When the writers were sitting around the table talking about this, I'm sure they had quite a debate on how Tuvok was going to kill Neelix. Slit his throat? Hold his head in a deep fat fryer? Rip his still-beating heart out and shove it in his mouth? The list is endless! The bad news was, they could only do it in one episode. Now, if they'd shown Tuvok repeatedly going to the holodeck to try different ways (like Garak did with Quark), that would have been fun, too!
I love the music as neelix dies and falls to the floor. The sound of the dramatic horns wailing proclaiming the death of neelix in the shows self absorbed/self-righteous attitude
Anyone who thinks there is a more annoying Star Trek character than Neelix is simply wrong. And I am not saying that passionately or plaintively, I'm afraid it is the objective truth that he is the most annoying regular character in a Trek series and detracts from the quality of the show at every turn. It is unfortunate.
@Akhenaten2011 Wesley is close, but not quite. Def the most annoying character on TNG by a landslide, but Neelix actually inspires a desire to do violence. Wesley is annoying in the way that many over-eager kids are annoying. The quality of Neelix's voice; his inflections and mannerisms churn up hatred in the pit of one's stomach.
In many ways, the Vulcans are just as irritating (though in a different fashion) as some of you think Neelix is (or dating back to TNG, as irritating as some think Wesley is). Their self-proclaimed superiority gets to be too much.
neelix is that annoying redheaded kid we all knew in grade 6 or so, whose name was likely Bobby or Brendan that thinks hes your friend, but doesnt understand your need to have him fuck off.
This is the sole reason why Vulcans should have embraced their emotions, and why I like the Romulans.:They kill annoying adversaries. Neelix wouldn't have lasted one week on a Romulan warbird. You were so close, Tuvok!
@AngryChamois Or, given that he's worried that he might be losing his self-control in this episode, and wants to test if he can restrain himself when he's severely pissed off, he's considered what would be most likely to send him into a murderous rage....and decided that it's Neelix. Sounds about right. XD
Well Neelix, I was fairly disappointed in your rendition of that song. You were off pitch the whole time and I think you didn't get the words right at all. For shame Neelix, for shame
if i was the captain i would tell tuvok. you did a good job. and the official records state that neelix choked eating one of his own cooked dishes. lol
I swear when I was younger I saw a preview for this scene on UPN but Tuvok stabbed Neelix. I couldn't have dreamed that, could I? Either way, it is awesome. I still think there should have been an episode where someone found that program in the database and then the crew took turns running it. You know they all want to,
I never really hated Neelix, but I thought this scene was funny. Honestly, the best part is when you think about it, Tuvok probably goes into the holodeck and murders the people who annoy him, like all the time. It's always the quiet ones...
Ill be honest: I didnt like Neelix at first either. But actually its pretty funny that he is annoying everyone on this ship and still doesnt get dropped off on the next uninhabited planet... and that way... i got used to him and actually i couldnt imagine Voyager without Neelix trying to pwn the doctor or tom all the way through the Delta Quadrant...
This definitely qualifies as a fanservice moment. Realizing that they'd created a highly annoying character that no one liked, they gave we, the viewers, a wonderfully executed scene of Tuvok killing Neelix in a justifiable moment of rage. Too bad it wasn't real, but I bet Tuvok goes to this holodeck program every time Neelix annoys him.
I have to be the only one who actually likes Neelix...yeah he's annoying, but he's entertaining; for example this scene. Who was heartbroken when Tuvok said "end program"? EVERYONE!
Kinda like Peggy Hill from King of the Hill...so fraking stupid and annoying but entertaining none-the-less.
You should have ended the video just before he said "Computer, end program." It would have been much more awesome that way. Would have seemed more like he really killed him. Hehehehehe!
this scene if it were real and not some stupid holodeck thing would have made voyager so much better, even better would have been neelix dying in the 2nd episode!!!
Hmm... So Tuvok was testing his limits, and he needed something that would make him really angry... So, does he create a simulation of his children being brutally murdered? How about his wife being raped?
No, he creates a conversation with Neelix.
