  • Awww I cried. :'( I have two greyhounds right now, they're twin sisters, born in 2005, and didn't even make it to the puppy races. Then we adopted them from a nearby adoption center. We were going to only get one, but we couldn't separate them! We adopted them on Valentine's Day in 2008. Their racing names were Fame and Fanny (the litter was all F's) but we didn't like Fanny, obviously. So we changed Fanny's name to Fortune, and their names are Fame & Fortune. They will be 7 on September 5th. :)

  • I have 3 dogs right now and when they go on to doggie heaven, I will be adopting from my local shelter...I have no idea what breed my next furry friend will be, but he/she WILL be loved!!! I would love to be able to help a greyhound, they are such beautiful dogs.

  • @sagagirl321

It gets worse. Greyhounds are 2nd most unwanted. And first ... Staffordshire Bulk terriers. They are born to die. 85% of Battersea dogs homes intake in Staffs.

Dogs are so special. I don't understand why they still love us anymore...

WE ARE SAVAGES (well the bad ones are- most people are nice :) )

  • this video shocked me. never knew this was how they were treated. brought tears to my eyes!

  • I cry every time I watch this video....

  • The only thing I hate worse than Greyhound racing is the sad crappy songs they play on videos like this. Edit the video because my home state if Massachusetts vote down Greyhound Racing!

  • We adopted a greyhound last march. We are in love with her!! We will always have at least one of thesebeautiful dogs.

  • they banned dog racing in massachusetts

  • the greyhounds at 1:40 are beautiful!!! this is an awesome piece for awareness for these dogs!! the only sad sacks who go and watch this outdated sport are 1950's lounge lizards and lowlife gamblers betting nickels on pipe dreams. It really does need to be outlawed for good.

  • no offence to anybody, but what is the point in watching this video if your not going to do anything to save these beautifle animal? An amazing video that raises awareness, all the best and i hope some day people will understand how wrong it is to race greyhounds to feed gambling habbits.

  • Greyhounds are bred to drive America's gambling habit. How would you like if I bred you just so I can make bets on how fast you'll run. They are extremely beautiful dogs, and its a shame that so many are put down.

  • I've been living in a small house with my mom and dad for 9 years, so we haven't been able to own a dog. I'm 15 now... as soon as we move out, I have to rescue one of these darling animals. I'll do everything for that dog...

  • I'm only 19, but have been helping with greyhound rescue for years... this is so heartbreaking... i can't wait till i have my own house, own three greys and care for many more on the side. what gentle, intelligent, loving creatures. this is not fair :(

  • My wife and I have adopted two retired racers. The first never actually raced. The second had 30 races, and was significantly more banged up than our first. We adopted him in July 2010, and his last race was the previous November. He could barely take a 10 minute walk without being exhausted. That tells you how much exercise he was given in that time. But he's getting in better shape now and can walk just as long as his 'brother'. They're both great dogs. Their past makes you love them more.

  • i adopted one of these wonderful animals in May of this year and is the best decision i have ever made. She is the most gentle, funny, lazy, greedy, affectionate, dog ever lol. I would recommend a greyhound to everyone and anyone!!! The charity in Scotland i rehomed her from do an amazing job.

  • i resqued a greyhound her name is zena. i love her to bits. i hate the people that kill such beautiful gentle animals. my family and i travelled 4 hours each way to get zena and that was the best thing we ever did !

  • Just want to say this is no different in the UK. I have a rescue greyhound and he has given me and my husband so much joy in the last 2 years. I couldn't imagine my life without a greyhound to share in it.

I can't believe the industry is able to continue in this way.

  • Andrew Gough. Wales. Last Hope. Rusty. Google it. You will adopt a Greyhound.

  • Thank you, its tragic. ONE LOVE

  • Great video! My step-dad adopted a retired racing dog they were going to put down. She was perfectly healthy too. Her name is Alli and she is by far the sweetest dog I've seen in awhile. She is definitely a couch potato, doesn't bark really and is just as gentle as can be! They make great family dogs. I would recommend a Greyhound to anyone!

  • Save yourselves the trouble next time.......GET YOURSELF AN AMERICAN BULLY!!!! Souuu-WHOOOP!!

  • don`t rescue a greyhound.....kill humans!and let them free!i realy wish from the deep of my heart this planet exist with no humans in the future couse humans is the evil element in this planet!we came from hell!and we go straight back there again!

  • the abuse of animals, like in gh racing, i cant even describe....henous!!! i think God must be furious. we need to pray and pray hard for all these animals and never support things like gh racing. my neighbors have a rescued grey she is a big baby.

  • Thank you

  • I adopted a 2.5 yr old female ex-race greyhound. And she amazing. I highly suggest adopting one. there are plenty of non-profit organizations who help save these kind dogs.

