  • I remember my X-Wing returned with a lot of holes xD

  • I remember there was such a sense of accomplishment when you completed missions in this game. Some of them were really hard work!

  • Who stuck Jan Dodonna in a trash can?

  • I was 10 when they released it... so many memories! This game was HUGE, about 15 Mb!! And I just keep listening to the music without stop. Thank you for the video!

  • ...aah, this fuckin` cool game cracks up to 3 Joysticks on my desk ))

  • Press ESC, enable unlimited weapons and invincibility + collisions, fly into everything, kill all the ships.

  • what a great game those were, wish there were more of that kind of game on Star Wars ...

  • this was my favorite GAME!!!

  • Was this for DOS? I remember my dad playing it, but I don't remember him using DOS or DOS-Box

  • oh man............... OHHHHHHH MAN

  • For '93 this looks insane.

  • I didn't really know wtf was going on, but I got a boner anyway.

  • THUMBS UP IF THIS GAME MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH SPACE SIMS

  • what i like most about this game is how the "complexity" of the presentation makes up for the utter simplicity of the gameplay. yet the game is still amazing. you'd have to have been a kid in 93 to understand.

  • do it absolutely need a joystick to play ?

  • the simpsons music?

    xd

  • didn't you know the keys for converting lasers into shields and vice versa (i did find them late in the game but its awesome basically i sacrifice all my lasers to shields and put them both on recharge

  • DAT MUSIC

  • Ah the memories total buiscit reminded me of this old game i should play

  • Are any of you using dosbox to run the collector's edition cd? How do you set up dosbox so that it will run the game, because I've tried multiple times with no success.

  • is this game on a floppy disk? Because I have the ebay link to something thats titled this on a floppy disk.

  • Absolutely BADASS voice acting.

  • Great game, unfortunately you had to play thru one mission before able to get to the next one and some missions were so tough you had to do it again, and again, and again until you give up in frustration and go to bed. 5 minutes later you get up and you try it again.

  • Wow this brings back memories :oD

  • What a Game - would love to play this online

  • I used to love this game.....played with my Dad a loooong time ago. So glad i found it again!

  • I'm just 15 and I still am in love with this this was my dads game then he passed it on to me I wish that ther was multiplayer but this is still easily one of the best games ever ps I put 200hours in to it never board

  • @aceospades1250 Used to play this game with my dad; drove him MAD triggering that message over and over... and over... and over... ;)

  • One of the first MMO concepts in history. Brings back Nostalgia.

  • The video doesn't transmit the full power of the game.

There is no interest on simulators lately. In fact, the game industry is turning more into a tv station than games. Most gamers expect brilliant graphics, but are incapable of invest 2 or 3 days into a game investigation. I used 3 years to complete Tie Fighter; most games this days are expected to be 20 hs.

All in all, one of the best games I played.

  • @sjmuniz No interest? ArmA is pretty popular game.

  • @ghos7bear I am currently playing arma II. Still lack the patience to handle 10 teenagers willing to kill just everything that moves, but working on it.

  • "Alte Zeiten" *heul*

  • i miss this game.

  • The best game ever made

  • So many nice memories of my late childhood and early teens with this game :)

  • I want a Star Wars flight sim on the same level as IL-2 or Falcon 4: Allied Force :)

Have a feeling it won't happen in the near future, though, what with all the arcade-crazed MW children dominating the market...

  • I missed this kind of game where you don't just jump into the game and play..instead you take your time through all fascinating briefing and eye candy scenes

  • damn speed up!

  • During briefing i tried pressing play to skip Dodonnas boring jibberjabber...

imagine my confusion when the "game" paused and displayed a big 'play' button in the center of the screen...talking about immersion ;P

  • Interesting how they got Arnold Schwarzenegger to play that guard at the beginning...

  • I have like three copies of this game and emulators and there's always something borked up when I go to play it. This game was so ahead of it's time.

  • I have like three copies of this game and emulators and there's always something borked up when I go to play it.

