he was the captain of arsenal for many years he was a keystone in their defense and without him they might of not won many of the tittles they won in the 80's and 90's the reason he is in here besides being a pretty good player is that he fought alcoholism which at many points in his life almost killed him because he was involved in bar fights a car crash and a shooting i blive. but now he has gotten "over" this problem. i feel like a trader for knowing this x.x...C.O.Y.S.!!!
ummm...as much as am a spurs fan i got to admit tony adams was one of the greatest english defenders and you just might be a fair weather football fan because if you werent you would no the longer term battle adams had with alcoholism through his career that at many times almost put an end to his career. Adams played 22 years all of them at Arsenal and he is considered the best gonner centerback of all times.
sorry for this 3rd comment but In the other music video to this song (just look it up) at about 1:30 when the say like adams in the docks/ dark you can see a figure kick a soccer ball also lets not forget the band is english and aresnal is an english football team btw in Britain and Ireland the defendants sit in a pen in the center of the courtroom called the "dock"(tony adams was jailed a few times cause of his alcoholism )

Pretentious pricks like you, who "really love this kind of music" as long as they "found" it "forever ago" are far more irritating than the kids, any day. So, dickface, go suck it, and burn your records, you never loved that song anyway - you just loved being exclusive.
@toekneekei excuse me prick, guess who doesn't even give the slightest fuck what you have to say? ME!!! do you know anything whatsoever about me? i do not believe so. i was not being a "pretentious dick", (i can use quotations as well) so guess what?, go play in fucking traffic, and do the world a favor, remove whatever got shoved up your ass as a child. buh-bye.
Just because you don't care what I have to say, doesn't make it untrue. You ARE a pretentious dick and the rest of the world can see it. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, you know? I'm already doing the world a favor by telling you to SHUT THE FUCK UP, so I'll be skipping the mid-lane enema. Why don't you listen to the song again, and see if you can figure out what it really MEANS, and then see if you can apply it to this situation, because you have FALLEN DOWN.

Actually, this is aUK band. Adams in the dock is a reference to Dr. John Adams of the 1950's who was accused of murder. In England, his story was in the papers even before he got to trial. It was a done deal except he had a good lawyer and great questions were asked. He was acquitted. You can read about it in a book by Sybille Bedford. The dock is a place you stand when you are on trial.
"Greatest comeback since Lazarus" is what they said about Muhammad Ali. And that is a reference to the bible
does anyone know of any way or where to find the instrumental version of this song, that is, the entire song without the vocals? Please? please send me the site or url or link, whatever you'd like to call it, but I'm really looking for it.
This song illustrates that no matter what happens to you, you take anything and throw it back twice as hard. Get back up, and take on the world no matter what. When you have the chance, grab it, and never let go of your dreams, ever.
Agreed. Although I'm pretty sure the Ali in the jungle reference is of his incredible defeat over George Foreman in the Congo in 1974. It was called the "Rumble in the Jungle".

How about...Like Simpson in the courtroom - American Football Player OJ Simpson beats a double murder rap even though there was overwhlming evidence of his guilt.
yea but that was more of a matter of the judge/jury being retarded, and he also hasnt done anything amazing after that, but all of these people have overcome massive obstacles and then done something remarkable
The line is actually "Adams in the dock" and likely refers to the trials and tribulations of English footballer Tony Adams. His career was plagued by run-ins with the law, mostly alcohol related. Adams eventually owned up to his alcoholism, writing a critically acclaimed autobiography called 'Addicted,' and ultimately turned his life around. His nickname is "Mr. Arsenal" as he played his entire 22-year career for the Gunners.
its actually about a ship, the last sailing ship in the united states military. it was scuttled to prevent it from being stolen was put back into service very recently.
No, it's Tony Adams, not a ship. The expression "in the dock" refers to being on trial in a British court. It's nothing to do with boat docks. Also, if you check out the original video on The Hours' website, you'll see the figure kicks a soccer ball when the line is sung. Trust me on this one: it's a reference to former Arsenal footballer Tony Adams.
@MacRheidyr Not to undermine you or anything, but let's take the intepretation a little more literally, as the rest of the mentioned aphorisms. (is that applicable? Maybe.) Anyway, I believe the Adams is referencing Francis Adams' working in the 19th century to promote higher wages for dock workers. Hence, Adams in the dock. It fits a little better with the whole, arching theme of 'overcome and then change the world.'
Soccer just seems a little trivial to be mentioned in comparison. :)
Despite his injuries, Simpson lowered himself further into the crevasse and found a way out. Hypothermic and dehydrated, he still faced crossing a glacier unroped, and with a broken leg. He crawled down the glacier and the moraines over 3.5 days, all the way back to base camp, finding Simon just hours before they were due to leave base camp.
After cutting the rope Simon went down the mountain, saw the crevasse and realizing Simpson had fallen in (although he was unable to see Joe). Yates thought that if Simpson hadn't already been dead when he cut the rope, then the fall killed him.
Yates tried desperately to support him, uncertain what exactly had happened and believing Joe to be dead. After hanging on to Simpson for over an hour, Yates had to make a choice: Be pulled from the mountain into the abyss and certain death, or cut the rope. Yates cut the rope that had been holding his partner. Joe fell into a crevasse below, landing unexpectedly on a snow bridge.
British mountaineers Joe Simpson and Simon Yates, were trying the first ascent of the West Face of a peak in the Peruvian Andes, Siula Grande. On the way down, they hit rough terrain, Joe fell and broke his leg, the tibia splitting his knee.
Yates tried to lower Joe down most of the mountain. But despite Simon's rescue attempt, Joe ended up hanging over a steep ice face in the middle of a building blizzard . . .
ya it seems that a bunch of people heard about this song through that great nike commercial. i am so glad they found this song, it's so original and catchy! i love it!

yea but that was more of a matter of the judge/jury being retarded, and he also hasnt done anything amazing after that, but all of these people have overcome massive obstacles and then done something remarkable

@jimmyboy14432 It's not adams in the dark, it's adams in the dock. it's a reference to samuel adams and the boston tea party.

adams in the dark?

The line is actually "Adams in the dock" and likely refers to the trials and tribulations of English footballer Tony Adams. His career was plagued by run-ins with the law, mostly alcohol related. Adams eventually owned up to his alcoholism, writing a critically acclaimed autobiography called 'Addicted,' and ultimately turned his life around. His nickname is "Mr. Arsenal" as he played his entire 22-year career for the Gunners.

its actually about a ship, the last sailing ship in the united states military. it was scuttled to prevent it from being stolen was put back into service very recently.
mikehuizar15 1 year ago

Absolutely amazing story of human survival.

After cutting the rope Simon went down the mountain, saw the crevasse and realizing Simpson had fallen in (although he was unable to see Joe). Yates thought that if Simpson hadn't already been dead when he cut the rope, then the fall killed him.
bigcat4jesus 1 year ago 3
Yates tried desperately to support him, uncertain what exactly had happened and believing Joe to be dead. After hanging on to Simpson for over an hour, Yates had to make a choice: Be pulled from the mountain into the abyss and certain death, or cut the rope. Yates cut the rope that had been holding his partner. Joe fell into a crevasse below, landing unexpectedly on a snow bridge.

About "Simpson on the mountain" . . .
But despite Simon's rescue attempt, Joe ended up hanging over a steep ice face in the middle of a building blizzard . . .
