Ya know, a year ago i would've listened and gone "Oh shit Marcus has the best tone ever", but now i understand you have to realize the personality in each player to catch the tone each uses.
Legends. Oh yeah one more thing, for those of you who feel that Stanley Clarke got outshined, understand that he made the conscious decision to let Marcus and Victor play the lower register parts of the interview. If you really want to know why many of us consider Mr Clarke to be the greatest bassists of all time, pick up the following three albums in this order, School Days, Return To Forever's No Mystery and Toys Of Men. Trust me, no one has more range than Stanley Clarke
I always found it ironic that many African American bassists gravitated to Stanley Clarke considering how much of a egghead/geek he seems to be. On the other hand many non-Black bassists gravitate to Jaco, whose pedigree is more in the lineage of 60s Soul and R&B and whose Florida upbringing was more 'hood'. Trippy how the color bar works...
I just saw Victor at Downers Grove North High school with Muriel Anderson. They were incredible. Victor did a 20 minute solo, and just blew the walls down with talent. I think Stanley is still my favorite though.
I watched SMV live and before that I was never really into Stanley Clarke. Sure I respected him; school days and all that but hey growing up with Marcus and later Wooten I just never went back to his stuff. Live; Marcus had the best tone ever it was everything you think it would be, Wooten did all of his signature moves but his new Hartke rig let him down tone wise, Stanley Clarke however, was incredible the musicianship on display really humbled the other two in my opinion. Just watch him live.
how many years ago was it that nobody wanted to even think about a black guy playing music and now here are all three of the best bassists alive and they are all black. Fuck yeah, keep on rockin!
GAH! There's more then one?! I might have a heart attack! They were all good but Miller and the guy on the opposite side killed it! I didn't favor the mid guy. Either way they are all good.
@SirFong1 :) its oké to have youre favourites, but that 'mid guy' happens to be stanley clarke and is the godfather of electric bass. Its the one where miller and wooten got their skills from. Just google some stanley clarke, he's at the front of modern electric bass for 40 years now;)
@SirFong1 Well, I don't really fancy listening to Stanley, either. I also think in my honest opinion that Vic and Marcus are more interesting in their playing style. But Stanley is awesome, too. He's the inspiration to Vic's generation of bass players.
@SirFong1 could it be because he's not utilizing the lower end like you're used to hearing?? marcus and vic at times have that down so he fills up the other parts of the basstrum
No, it aint no dvd , it was a web-broadcast thru a webcam, summer 2008. I have 2 more songs and some more interview stuff from this session, and thats it.

They are all the epitome of cool. And at around 6:39 Stanley laughs like Darth Vader. Even cooler.
