Thanks for understanding my point of view. Yes, indeed I was only comparing the similarities of the "Lebanese belly dancing" and the traditional dance of the "Rapanuis."
I invite you and everyone else who watch this video to my (youtube channel) -- I have favorited there more than 550 videos about the descendants of the Phoenicians in Lebanon (Middle East) as well as their culture, food, and history just by clicking on my (youtube screen-name) -- Enjoy! :)
@PhoenicianGoddess ....If you watch the dances from Tahiti and the Cook Islands in the South Pacific, you will see that they are very similar because we polynesians all came from the same place. The Middle East belly dancing is different.
But you never claim that the connection was actually there. So, thanks for your comment because know I want to take a second look at that Lebanese belly dancing and entertain your idea. On a lighter note, it would be great to one day have a fun gathering of Lebanese belly dancers and Rapa Nuis where they challenge each other to the dance floor.
At a personal level, regardless of all the evidence out there, I think humans have been very movile for must of their history. There so many things we don't know about our ancestors and where they have been. With a bit of caution I entertaing your idea, but only within the realm of my personal views. By the way, I don't think you are a fool for making that connection. Reading your posting, you are only stating as to the similarities and posibilities.
Having said that, none of us were here back in those days when they began to dance in such manner. So....who knows? Maybe the Phoenicians made it that far in their journeis. But, according to all the archeological and anthropological evidence that we have, the connection is not there. On the other hand, there are those that have tried to make the connection between Phoenicians and the native people of the Americas. Specially Mexico. Again, did that actually happen? We don't know.
By looking at the video, one could see what you are saying about the similarities between Lebanese and Rapa Nui dancing. But I would be more inclined to say that the similaries are coinsidential. Guille87 is on target as to the account of where the Rapa Nui came from. But you know, Hips are for moving and the fact that there is a similarity between them does not necessarily make the connection between Polynesians and Phoenicians.
I know for a fact that the "Belly Dancing" of the Middle East is very similar to the traditional dance of the RapaNui's as well as the traditional dance of Tahiti and RaroTonga.
Filipinos like yourself don't know anything about the culture of the Polynesians because your traditional dance is not even close to the RapaNui's or the Tahitians.
That's my take on the RapaNui traditional dance; it is very similar to the "Belly Dancing" of the Middle East and particularly Lebanon!
eeh no you fool. Rapa Nuians came from Tahiti Nui, and are apart of the austronesian stock, wich consists of Malagasay (Madagascar), whole south east asia, and Polynesia. The austronesians came from Taiwan and settled all the islands from there to Rapa Nui! And don't compare Tahitian dance, wich this is clearly taken from, with middle easterns tyle! there's NO similarities what so ever. just b'cuz they sway their hips doesn't mean it derived from belly dancing, where you use your stomac!
Realmente , cuando los vi kede maravillada ... ojala volver denuevo a las isla ... ya seria la 4ta vez k estoy alla , me enamore de su isla ... mucha paz se despide

BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! :)
Does anybody know if the people of "EASTER ISLAND" are descendants of ancient explorers/colonizers from Lebanon known as the "PHOENICIANS."
I see similarities between the traditional dance of the "EASTER ISLANDERS" and the traditional dance of the Lebanese.
Thanks so much for sharing this very interesting video! :)
