btw dude my Audi engine sound exactly like yours. Still trying to diagnose the problem 6 months on,.

  • there is a serivce bulletin on alldata about this and audi offers no recall or fix for this they say do not replace tensionor they expect u to replace engine and hop it doesnt have same problem. iatn has some techs who r using a motor flush and switching from synthetic to regular oil and is workin on some cars. we are currently tryin this before diggin in to check oil screen or replace tensionr. it should stay up once oil press bulids but yes will drop at idle at knock or knock on start

  • There is 17 rollers on your chain between your timing marks. Should be 16

  • Turn up the radio !!

  • Hi everyone,I have a 99 Audi A4 and I got the same crappy noise coming from the engine like a valve noise but I think is permanent, what could that be?

  • Hey. I have a similar problem too, I think.

when i start my car there's a sound like a rattling chain. later when the engine warms the sound comes down a little bit. What could it be? thanks.

  • replace the chain tensioner

  • Change chain tension.

  • Verify oil pressure switch and the oil you should use is 5w-30. Also, you should pour a quart of oil in the cap next to the oil filter.

  • @moyiguer I believe the recommended is 5W-40.
