@SpidermanRun not a bad notch.this is how its done.if any of you guys had a clue you would know that the handle on a chainsaw is designed to cut notches from 70 to 90 degrees.thats why its bent that way.you guys sitting at home dont even know chainsaws have sights on them.lol.if he did it right.he would have been able to make his back cut, shut his saw off and walk away before tree fell over.thats control...those guys on axmen that still have there saw stuck in tree while its falling are a joke.
you guys are awfully critical, hes not a fucking logger so he doesn't need to cut on his knees, i teach pco and oco for oshwa as well as isa iv seen a lot worse from guys that have been doing this for 30 years
a very poor notch, beginning too far up - you're just about ripping and it's totally unnecessary. We used to go with about a 30° notch for a small, healthy tree like that, but current policy is a 90° which gives control to the ground (theoretically)
The 90° is made with a 45° face cut, as you attempted (yours is more like 75°) and another 45° brought up from the bottom - a notch we have always used for snags. I would appreciate if you removed the 'Davey Tree' from your title.
@wentwirth what your describe is a birds beak or V notch and its used for felling trees down hill, so before you run your mouth on a guy that's only been doing this for a year check your shit
Notch and face cut are the same altho they all comes in diffenent forms. Like the one you just made its call conventional notch or face. Open face in when you cut angle from the top and angle from the bottom...two cut must meet.
thats not an open face notch, its a swedish notch an open face should be 70 degrees on the face with the back cut directly at the apex of the notch. You Davey clowns are the reason why tree industry has such a high mortality rate.
Thats one of the worst face cuts ive ever seen. Thats not a open face cut at all., Why dont you show the tree fall is it because it did not go were u wanted it? Davey should fire your puck ass for making this video u give all us davey employees a bad name.
I would like to say that in the area i cut the oak at, there are other oaks like it but I would guess in there 80 and up in age ok. good work on vid.. Keep cutting .
there was nothing wrong with the notch yeah its a steep angle, but who cares?
