The whole idea is to combine the CPU, keyboard, mouse and monitor, into one convenient and compact device. But hey, there is a downside to this idea. Once any of the important compartment becomes KO, the entire device becomes unusable. Unless the cost of getting a tablet could be cheaper than the combine cost of CPU + Monitor.
I have a shit load of PC's they all perform a function & earn an income for us, after nearly 30 years using computers I have finally got an Ipad2 to communicate Facetime with my 91 year old mother who also has an Ipad2 which she learnt to use in a matter of weeks. My Ipad is by my side when I relax, go on Youtube, Ebay, read the newspapers, look at photos & play my music also the battery lasts 10 hours, maybe if the android clone drones made good batteries they might catch on, Apple got it right

Current tablets (iPad included) are a joke. They're little more than toys. Serious users will always be using PCs. Now, there may come a day when you have a PC in tablet form-factor, but I, for one, will still want a physical keyboard. This is why the ASUS Transformer tablets are such hot devices. People like the portability of the tablets, but they still want a keyboard, and they always will.

The whole idea is to combine the CPU, keyboard, mouse and monitor, into one convenient and compact device. But hey, there is a downside to this idea. Once any of the important compartment becomes KO, the entire device becomes unusable. Unless the cost of getting a tablet could be cheaper than the combine cost of CPU + Monitor.

I have a shit load of PC's they all perform a function & earn an income for us, after nearly 30 years using computers I have finally got an Ipad2 to communicate Facetime with my 91 year old mother who also has an Ipad2 which she learnt to use in a matter of weeks. My Ipad is by my side when I relax, go on Youtube, Ebay, read the newspapers, look at photos & play my music also the battery lasts 10 hours, maybe if the android clone drones made good batteries they might catch on, Apple got it right

PC means PERSONAL COMPUTING. Ask ourselves this question. Does iPad does any computing activities? Is it a machine that perform calculations, logical functions and etc? If yes, that heck, PCs will be ever relevant because the idea is, its personal and it computes!

I like Bill Gates more but the thing i like about Steve Ballmer is that he wants to make a device that isnt just for microfoft officeand is for entertainment. Microsoft wanted to make a tablet before the iPad. It was called the Courier tablet. At that time, Steve Ballmer was CEO. Steve Ballmer asked Gates for advice on the tablet and Gates said it sucks since it doesnt come with an email app. Bill Gates was stuck in the past.

Microsoft can use someone who is aggressive, they have been all too passive, and Ballmer has recently pushed for design changes that have and will in the future, do microsoft a world of good. Yes he is not the most calm or clear person in the Tech industry, however his decisions are clear and though tough in reality are quite well thought out. ex: his policy on firing the bottom portion of VP's each year. seems crude yet is good overall....

All these items add up in which you will find Apple has more money than Uncle same. They now make more than MS.

Current tablets (iPad included) are a joke. They're little more than toys. Serious users will always be using PCs. Now, there may come a day when you have a PC in tablet form-factor, but I, for one, will still want a physical keyboard. This is why the ASUS Transformer tablets are such hot devices. People like the portability of the tablets, but they still want a keyboard, and they always will.

The desktop PC with NEVER cease so long as there's people with greater needs for things other than consumption/surfing the internet. Unless these guys decide to stop locking tablets down, I just don't see a dedicated machine that can do extremely heavy lifting going away. I mean, how to you record and master your bands first album on an ipad, for example? It's currently impossible.

Windows 8 is a way of expressing the idea of tablets being able to do just as much as a proper home computer or laptop by running it on a full desktop-like operating system. MS produces amazing products no doubt about that. It's just that a large number of those products are on catch up course instead of first mover advantage. A larger problem, they lack a roadmap that they stick to. It's a constant backtrack and run around etc. So yea. Ballmer is a businessman. Not a visionary

If he said something on the lines of the iPhone not gaining market in the future or being the product which defines what smart phones shall be like for the coming years, then yes - i agree he made a booboo.
