Because 2 stroke motorcycles are a pain, especially when they're low capacity engines. The engiens ware out a lot quicker so you'll have it in the garage every couple of months if you thrash it day in day out.

mabey if you beat it and run it under water for awhile never did the topend on my rm for like 2 years and the only reason i did was cuz i blew a head gasket and i rode the piss outa it cheaper to redo 2 stroke top end then 4 stroke by far and alot quicker..

i'm going on two years on my rm125, i have about 50 hours on the top end right now and i'm planning on going another year - 100 hours. The 2 strokes are a ton cheaper and easier to repair when you finally do take it into the garage to rebuild. I bought my top end kit with everything needed, rings, piston, wrist pin bearing, etc. even gaskets, for 94 dollars.
