nice tutorial very good I have just started picking locks. I have bought a lock picking set form the Net but i have'nt got it jet. But your tutorial have helpet me a lot.
With all due respect to your rather well-done video, I could never understand the practical use for picking a a padlock - unless it's just for fun. As a working locksmith who has come across locked padlocks several times weekly (with no key available) for years, it's clearly a waste of time to pick them. That's why Home Depot sells grinders. Because unless you need ballast for your boat (or just wanna practice picking) they're useless.

Oh, and by the way, i bought this lock to try to pick it with paper clips, but the lock just won't open... Im so frustrated. I really dont know wtf i am doing wrong.

Well i threw my Master lock No.3 out the window. onto the pavement. its a bit scratched and dirty but heres a quick question. is it possible to pick my lock with.... not lock pick tools.. lol like ghettified ways? no not a gun to the metal. like bobby pins and all. if so can you explain how? i like ur vids also.
I can't get any tumblers to stay in place whatsoever. I was working on the very first pin, which I could see clearly. I put too much pressure, and the pin wouldn't move, then I tried slightly easing the pressure, and the pin just drops all the way. I was just working on the damn lock for an hour and a half, but I could not get one single pin in place. It's a Masterlock bike lock.
youre not much of an artist, but ive been wondering how to use my pick for ages (got it when i was like 10) and this was the best demonstration, better than the directions that came with it
That 532 is such a joke, I took it back to Lowes and asked for my money back. It's the most expensive lock they carry complete with security pins and it never takes me more than a millisecond to jiggle it with even a paper clip. The 532 is a waste of money anything stuck in the keyhole while torsion is applied WILL open the 532 get anything else this is not even a beginner lock.
hell yeah its hard sometimes, thats why you need to use bumpkeys, i got a set at superbumpkeys. com and they open doors and locks in just seconds. and these guys have the lowest price for bumpkeys too. i recomend to anyone. bumping is the way to go.
You can pick all locks, but not master lock ? considering that master lock is one of the easiest locks to pick it leaves me to wonder what kind of locks have you picked and how many?
I was asking what manufacturers and models, door locks, padlocks, bike locks doesn't explain what level of security they provide, also what kind of master lock are you working on? then i can give you some advice on how to open it
lol when you try to pick one does it feel like you have all of the pins but it wont turn? thats because of one or several security pins insode the lock which prevent it being tampered with and being picked successfully.
try changing amount of tension... Or you could have a master lock with security pins in it. If this is the case you are probably just not good enough to get it to work.
I'm having trouble starting picking. I'm not exactly sure when the pins are setting, or if they are at all. I mean, I can feel them going up, and when I release tension on the wrench, I can hear a couple clicks, but it never seems to hold.
The one I'm trying to practice on is a Masterlock No. 3. The lock inside seems to be a little loose, but the key still works. Would that make it difficult for a novice to apply the right amount of tension?
First of all, i wouldn't start with a master lock no matter what number it is. Find an easier lock, maybe a 4 pin lock to start off with so there arent as many pins to worry about. Put tension on the wrench for the WHOLE time of the picking process and start from the front to back pushing up on the pins. I have vids out already about how to pick locks but not in very much detail so ill make a better one.
When you release pressure on the tension wrench count clicks. If all the pins are falling that means you are over setting. If less than all the pins fall it means you didnt set them all. You can find the number of pins by google or counting with a hook pick.
Master No.3 should not be any trouble. The looseness would probably make it easier. When a lock is all gunked up and hard to turn it makes it harder
Tension is a linear force. Torsion is a rotational force. Since we use the wrench to put a rotational force on the lock it should be called a Torsion Wrench. Tension wrench is a misnomer.
Its called a tension tool because it is used to put tension on the plug. when you put the "Tension Tool" into the lock it is not torsion that is being put on the lock because there isn't much of a rotational force, there is just tension. If you want you could call it a torsion tool as you are spinning the lock open?
Are you putting the tension in, out, left, right, up, or down on the plug? no, you are putting torsion on the plug in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction.
@etanderson Torque is a Rotational force. Torsion is the twisting of an object because of torque applied to it. Your tension wrench does experience slight torsion when you pick a lock. But that torsion is not an important part of picking the lock. The Tension wrench is giving a Torque to the lock causing Tension on the pins. That is what is important.
good vid, but let me ask you something, can u that in a am5200, i got a question about transponder "t-code usa" any one with experience with it or any kind of mvp mmsg me got some question i got thanks
