  • I'm so glad they had the wait 0:05 second button to skip the rest of the commercial because I was in a hurry hear Sade voice.

  • Maybe its just a throw away track at the end of her second album - but it's still my favourite Sade track. The lyrics are really evocative!

  • I'm 15 years old, and Sade is one of my favorite artists of all time.

  • @TWILIGHTJUNKIE1192 Same here!!!

  • People feel the need to move one at times, for something better.

Though what they leave behind is irreplaceable as well.

Can you fully replace reality with a memory?

There's nothing like a good friend.

  • 1:35 So apparently "wicky wacky" was a dance from the 80's. Her brother Banji drove her 30 miles to this club with her friend Maureen? 2:02

  • um one of my absolute Sade song!!!!!

  • Bedankt, Sade, voor het zingen van dit liedje

    mijn naam is maureen xox

  • timeless music

  • My sister's name is Maureen and she's in the Army. Listening to these lyrics freaks me out so much. It's beautiful, but I just want my sister to come again safe and sound.

  • @msmoniquebat And nothing for the bastards!

  • All Maureen's aren't bad... Maureen O'Hara is beautiful!

  • You can feel Maureen, by the way she speaks about her. This song is just too beautiful.

  • sup maureen haha EAST OAKLAND USA

  • I always think of my friend Maureen/Michelle went I hear this song. Friends in college, miss her, never saw her again.

  • Where are the lyrics? It says (with lyrics), but there are none.

  • @girjaye click 'show more' with the arrow pointing down.

  • @girjaye sade is singing the lyrics lol

  • @girjaye Hi girjaye, the words are where you see the beginning, after the heading of Maureen, where it says more. Then just click the " show more", to see the lyrics. <3 Kat

  • My girlfriend's name is MaureeN!!THUMBS UP!!!

  • This song describes my big sister to the TEE! I miss u sooooooo much, big sis! RIP

  • @TWILIGHTJUNKIE1192 18 and an old soul too! LOL

  • MY NAME'S MAUREEN! YIPEEEEE!!

  • I'm sorry, I must have not understood, but I had no idea, she was from the U K? I could of sworn, she was from somewhere like Brazi, or some other " Paradise". Not nothing against the U K, I would love to visit or likve there someday. So much interesting history, and i think amazing castles. (or am I living in a fantasy land). But I really don't think she would write a song about " someone stealing her man". And I stand to differ about the car thing?

  • Ok, it is about a souped up car... Great, so touching about a car. I loved my '65 Mustang... It died a horrible death. Hit by a jerk driving through the intersection at 60 mph in a Dodge Charger.

  • I'm sorry, I must have not understood, but I had no idea, she was from the U K? I could of sworn, she was from somewhere like Brazil, or another " Paradise"

  • @tkatfun

    I agree...Brazil makes perfect sense

  • Maureen did not pass away...she took her man! "you'll never meet my new friends." I have had that happen to me I don't even say her name...

  • @parplegal2B sorry i have to strongly disagree with you. you can search all over the net where there was an interview done back in 88' saying its about a friend that passed away... if you need proof ill give it to you

  • @parplegal2B no, sorry, it is about a good friend of sade's who passed away.

  • This song has love written all through it. Friendship can be stronger than some family ties...

  • I love SADE. She is a gift to my ears and music pallet! Thanks for posting!

  • She's talking about her friend maureen that passed away....Beautiful song that she wrote for her:)

  • THANK YOU !!!

  • Loooooove this song!

  • 25 people are comatose.

  • Never meet my new friends. Timeless

  • CLASSIC!! CLASSIC!! MY FAVORITE SADE TUNE OF ALL TIME!!! Amazing she's talking about a car - only Sade could make this so smooth

  • Simply the best of the 80's, in my humble opinion...Sade was successful in blending jazz and pop in a way no one had done before.

  • TIMES CHANGE THE MEINING OF MUSIC ALSO SEANDS A MEASSAGE WE CAN LISTIN FOR PEACE

  • AWESOME

  • Long walks with my Ipod touch on my arm

  • @choco36tyme U Ain't Lyin!

  • 25 people, Don't need ears.

  • every time this song plays on my car's cd i have to hit the repeat at least 3 times - damn i love every note of this song and i wish it would never end. it so sad she wrote this about her friend that passed away.

  • This song reminds me of the time riding Amtrak from Covallis, OR to Oxnard, CA on spring break back in 85. I was listening to both Diamond Life and Promise on my walkman for the entire trip. It makes me sad when I listen to 80's pop music. Man...the years have gone by quickly. Go Beavers!!!!

  • @jfhc777 I'm an 80's Baby myself

  • @CWC880 if you were born in the 80s, you were too young to listen and understand this music. I was in my early teens and twenties in the 80s. most of the young folk were introduced to oldies through youtube and feel that their generation have been robbed in quality of music. What you young folk can't do is relate the song or video to that particular period...that is something special and powerful....reminiscing with memories of that time period...do you understand what i'm talking about?

  • @jfhc777 I was born in the 90's and i understand it <3 Although i act a little old for my age , must admit .

  • @celinathehottie Maybe I should have expounded a bit more. When I say if you understand the music, I am not talking about understanding the lyrics. Anyone can listen to a song and try to understand the lyrics. What I'm referring to is understanding the different styles or genre of music in the 80s, how it came about, and how it influenced us in that period. For example new wave and new romantic dominated pop music back then...

  • Comment removed

  • @jfhc777 I hope u don't misunderstand me, but there are cultures that have been listening to the same style of music for centuries. Time is irrelevant. Cultural music is timeless and in most cases does not change from generation to generation. What we experience in the west is a manufactured culture that evolves solely for the purpose of SALES!!!! Our culture and music is in a constant state of flux because it is in the hands of marketers who see ppl as demographics.

