i love the gear pods and don't doubt the quality, but i think they are bit on the pricey side for pre-made kits...i feel like i could buy most of the items a bit cheaper (and of course the time to buy them) and fill the gear pod that way. what do you think of the price relative to other pre-mades?
Wow, what a great idea! Tis is one of those products when you see it you say "why didn't I come up with that" The cook kit did seem to function well as an all in one unit.
I have been noticing a couple of people "reviewing" these gear pods. Is think company just sending these things out to people and asking them to review them or did you actually find these, pay for them, and find them worthy of endorsing them?
They sent me one and I felt it worthy of reviewing. Lots of companies send me things or ask me to review their gear and only about 1/10 th of it is worthy of a review. I won't waste my time making a video on junk. I want to let people know about good stuff. But if anyone asks me, I'll tell them what's junk.
love that. would be awesome to camping or a fort or four wheeling. i love that i will definitly be checking that site out. great video and thanks for sharing
This is interesting for some things, mainly what you mentioned. In your car, boat, camper, etc. I'd never take a gear pod on a multi-day hike or cycle tour though. I already have my "oh crap" kit made to suit me, I don't need more stuff for it or the extra weight. However, this would be a good kit for anyone heading out for a day hike who expects to be back before nightfall and may not know what they need to take with them.
Which container? The pods? I don't think so but that might be a multi-use application. The containers are waterproof. I forgot to mention that in the video.
I think these products have their place. The cook set is very nice. I doubt that I would pack it around, but as you said would be handy to have in the truck. I think the prices are okay considering the quality of the products.
Just looks like another commercial way to add weight to your pack and take up valueable space. I'm surprised that you said that you didn't think it would apply to the Lightweight backpacking world and then you followed that by saying that you liked it and you were going to get more stuff to fill out your kit,, I'm a bit confused by that. I personally will check out the website but won't be buying the pods. It just seems redundant to me.
I was referring to the individual items like fire starting stuff that they carry. Not the pods. I wouldn't carry the pods themselves but, like I said in the video, I would keep one in my car, boat, etc. to have a good emergency kit on hand.
They are pretty cool especially the stove. I just cant get over how much all that stuff cost you. Other than price the only issue I have is the weight of the tubes, their a bit to heavy I think.
Nice video Jason. I disagree about the price comment. Infact, the price is very reasonable considering everything you get and the quality of the components. For example, the tarp is top notch and not some flimsy piece of plastic. You can see the attention to detail in many of the components and storage system.
You don't have to buy the who system. If you look at the individual components, their prices are actually pretty good. Also, keep in mind that there is a LOT of stuff in those things!
You should check out countycomm(dot)com because they have a alot of stuff like the things in the last gear pod you showed. The one with the fire symbol. They have a lot of great gadgets at low prices.
just googled the company...Gear pods..this is what I found out
Shelter Pro -$75
Survival Pro-$90
BackCountry-$110
Wilderness-$165
Hunter Package-$211
Rescue Solo-$200
and Frontier - $250

they are way to bulky to carry in a pack, just another gadget

I have to admit, I was underwhelmed with the actual pod. It looks a bit heavy to take with you, but as you said, the stove is quite impressive.
Question: How does the lid handle the heat if you boil water with it on?
BCoutdoorsurvival 1 year ago
Neat little stove setup, but $60.00. I think not.

Nice review. Some interesting components, but the pod system seems to be a product looking for a purpose to exist.

The cook set is 60$. The shelter set is 60$. The survival pouch is 50$.
That's 170$ for everything featured in this video. No way.