  • playing that game was awesome. we were kids we had fun and we enjoyed that rare star wars stuff. today its all´to much

  • wish I could get this game again and have it work on my up to date computer

  • @DaneFalco youcan dosbox + xwingcdset

  • played this game for so many years, last good flight simulator was x_wing alliance the rest is rubbish.

  • I had a more "modern" version of this game i think. I remember it was on PC and you used a joystick. It was actually very fun.

  • @lluvank the Guy who programmed my childhood is Burning in hell!

  • FM midi music :-/ get a wavetable sound card.

  • THE GUY WHO PROGRAMMED THIS IS BURNING IN HELL!!!!

  • @lluvank why?

  • @boardernut ?? it sucks

  • 1:06

    Is that guy alright?

  • @HaloModder555 Kinda twitchy, lol

  • YOU MUST REGISTER

  • @NorthernStar1982 I would do that over and over, I think I must have driven my old man up the wall :D

  • LOL "YOU MUST REGISTER!"

  • This game was farking awsome for its time. I wish they would remake it or someone at least make a game similar

  • Can you help? Im looking for a game that was like this, but had slightly better graphics (win95 era) and didnt have that menu screen where they talk to you. you just got text. And you could fly both rebels and imperial

  • @MB0016 X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter

It works almost flawlessly on Windows 7.

  • How can I make this game to work on my Windows 7 pc? I have the CD-ROM but cant play it.

  • @blackor237 download dosbox. read the instructions for mounting drives including CD drives. you have to mount your hard drive as well as the CD drive, for example:

    mount c C:\xwing [return]

mount e E:\ -t cdrom [return] or whatever drive letter your cd drive is

    then type E: [return]

    install [return]

after install go back to dosbox and type C: [return] then xwingcd [return] and enjoy!

  • @blackor237 You need an emulator like DOSbox.

If you don't want to emulate, you should get X-Wing Collector's Series or X-Wing Trilogy. However, those versions have graphical glitches on Windows 7.

  • Comment removed

  • Something's coming back to me... "PROJECT SHANTIPOLE HAS BEEN COMPRIMISED BY AN IMPERIAL SPY"

  • this game is great i play for years!! in my 486 . i burn my head playing this game .

the gameplay is exelent .forguet graphics at this era__

  • shit im out of AMMO... GOTTA Click HYPERDRIVE :D

man this game brings back memories!

  • how can i play this game on windows 7 or the tie fighter one

  • @MRMilade If you just want to play the game, you should pick up X-Wing Collector Series or X-Wing Trilogy for the PC. These contain remakes of X-Wing and TIE Fighter using the X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter engine. However, the colors will be messed up, especially on X-Wing and TIE Fighter doesn't work without Compatibility Mode and even then you need to switch it to 16-Bit color or the background will be yellow.

If you REALLY want the original, though, emulation is the only way.

  • @TyphlosionBlaze1 my xwing and tie fighter original cds work fine on dosbox

  • @0whatyousay0 DOSbox is an emulator, it isn't the actual DOS software.

  • @MRMilade download dosbox and read instructions for mounting drives it works with the original cds

  • I used to play this game with a mouse

A mouse and a table were wasted in the process.

  • Ok, this is a genre that needs a serious remake. The Star Wars flight sim.

AND NO THAT DOESNT MEAN LIKE ROGUE SQUADRON >.<

  • @DasMadHatter I agree. Rogue Squadron is shit compared to the X-Wing series.

  • @DasMadHatter

You should check out the Freeworlds: Tides of War game, then. It's attempting to do just that

  • @DasMadHatter Remind me what the market is for hardcore flight sims set in space again? Oh right, there's a nearly non-existent market. I also wish there was a remake but there aren't many (if any) companies that do any flight sims around anymore. It's a shame of the consolification of the games market.

  • @DasMadHatter Gotta get one thing straight: X-wing was the flight sim, Rogue Squadron was the arcade shooter. Everyone seems to think RS was another X-wing.

No. RS was the simplified version for the wussies too scared to handle a *real* X-wing.

  • @DasMadHatter

That and also I love to see a Star Wars SHMUP in the same style as raiden fighters, raptor, and the strikers series, that would also be badass!!

