Zappa was a rhythm genius and the first choice of all musicians.
the transition from joe's to wdihwip was awesome. Why doesn't youtube offer a freetranslation type service for people of a certain language so like english speakers would get the spanish on youtube automatically translated for them.
When ever I have time, I put my headphones on and enjoy the music of this genius composer! FZ is still my absolute hero. I saw over 30 live concerts between 1974 incl. the last concert in frankfurt germany with the modern art ensemble (yellow shark) - his music and art always cheers me up....
Actually Shin, Mr. Zappa almost ALWAYS conducted his bands from 1972 - 1988, no matter if they were playing live or during rehearsal. U really should research a subject B4 U comment. Especially when it comes to FZ!!
