When the writers were sitting around the table talking about this, I'm sure they had quite a debate on how Tuvok was going to kill Neelix. Slit his throat? Hold his head in a deep fat fryer? Rip his still-beating heart out and shove it in his mouth? The list is endless! The bad news was, they could only do it in one episode. Now, if they'd shown Tuvok repeatedly going to the holodeck to try different ways (like Garak did with Quark), that would have been fun, too!

Anyone who thinks there is a more annoying Star Trek character than Neelix is simply wrong. And I am not saying that passionately or plaintively, I'm afraid it is the objective truth that he is the most annoying regular character in a Trek series and detracts from the quality of the show at every turn. It is unfortunate.

Wesley is annoying in the way that many over-eager kids are annoying. The quality of Neelix's voice; his inflections and mannerisms churn up hatred in the pit of one's stomach.

Realizing that they'd created a highly annoying character that no one liked, they gave we, the viewers, a wonderfully executed scene of Tuvok killing Neelix in a justifiable moment of rage.