Have you ever lost your keys? Have any of your friends ever lost their keys? Every once in a while I pick a lock for someone who lost their keys. It's not a criminal skill; it's a basic skill.
Great video and i do agree. Master locks are quite easy to pick and im just starting out. I had picked up a Master lock 530 thinking it would be a challenge. I had picked it in the first 3 mins.
Can you suggest any other locks that could offer a more intermediate challenge?
I HAVE A PROBLEM , hi i am from the netherlands and i brought a europ and japanees lockpick set 'Southord c1500' when i try to pick my house lock the pins keep comming back up , so if i pull the pick down it just comes up again if i leave it again ... What am i doeing wrong !?!?!?
"Tension" refers to a linear force. Torsion refers to force applied in a circular motion. Because we apply force in a circular fashion with pin-tumbler locks, we should refer to it as a torsion wrench. Tension wrench is a misnomer. Thanks a lot for your helpful hint.
yo man i def like the vid..i jst started learning how to pick and im doing ok so far i just need to get some tools but im not looking to spend alot of $ did u make yours or did u jst buy them? im just gona pick locks like the one u deminstrated and maybe my house locks so would i only need 2 tools the torque wrench and the rake one? please msg me back sometime soon so i can get workin on this haha thanks man
have you had a chance to pick a lock with spool pins or serrated pins yet? If not You will know serrated pins because one can see them sometimes on the first two bottom pins.good luck
I have a little problem, when I try to push all the pins to th shearline one by one, they won't stay they just keep falling down, why is that, I'm a beginer and I open it sometimes but not always only when I push the paper clip around randomly, I wanna know exactly what I need to do to open it, the lock itself is nothing special, plzzz help. Nice vid by th way I'm impressed:)
ok, first I don't want to offend you but the problem with the lock picking is this:
When You buy a lock and You learn the characteristics of this specific lock then it's easy to pick it up, but the problem in the real world is that when You need to pick lock that You never picked before it's not that easy, and sometimes need much much more times, even hours, isn't???
I suppose your complaint is with lockpicking in general. There are different types of locks. This tutorial is for the common type, a pin-tumbler lock. It's on padlocks, doors, and other medium-low security places. With practice, most of them can be picked by someone with my low level of lockpicking in a few minutes.
Indeed, the characteristics of certain locks in general can be learned and so whether its the one you own, or a new one you've never seen (of the same brand) you still have a great knowledge of it's workings.
and typically a lock should hopefully not require hours, as their is no scenario i can think of that would allow for that kind of time. with practice and knowledge of the TYPES of locks, a higher ability of picking each one faster should be gained.
Most locks are pin-tumbler locks so they will be of a similar make but Number 532 just references this specific lock. It's like saying that's a Porsche 928, that's a specific type of Porsche.
I had trouble finding a good video when I started, so I've always hoped that I provided a little better instruction than others with this video. I hope it helps everyone out :D
Ok! I just care about one other thing. Are there some locks that are totally impossible to pick from the front to the back or is it just that it's easier from the back to the front? It's a bit hard to nail the pins properly if you start from the back sometimes.
I just love 4.38 - 5.00!
"But this lock it happens to take just a light touch, to each pin, from the front to the back, and that light touch will open the lock. However, I don't always have that light touch
Lol, yeah, I sounded like Mr. Rogers there. :D It's not that some locks are necessarily impossible to pick the pins front to back or back to front it just depends on what works best for what lock.
What happens if you put to much tension to the lock? And how do you know when you have hitted the pins correctly so it reaches and locks itself in the shareline?
you need to ajust the tention with ur finger just keep trying till u get used to it and u can feel the little clicks in the locks wen the pin goes up thats how i opened my lock in school.
does the pins have to be picked altogether (you pick one and keep it up while continuing with the other ones), or can you pick one, release it and pick the next one and continue that way?
You have to pick them all together. If you release the torsion/tension you are keeping on the lock with your wrench, all the pins will fall back into their original, locked positions.
I'm a beginner myself, but think i learned a lot from your video. Thanks very much!... And one question!: Where do you get your tools, and can i eventually make my own tools?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why does no one that makes these videos mention that possessing lockpicks is illegal in most states unless you are a licensed locksmith? If you are not they are consindered burglaring tools.
Nice vid. I will have to get one of those locks just to feel it out when i can cheat and look at the bitting. Msg me direct about picking sometime. A good "T" wrench for door locks can be made from winshield wiper spines. They are long and can be arced like a bow and 'ding' nicely when a pin is set. Any ABLOY tips about their boltwork? Do a vid about warded locks so every1 quits using them. All viewing this have fun and pick legally!!!