  • @DasMadHatter rogue squadron 1 n 2 were awesome tho

  • For its time looks awesome, but god i hate the Star Wars universe. Every time i hear about Star Wars i want to eat a baby. A childish series that doesn't want to admit it.

  • @Faralite it wasnt childish before episode 1,2, and 3 came out. those 3 prequels effectively ruined the entire star wars universe for many people

  • Hey guys!! Can anyone tell me why neither my joystick nor my sound work for this game? I'm running it on XP, but everyone else seems to have no problem with it. Thanks, guys!!

  • @slpkntmggt06 If you are using the original DOS CDROM you need DOSBOX. Google it

  • Those were the games that I grew up on Tie Fighter, Duke Nukem, Doom, Wolfenstein, Heretic, Hexen, Descent, Quest for Glory 4, Kings Quest VI, Wing Commander 2, Warcraft 2, Sim City 2000, Police Quest 3, Leisure Suit Larry 5&6, Space Quest, Dark Forces, Freespace, Full Thottle, Alone in the Dark, Command & Conquer, Fallout, Grim Fandango, Gabriel Knight. Many great games in the 90s, but the games now just don't appeal to me. Not the same style or appreciation for art or maybe im just nostalgic

  • LOL YOU MUST REGISTER!!! lol that used to piss me off, now i miss this game so much, awesome game! damn youngins nowadays will never appreciate this, mid 90'sm this was the best game

  • This game looks amazingly good for it's time.

  • TIE FIGHTER was SOOO freakin AWESOME

  • This game, Dark Forces, Rebel Assault, starcraft, and Counterstrike have played a big role in my life. I'm married now and have a kid on the way and am still a gamer lol. Play sc2, tf2, cs still lol. Oh yeah Command and Conquer and red alert played a big role in that too.

  • @kvg44gbs ur just like me, except marry part.

  • This game, Dark Forces, Rebel Assault, starcraft, and Counterstrike has played a big role in my life. I'm married now and have a kid on the way and am still a gamer lol. Play sc2, tf2, cs still lol.

  • I'd be happy if someone managed to remake these missions using X-Wing Alliance's Game Engine.

  • I loved this game for the AMAZING action it was packing. Graphics were not perfect but the music was great although it did require an expensive sound card to play correctly (this video is based on low quality FM synthesis). In fact those Lucas Arts games had music tied to the script which is only possible through synthesis.

Most of all I liked it because of the memories of Star Wars. I was fortunate to play this game without first experiencing the new trilogy which fucked up these memories.

  • The first star wars game I played was Tie Fighter which was released a year after this game. Tie fighter improved on the game play of x-wing and you got to fight on the imperial side. I played tie fighter for hours and hours and have not seen a star wars game since that was as much fun. If you like these games then you will like the ace combat series on playstation because those are the games I started playing a few years after tie fighter got old.

  • Ugh i wish they ported this to modern machines…

  • Yup, I'm 36 now and this is still the best SW gameplay ever. Nothing has the detail like this game and I've yet to see metal awards like this game had... it made you feel like you were really important ;)

  • this game was amazing

  • The MIDI music cracks me up. Wow, what good memories though.

  • It's not the graphics, it's the gameplay.

  • @leftcoast67 so true. the most fun ive ever had with games had shit graphics

  • cuantos recuerdos!!!!!!

  • if they would made a new xwing game 2011

  • I want to see this game with high definition, photo-realistic graphics. :)

  • i had windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. i've tried to install the D-Fend Reloaded and it's not working.. it doesnt get into the game, but the setup is fine. please help to advice what should i do in order to play back this game!!?

  • graphics look pretty good for its time!!!

  • I always thought that guard sounded like Arnie....."Get to the Xwiiiing!!"

  • i missed the old midi sounds where xwing 95 cd collector doesnt have, anyone who can help me what can i do to have the old midi when playing? the music is more exciting.

  • sensacionales juegos de lucas en su primera epoca, falto de ello en estos momentos.

