Very funny and he is actually speaking portuguese (although with a terrible accent), which for us who understand him makes it even funnier! Basically he is asking for his clothes to be washed and ironed straight away, when will they be ready cause he needs them today! The celebrations are epic and the typical "manguito" is very portuguese, but unfortunatelly rarer nowadays. Just one remark: papa bendi isn´t portuguese, hardly any words end with an "i" in our language. Great work Coogan!!!
Really really funny. There's one other thing that's quite funny, that Steve Coogan slammed Top Gear's people for mocking mexicans and now he also makes humour with stereotypes... even though it was really good humour, even a portuguese guy like me can see that.
Caught the portuguese speaking english accent perfectly, though when he was speaking portuguese it was a bit hard to understand even for me, who is portuguese, but I guess it's "Quero que esta roupa, esta roupa seja, limpa passada a ferro, a ferro passada".
So do I. In terms of looks he just missed two clichés: the thick golden bracelet and the huge golden ring on the little finger (plus the oversized nail...lol).
At the time (and still nowadays) this was a common sight in concerts performed among portuguese communities gatherings abroad.
Hilarious. Love it! Im also looking for the interview he had (as Ferrino) with Peter Baynham, that was also about 12 years ago but impossible to find.
Genius. I loved Toni Ferrino...only second to Alan Partridge. Big shame the character didn't quite make it big. I had the cd as well...loved it. It got nicked and is now deleted :-(
I agree. I recall accidentally recording a ferrino show back in '97 when I was 15 and I found it hilarious. Seen all of his other characters and just recently youtubed ferrino and he beats all of them
Most of Europe puts forward a song and then about twenty of these songs are put forward into the Eurovision Song Contest finals where all of Europe votes on the one they like best. Probably the highlight of my year. n.n Next year, Russia are hosting it.
this is funny, right... but the american people never get it right... some think we talk brazillian portuguese... some think we speak spanish. Our language is portuguese. Portugal's portuguese
Americans don't even know what the Eurovision song contest is. This is Mr Steve Coogan from the UK and he is an absolutely brilliant comedian. Way ahead of his time here... Borat anyone?
I am from Portugal and i found Steve Coogan absolutely hilarious in this clip. fantastic the way he picked up 2 portuguese entries in the ESC from 1980 and 1982 and created this extremelly funny sketch. For some of the portuguse knobs in here: of course he doesn't sings portuguese in the song, but have you ever heard any one in portugal trying to do a perfect english impersonation? no.
i think this was in 1997. he does not sound very portuguse, but for every foreign, portuguese is much harder to learn and to impersonate than spanish or even the Brazillian accent
this was recorded in 1997. they are trying to spoofing the lyrics from the 1980 entry and the choreograpy from 1982. see both "portugal 1980" and "portugal 1982" entries and pay attention to the lyrics, choreography and back singers. I am from Portugal and i think this Sketch is Hilarious