  • @osensei2987 Did you read the entire comment I made to celinathehottie? It seemed that someone spammed the second part of the comment. I think you truly misunderstood my point...go back and read the second portion. I understand that music is timeless. I was born in the 60s and have listened to many styles of music. I love music of the 50s and can feel the vibe of the music, but I won't be able to truly connect to it because I didn't exist in that period. I play the classical guitar...

  • @osensei2987 to continue...I play the classical guitar and love playing pieces from the romantic period. I truly have a passion for this period. I can only read the music history of this period on how the music came about, but I truly won't understand or connect to it because I didn't exist during that time. Do you understand what I'm talking about?

  • @osensei2987 you are so right!!!! i never in life hoped to say that about this country, but all the pop music put out is not good. all the good singers just put crap out, so i thank God for singers like Sade. love her so much.

  • *tears* Memories of my dear friend Marion (killed by her boyfriend '91). I always change Maureen to Marion when I hear this song.

  • @prissy979 Sorry to hear about your friend. I bet she is up there in a better place...

  • Was hooked the first time I heard a cut off this album. not a bad track on it

  • this remind me of the early 90's north side of chicago where all the gays hang

  • I used to iron my work shirts to this whole LP. What a sultry voice.

  • i love this song.. it reminds me of my childhood friend... to the T... too many shenanigans... but it was fun and I miss her... i think she passed.... not sure but she was into some pretty bad drugs later on... :(

  • Never would have thought, I would need to put a friendship down. I don't speak her name...She was a fun loving girl in my world. She'll never meet my new friends. She was a snake in the grass. Objective was to literally "come" between me and a potential. Girlfriends never go after your friends High School Sweetheart. She'll never meet my new friends. Never, I don't even speak her name after 26 years. She'll never , EVER meet my new friends...

  • @parplegal2B get over it u fkn pshyco

  • THIS IS THAT LAST CALL FOR ALCOHOL SHIT RIGHT HERE.....THE MEMORIES IS PRICELESS OFF THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!.. NEVER MEET MY NEW FRIENDS !!!!!!!!..LOVE IT.

  • Dedicated to my baby Holly.

  • Thomas redman this is for you ..I miss you

  • Wish I knew a Maureen so I could tell her about this song!

  • How YOU CRITICIZE SADE?????

Another DISGRUNTLED FAN!!!!!!!!! WOMAN DOES 100 PUSHUPS IN 60 SECS!!!!

  • I still enjoy this song

  • Promise is the perfect album, period. The fact it ends with this song seals the deal. Her last two albums were good but I wish Matthewman would pick up the sax again and tone down on the drum machine, like in this song.

  • She just one of our music treasures gifted and timeless just love everything about her music artistry. Good to have back on the scene.

  • this is my all time fav by Sade.

  • What's so interesting about this is that it's a sad song but incredibly COOL and UPBEAT. :) Sade really makes you imagine how cool her friendship was with Maureen when Maureen was living.

  • I feel Sade's pain. Its spiritual because Sade pures her heart into her songs.

  • Definitely not just my fave tune by Sade, but one of my favorites overall. Man, that breezy, smooth jazzy groove just cooks. I can put it on repeat & just let it go without ever getting tired of it! Ahhhh, the perfect summer cruising song...

    Thanks for sharing, peace!

  • It is also my favorite.I wish I knew her

  • love it..havent heard it a while!!thanks youtube!

  • always kind of makes me want to cry...

  • my absolute fav singer of ALL time... hope she tours for this new cd...

  • @jpmk55 She is touring! She's coming to the US after 20 years! Her tour begins next summer!

  • Sade will always be one of the greatest voices in my life.

  • ya just cant go wrong with sade

  • Love love love this song! Listening to it is a great way to remember the happy fun times we had with all those we"ve lost, no need for tears now just fond memories!

  • Yeah, this song reminds us of friends whom we've loved and lost. This song always reminds me of my best friend who was killed in 1991. We had these nut ass cats in Philly who called themselves the JBM (Junior Black Mafia). They were slaying people who didn't sell their dope. My friend was not even into that shit and they killed him. Anyway, this joint reminds me of all the fun we had growing up.

  • @nubonyx I feel you, that's really sad. I lost a close cousin of mine in a similar way. These punk ass gangs never up against real killers. Do you ever hear them go into Italian/Russian Mafia or Asian Triad neighborhoods fucking with them. Never cuz they know what will happen.

  • @nubihotep , you're right. Cowards always prey on those who cannot defend themselves. The coward that killed my best friend had to catch him off his guard or his punk ass would have caught the vapors. My friend kept us all laughing so hard that we would have stomach cramps, but if you crossed him an ass whuppin' was soon to follow. He was never a follower, never joined the gang where we lived, but all of the gang members respected him and wouldn't even think about fukkin' with him. LOL

  • @nubonyx So true, that's sounds like my cousin. LOL! He was a spiritual brother/warrior, extremely nice with his hands with a serious knuckle game but only when necessary. Most of these gangs are a bunch of clowns with no self confidence and broke as hell with no organization. At least organized crime syndicates(still gangs) are about making money and don't F with people who are not involved. Hey,keep ya head up never forget your friend,he shined some great love in your life. :0)

  • @nubihotep, will do family. Peace!

  • Yes, a party song, but with sad words....a friend you have to say goodbye to, because you're moving.

  • I am still so entranced by her oh-so-sultry voice. I heard this song when my wife and I were still dating, and twenty five years later, Sade's voice still so riveting...AND I'm still married to the same woman. Thank you, Sade, for that voice and your music.