WTCL3G3ND 2 years ago
Sounds like you're not putting torsion on the lock while you pick.
etanderson 2 years ago
Ik denk dat je een beveiligd slot hebt met rubberen blokjes onder de pinnen die de pinnen weer terug drukt, maar kan het fout hebben.

do u no the diference between a stainless steel pick or a spring steel pick...btw wich one do u have?
itzzzzzMik3y 3 years ago
tension wrench. not tersion
treysmithorama 3 years ago
"Tension" refers to a linear force. Torsion refers to force applied in a circular motion. Because we apply force in a circular fashion with pin-tumbler locks, we should refer to it as a torsion wrench. Tension wrench is a misnomer. Thanks a lot for your helpful hint.

have you had a chance to pick a lock with spool pins or serrated pins yet? If not You will know serrated pins because one can see them sometimes on the first two bottom pins.good luck

can i buy lockpicks from a locksmith store ??????
Giboudi 3 years ago
I have a little problem, when I try to push all the pins to th shearline one by one, they won't stay they just keep falling down, why is that, I'm a beginer and I open it sometimes but not always only when I push the paper clip around randomly, I wanna know exactly what I need to do to open it, the lock itself is nothing special, plzzz help. Nice vid by th way I'm impressed:)
igor0091 3 years ago
ok, first I don't want to offend you but the problem with the lock picking is this:
When You buy a lock and You learn the characteristics of this specific lock then it's easy to pick it up, but the problem in the real world is that when You need to pick lock that You never picked before it's not that easy, and sometimes need much much more times, even hours, isn't???
neuroza 3 years ago
I suppose your complaint is with lockpicking in general. There are different types of locks. This tutorial is for the common type, a pin-tumbler lock. It's on padlocks, doors, and other medium-low security places. With practice, most of them can be picked by someone with my low level of lockpicking in a few minutes.
etanderson 3 years ago
Indeed, the characteristics of certain locks in general can be learned and so whether its the one you own, or a new one you've never seen (of the same brand) you still have a great knowledge of it's workings.
and typically a lock should hopefully not require hours, as their is no scenario i can think of that would allow for that kind of time. with practice and knowledge of the TYPES of locks, a higher ability of picking each one faster should be gained.

does it matter what number is it?
stupidlilaznkid17 3 years ago
Most locks are pin-tumbler locks so they will be of a similar make but Number 532 just references this specific lock. It's like saying that's a Porsche 928, that's a specific type of Porsche.

it never works for me but i do exactly as everyone says

thank you it took me 15 min to find a good video.

I had trouble finding a good video when I started, so I've always hoped that I provided a little better instruction than others with this video. I hope it helps everyone out :D

can i get a lemon square-making tutorial next?
hivehivehivehivehive 3 years ago
Maybe, Al. That's a pretty good idea.
etanderson 3 years ago
However, I don't always have that light touch
.
.
.
But sometimes I do" <3
blahbaer 4 years ago
Lol, yeah, I sounded like Mr. Rogers there. :D It's not that some locks are necessarily impossible to pick the pins front to back or back to front it just depends on what works best for what lock.
etanderson 4 years ago
Yeah, thanks. I'll try :D
GreatKingOfDonkies 4 years ago
What happens if you put to much tension to the lock? And how do you know when you have hitted the pins correctly so it reaches and locks itself in the shareline?
<3
blahbaer 4 years ago
you need to ajust the tention with ur finger just keep trying till u get used to it and u can feel the little clicks in the locks wen the pin goes up thats how i opened my lock in school.
adiavishalom 4 years ago
does the pins have to be picked altogether (you pick one and keep it up while continuing with the other ones), or can you pick one, release it and pick the next one and continue that way?
Thanks for a great vid <3
blahbaer 4 years ago
You have to pick them all together. If you release the torsion/tension you are keeping on the lock with your wrench, all the pins will fall back into their original, locked positions.
etanderson 4 years ago
Hey pal.
I'm a beginner myself, but think i learned a lot from your video. Thanks very much!... And one question!: Where do you get your tools, and can i eventually make my own tools?
GreatKingOfDonkies 4 years ago
I get them from lockpicktools dot com. It's possible to eventually make your own, there are lots of videos about that on youtube.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Why does no one that makes these videos mention that possessing lockpicks is illegal in most states unless you are a licensed locksmith? If you are not they are consindered burglaring tools.
ReneeNme 4 years ago
Because its not illegal in most states. The restrictions are mostly on sale/transfer of tools and not acually possession.

it's called civil disobedience. All the people in "these videos" own the locks they pick.