  • I wish they would bring this game back for the newer window versions like Vista and Win7. Make a collection edition called "Star Wars: Tie-Fighter Vs. X-Wing" bring both games into one package, then offering an online real time mission face off where you face real player vs player combat on the classic missions and hopefully have great new missions and heighten graphics all around.

  • i freakin loved this game! it's so sweet... just let that awesome MIDI music get your heart pumping. seriously, its pretty awesome for 1993 and just predates the unfortunate "era of ruining star wars forever".

  • GREAT GAME - I wish they would bring it back for Win 7...

  • i missed the digital sounds during action and music. each time u kill the enemy there's sound like an award of killing. and i like the picture of pilot.. where i can get this game back with digital sounds of the Dos version? i hate the collecter's edition where it used the music from the CD. it has no excitement! u get what i mean? it's about sound!

  • You MUST register!

  • Fantastic game.

  • i used to have this game. that was fun. i was up to the last level. never got to finish it.

  • google steam. its a game program that you can buy and download. They sell it on steam, and alot of other old star wars.

  • I miss this game so much!!! I can still recall the time that you need 5.25" floppy disks for game installation. This game is classic!

Is it possible to play this on windows XP?

  • @csray0201 Nah. You need to enable DOS EMS to play this game if i remember. I'll have to whip out my CD and play it on VPC!!! :)

  • shit game

  • For a game this old, the production values are amazing.

  • Some of those ships look like Star Federation shuttles.

  • I remember my dad bought me this game and a joystick years and years ago, and the joystick was too sensitive to play with and made the game unplayable (due to the aim going everywhere on the screen). When I told my dad, he said it's supposed to be like that and that I needed to practise :/

  • After TOR we want you to make new X-Wing, LucasArts!

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this mission maddeningly hard. You really, really felt like you'd accomplished something when you finally beat this one.

  • great game amazing graphics for the time n music. overall fucking amazing y are new games shit and have gigatera byte of data, this has no memory but kicks ass

  • 1:07 My favorite mission ever!

  • Know anybody how run this game on XP?? I like it I paly it as little child :)

  • @Vartrex5

if you still have the floppy disc you can download dosbox.

it's a free program that emulates dos perfectly.

  • @mariodude89 HEy thank you man I love you!!

  • I love this game I play it as little kid :)

  • Wow, i miss this game, a modern remake of this game will be unreal, so much potential

  • I can't decide if the music was the best part or the worst part!

  • Guys, one Question. I finished all tours of duty ans so on. But i have one fu+++ng enormous problem! When i play bwing tour of duty, i cant get to the third mission. When you evacuate the bwings, the thugs come in, but the bwings never jump to hyperspace. The corvette is doing its job, but never the bwings. Has anyone the same problem? I read its a bug. Hm, maybe someone has solved the prob. If so, please help!!!

Must finish all tours, before i get old and die:)

  • lol that guy is still welding in the launch bay 2:23

  • argh I use to hate A-Wings when I played the evil version Tie Fighter :P

  • This was awesome for a 1993 game. Remember Doom 1 had not even came out, so '3D' graphics were still something technically incredible.

  • Ahh so many memories.. one of my favourite games of all time!

  • Ah, playing this in the dark with a decent sound card...escorting a Mon Cal cruiser to safety knowing the empire could pounce any moment. Wonderful times!

  • My favorite game of all times, an instant classic. if you haven't played it yet, i feel bad for you

  • looking back at it, it looks like this game was years ahead of its time visually and technicly... lets revamp this game!!

  • Please LucasArts, do it again!!!

  • Still playing this game. One of the best ever

  • This was the best flight sim ever

  • YOU ARE MUST REGISTAR.*points rifle at you* It would be awesome if they remade this game, combined it with Star Wars Tie Fighter and at the main menu you can choose which side you would like to be on(like lego star wars did with the complete saga), and upgraded graphics.

  • i fucking miss this game

  • Best game ever after Goldeneye

  • The early 90's will always be a part of me. I get so sad when I see how much things have changed.

  • Wow i played this like a million times when i was young. This game was so good and addicting at the time. Are there any sequels??

  • great post!!!

  • does anyone know where I can still buy a joystick that would work with these older systems? I still have the working computer and game, but my joystick for that computer broke years ago.

