@danpt2000 Gold increases in dollars because dollars decrease in purchasing power due to an increase in money supply. Inflation generally takes 6 months to 2 years for the full impact of it to be felt by consumers. It also helps for a bit that recessions are deflationary environments. In the next 2 years prices could almost double.

I think he means coins or bars. The smallest form you can get it in at a reasonable cost is the best recommendation. Small pieces will be easier to barter.
