thats weird, i think they should have caught that he was leeking oil pretty quick, i mean, all that smoke, probley ment he blew his motor, oil on the track is like the first thing they should look for and go yellow the second the see the oil...

I've seen it more that once @this track where the flagman didn't drop the yellow until it was too late.