  • Such a sad life for all the greyhounds, they only get an hour or two of freedom a day, and they're racing carrers are short and they're owners kill them. My greyhound is the happiest dog in the world he can just lay down on a couch and be happy.

  • This Is Sad :'(

Such gentle dogs :( LOve their feet aha

    Perfect companions!

Well Done u guys for all your hard work and patience with these lovely dogs :)

    All the best!

  • this sport is disgusting. my family went to a greyhound track when we went to florida. when one of the dogs didn't want to go in the gate and was tugging on his leash, the man leading him kicked the dog in the face.

  • yeah this makes me so so anoyed right now... :(

  • Here some justify breeding GHs to exploit them at the f-n racing tracks. I rather stop breeding those beautiful animals than breed them for torturing.

I despise people who involved in GH racing! They should be confined in those cages for 22 hour a day. Then Justice would be served.

    Thank you, great video clip.

  • Yay I just submitted an application for fostering and adopting some ex-racers!

  • i totally agree with you. I havw two ex racing greyhounds and wouldnt go for any other dog now. They are just so full of love and are just looking to be treated right and cared for. There is too much greyhound abuse and it has to stop. As i type im being kicked off the sofa so my girl can get more room haha. They make the best pets

  • This just breaks my heart

  • so sad, i can't even watch all of it

  • kevinfart1 You crazy you have no feelings.!

greyhound rescue give this dogs a good life

my parents en mi en my sister have adopted one dog to she is precious and sweet :D

  • Great awareness video - loyal, loving, undemanding and totally under valued breed - anyone reading please consider this breed : )

  • An excellent video to raise awareness, thank you!

  • The music is by Cat Power, off her album,

"The Covers", and the song is titled "I found

a Reason", originally done by The Velvet Underground.

  • Beautiful, heartbreaking.

  • the adoption problem isnt a greyhound problem your so blind look at how many other breeds die from no being adopted greyhounds are a small percentage.

  • Yes it is, greyhounds are born for racing, 50.000 a year, they stop being racers after 3 or 4 years, then they are too old, and will need to be destroyed. Most of the 50.000 per year end up dead. There isn't any other breed that is treated like lifestock this way.

  • well i work at a track and most of them end up dead because no one will adopt them. so now that they are shut down about 90% will be killed and they will no longer be bread in this state so yeah good job and making them one step closer to no longer being bread.

  • oderus by name and oderous by nature. for a start it's spelled "bred" not "bread" you semi-literate primate. Its great your track is shut. I'm even happier that you are out of work. why not spend your time in the family meth-lab business? or having more sex with your sister?

  • well i guess its to bad it got shut down i feel bad for all the greyhounds that are being put to sleep now thats the owners can not afford to feed them and only a handful of people would adopt them. but as for me im making twice as much teaching teakwondo and as for that meth lab that doesn't exist id be loaded if it did.

  • So you lost your job? I will celebrate this event by the glass of wine and two curses for you, imbecile.

  • i dident loose it i quit before they are going to be shut down now i have a full time job as maintenance and i teach tea won do part time they it was a blessing for me to bad you love to help kill greyhounds

  • This is a vert touching video and thank you for creating it! Who sings the background? It is beautiful!

  • A very moving video .. so sad !!

  • Lovely, wonderful video. 5/5 :d I luf greyhounds.

  • Love this vid! So true! My sis has 2 adopted greys from HOUND HAVEN. They are really couch potatoes! Precious Hounds!

  • i adopted an ex racer, one of the best things i ever did, what a wonderfull charater, all i have to do is look at her and it brings a smile to my face.

  • Excellent Video:O!

  • Thankyou for posting this video. it really does speak the truth, hopefully if we all promote rescues then all dogs (esp greys) can get the second chance they deserve. not a greyhound owner myself but have 2 wonderful rescued lurchers. again thankyou for such a moving video.

    xx

  • Thank you for this. As soon as I get back from vacation (next week) I plan to adopt a greyhound. Can you make any recommendations on where I should adopt from? I live in Northern NJ..

  • Hi Dovelahr,

How wonderful you are interested in adopting a greyhound!

    There is a website,

    adoptgreyhounds. org

click adopt and, find adoption groups. I checked, there are several groups in New Jersey.

Another fun thing to learn about is "Greyhound Gang", run by Claudia in S. Utah that helps promote greyhound adoption around the country.

There are so many incredible people who devote their lives to this situation.

    Take care!

  • Thankyou for a great video and for showing the truth about greyhounds there in USA ...I have 3 rescues here in UK and try to help many more Unwanted greyhounds find homes we need to keep making videos like this to show people worldwide what great pets greyhounds become ......thanks once again for shring the video .....tony (savegreyhounds) on behalf of Sadie.. Sparky..& Trixie and all greyhounds every where.....

  • This is so moving. Thank you for the information. In particular, the list of states that still have legal racing.
