@IneadAbanana all health concerns need to be discussed with a medical officer during your medical exam. You will need to talk about this specific concern with a recruitment officer because your health involves confidentiality issues that we can't discuss online. Good luck!
@redace52 -Combat engineer's can build roads and bridges. They can clear land mines & IED's - just to name a few things. Check out the forces.ca website for more details.
Not to seem condescending in any way, but my god this whole process looks rather friendly. I know in videos almost all armed services "soften up" what the public sees going on in Basic, but after watching Parris Island stuff for a few hours this looks a damn sight less terrifying.
Yes they place them in their civilian lock-up. I suggest you do not bring them to begin with, as you will not need one. However something like a multi-tool is acceptable.
@mastahlone I have asthma as well...however it's never kept me from doing anything. Just work at it to build your lung capacity to compensate if you need to. You will be just fine. The platoon's PT will start off relatively easy. I had to run off to take my puffer a few times myself, and they never denied me that right.
@mastahlone According to the website, as long as you are not limited by your condition, you can still be accepted. I have well-controlled moderate asthma, and they've told me that I'll need a letter from my doctor and pulmonologist, but as long as they give me the OK, I'll be good.
@olegcartoons This should not be a problem. However, your local recruiting centre can provide further details, including if any trades for you to join will be eliminated.
i want to join so bad but running is my vice i can sprint but long distance running is pretty hard cause i don't have those long legs you know i can do everything to get in but the running any help are advice for training or if you do training for that
@Freepepsi42 build your stamina, practice & develop a style. that's a stupid reason not to join. there are plenty of jobs in the military that require no running at all.
@Freepepsi42 there are plenty of programs on the web that are free you can follow to build to 5k. I went from running 2.5 to 5k in about eight weeks. I also play hockey three times a week to build my stamina so that may be a bit faster then you could. But like I said, find a 0-5k program, some of them are great and you'll find yourself in two weeks feeling a huge difference.
@frown151 No they are Private recruits. once they're done that they're considered Private (basic) then after they do their DP1/QL3 they're Private (trained) then they get their chevron after that.
@frown151 there is like three diffrent types one for traing one for right after training and one for after everything all schooling and like ready to deploy
im leaving in aug. just curious, what happens if say in first express test i fail the hand grip , or the pushups ... i know im fine on sit ups and beep test.? but if i do feel do i just continue normal bmq, and retest week 10 or ?
@NoseBleedMusic there is a minimum that will get you put on PAT platoon. My buddy is there now and he said a few guys from his platoon failed the pushups but are given 30 days to pass the test. Then they get another 30 days. After another 30 days if they fail they are out. But your mind set going in should be "Always do your best". Hoping to meet the minimums is not the best way to approach basic.
@saintrobbie375 as long as you get 75 pounds on the grip test, 6 on the beep test, 19 sit ups, and 4 pushups you will make a platoon. They give you till week 8 to get to 19 pushups, or else you go on wft platoon.
As a wife of someone who just finished BMQ...this was a very helpful show. Thanks in advance to everyone of you who do take the plunge, those who are serving and those who have served. As a side note the support of your family helps with your success. The Grad was amazing. Hugs
Just submitted the online application. Wasn't able to find Armored Soldier as an occupation option though. How long is the recruiting process for military occupations in demand? I am stoked for this!
I'm just now heading off to basic in a month and i have been going through the process since the end of may. You might be waiting for a while and maybe you'll get in in a matter of weeks I really can't say. But keep busy in the mean time It can be a very .. very long wait.
Canadian Basic is a lot different from U.S. Basic. With the U.S. Basic, you don't get to leave the base on weekends and you can't smoke, but Canadian Basic is longer than most U.S. Branches Basic's except the U.S. Marine Corps.
You guys are going to have the time of your lives...BMQ is shit, but I have never had a better feeling in my life than graduating from basic.
Just play the game, guys...play the game. Take the shit, and use it to motivate yourselves. The staff doesn't yell because they like it (well, for the most part). They yell because they want you to improve.
I went to SAIT too! Had to do a medical withdrawal in early february for surgery, but I do have my certification. Going down tomorrow to talk with the Navy guys, and hopefully start the paperwork to get in as a MARS officer (I do have my BA Arky from U of C)
Be sure you are strong in math that you can do in your head, as you will need to know math. I had tryed out for MARS officer but insted I'm going in as an Armour Officer.
I actually had a long sitdown with a buddy's brother that just completed MARS Phase 4, and also talked with PO2 Woodward at CFRC Calgary, and remustered my App to NESOp (first choice), NCIOp (2nd choice) and NavComm (3rd choice). NCM = more along the lines of a career plan I have :D I love the staff at the CFRC. Sooooo understanding of my enthusiasm :D
Based on the first episode part three one of them say that it took them 3 years to call her. Is that how long it takes them to make a decision if you are hired or not after all the testing and everything is complete at the recruitment centre?
Because that is unbelievably long, lots of things change in that timespan. People cant be expected to wait THAT long for an answer. Even one year is a long time for an answer.
I'm a reservist so it's probably different than full time employees, but I believe it took me about 4 months to recieve my call from the day I finished my medical/interview etc.

The requirements are very easy to meet. Although just meeting the minimum makes BMQ harder.