  • aaaaaah,i loved this game, and tie fighter too!!it was a revelation to every starwars fan!!i pray to george lucas to authorize a rermake of this games!!!!

sasly,x-wing alliance wont run on new systems...:(

  • @bossinator666 Actually it will. I got it to run on my win7 64 bit system not too long ago. I can't remember where i found the fix. but i googled searched it for about an hour before i found the fix.

  • @Keihryon

    thx^^

  • I have the 1998 verson of this game! I still play with it! It is one of the best Star Wars Dog Fighting games, they should do a remake of this game.

  • this is so fucking old #lol i like

  • Whatever you do, don't fly straight! lol Death star run was fun even though easy. A few hard missions on here, not many. Mostly the ones you had to protect something.

  • If memory serves, if you hit i it changes your display to a targeting crosshair that displays where you target is, making it much easier to target things at a distance.

  • Sad, I can remember this mission nearly 20 years later but I cant remember where I put my keys 5 minutes ago.

  • @izvn Lol! I'm in that boat too. I loved this mission. I also vaguely remember a bonus mission with ships named Renhoek, and Stimpson J'Kat. Seriously, why do I remember that?

  • @izvn isnt it the truth?

  • @izvn lol same this lvl is old school memories for me

  • @izvn totally agree, i remember this mission too, 3 squadrons of different wings going at it, used to go after the star destroyer, all engine power for like 6 minutes lol took it down one time, o man, i miss this game

  • Lol...did the graphics really look like that, in my mind i remember it being so much better. Nonetheless, just amazing gameplay...a remake would be so sweet.

  • @luyendao i was thinking the same thing, but i guess when ur used to newer games old games just dont cut it anymore even tho i would still rock the shit outta this game :P

  • Oh geez...

  • This was my favorite game since I first played it in a computer store in the mall in 1992

  • 12 rebel fighters against at least 100 imperial ships, thats some hardcore odds

  • Man, i never sat at just 50 klicks on the speed dial. When i used to play this game i was a mad man on the energy management, but speed was always paramount for me.

  • Ah the memories...

  • you knew you were playing a SW game when a star destroyer entered the sector and DUM DUM DUM DUM DE DUMM DUM DE DUMMMMMM!

LucasArts listen remake this game for ps3 and 360 please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no rogue squadron stuff proper cockpit simulation this or TIE FIGHTER

  • @NorthernStar1982 Yes, i've never seen a game able to better match up the in-game score with what was going on in the mission so slickly as these games. It was incredible, and the toons were great. When reinforcements jumped into the system, your heart would SWELL with that music!

  • @NorthernStar1982 They never will. Those games would be too complicated for modern console gamers. If you think you could handle them, you should get a PC!

  • @NorthernStar1982 Yes this is what i need from the collectors series!

  • @NorthernStar1982 Oh, yea, and get this wanderful changing-in-enviornment music INTACT!

A Rant comming, dude. This is the legend that I used to play to death back in the 90s.

This is PC gaming in the golden years, along with Tie Fighter, Duke Nukem, Doom, Heretic, and Hexen.

Guess, for now, I have to use DosBox, and hope my X-Wing CD still works.

  • This brings me to the time of 256 color, 4mb ram, soundblaster pro, thrustmaster joystick and (proper) game manuals. We had the much sleeker, modern day 3.5"s floppies in hard plastic with write protection BUILT into them! None of those fancy cd-roms, though (I wonder if someday they'd make the laser go blue...I like blue). Anyway, the best thing was I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY BILLS!!!

  • this music doesn't sound right..I remember the music playing during combat actually being music from the movie

  • Comment removed

  • @ithehairyjedi

That's because you had the new & updated "Collector's CD-ROM". Some of us first played it as a DOS-based game (installed with good old floppy discs). The original DOS game had a Midi-file soundtrack. :-)

  • @NathanDahlin

I was one of those.. what a great sim, eh?

  • This Game was awesome! It's just such a pity it needs EMS Memory to run.....Still I think it would make an excellent comeback if Lucasarts would re-make it.
