  • There is no analogy between musical harmony and ethereal harmony in my view a celestial presence is there for both...they are one in the same and grasps my soul like a beacon of light.

    Peace out!!!!

  • Oh my word! Other than Chanticleer, this is the best version of this piece that I have ever heard. Nice choice of the room for its acoustic value. It sounds like an edited recording. Near perfection, and beautiful singing, gentlemen.

  • As mentioned, Absolutely Breathtaking. Each section is evenly matched in tone and depth. The blend of voices is terrific. Ive been wishing to sing this in a group like yours. Just Awesome!

  • This group has enriched my life tremendously!!! Thanks so much and God Bless you Mr. Brooks.

  • You are fabulous. Why don't we know about you? I found this accidentally --- and a happy accident it was!

  • YES

  • beautiful

  • wow...just, wow! + Ave Maria! XD (best rendition ever)

  • Damn Brooks, this really is amazing... and 40000 views? I think this honestly beats the chanticleer version

  • @OneWhoIsKnown And each view is very well deserved!

  • i lov u guys! beautiful voices =)

  • so fucking perfect

  • I have to spread the word about you guys, how can I get a CD? I simply can not believe how beautiful this sounds......

  • I have to spread the word about you guys, how can I get a CD?

  • Wow. Soul-stirring.

  • just a curious question

which part did you double up on for this?

    it was really nice guys

  • Bass 2.

  • Spent a whole bunch of time on UTube listing to all the Biebls out there - This I think beats the Chanticleer version here as if this is a contest. My only complaint is that the room is a bit bright. The resonance and delay of a cathedral would be interesting. Wonderful blend of voices, great tempo. Great achievement. I know how hard it is to sustain that intensity over 5 minutes and wish I could have sung along.

  • @WJE37FCSM To be sure, this is an awesome performance. I like from 3:17 to the cadence where they did the crescendo. Nice. It led to my favorite part of the piece. Be careful saying that it beats Chanticleer though. I love the ending on this vid. These guys nailed it.

  • Nice going guys. Been digging around the different versions the Biebl and you're chasing perfection. Will be looking for more of your stuff.

  • nice voice =)

  • Fantastic tuning and phrasing!

  • AMAZING! It is perfect. Most beautiful performance I've ever heard. Congratulations!

  • wow its so cool!!!

  • The C-7th harmonies at 0:42' 2:24 and 3:18 have that nice French Impressionist feel. Very nice. I hope to hear more from these guys.

  • Absolutely transcendent! Bravo, gentlemen.

  • i love the held out amennnnnn at the end!

  • WOW. I seriously had tiers coming down my face. I have song this piece several times I know how difficult it is to sing. YOU guys really did an awesome job!!!!!!! very very good...

  • WOW!!! Outstanding! You guys are amazing! And it's even more ridiculous that you sound so good with only eight voices! God has certainly blessed you with amazing talent, Keep it up!

  • This fills my heart with hope and love...

  • This is so amazing, I had to post it.

  • This is so amazing, I had to post it.

  • Wonderful!

  • Amazing.. very moving. You are a talented group!!!

  • Spell binding. Why doesn't this get air time instead of the really bad stuff I hear on radio daily. Get out onto the streets or subways or whatever and show what you have. Please.

  • beautiful simply beautiful no need for more words

  • You're great! Excellent voices, our sounds and clever interpratation. I was cryed, when I saw this film.

  • These guys are awesome! Who are they and where are they from?

  • sorry for my English:

I singing this song from Franz Biebl in a male choir too. But not so fantastic, wow...

i have tears in my eyes.

    Best whishes from Germany

  • Beautiful, balanced and very good quality of voices. Thank you so much for this interpretation.

  • Fantastic! This is totally beautiful!

  • This version of this group could definitely have gone professional. And there wouldn't even be that much refinement needed. Afterall, this is basically how Chanticleer and Cantus got their beginnings.

  • beautiful!!

  • Besides the original Chanticleer recording, this is the best quality rendition of Biebl's Ave Maria I've heard. All praise and glory to God, gentlemen.

  • 10 stars !!! goooooooooood!

  • YEssss!!!!! You guys are rediculous!!!! just beautiful.

  • You guys skipped my favorite solo :(

  • only at the solo though. =]

  • bamf

  • Awesome.

  • wow. you sound like chanticleer, i'm assuming you know who they are. if not youtube them and their version of this song. wow

  • We did this in the Seminary and it it still my favorite piece -- except for working on their diction, I think they did a fantastic job

  • Haha, so in other words. "Very well done, but you did everything wrong."

I thought it was fantastic, but then again my name isn't MUSICGENIUS0011.

  • No no not at all. He is giving very good critique, and considering they put the effort in putting this video on youtube it was hopefully because they wanted people to critique the performance and improve on it. I don't think many people on here post videos like this because they already do it perfect. otherwise they'd be touring the world. lol

  • I thoughroughly enjoyed listening to this. Possibly the most beautiful piece of music ever written.

  • yes!!

  • very charming sound.... ;o))

    beautiful!

  • The reverberation of the room sounds so cool.

  • nice

  • Agree with most above - this is competition on a Chanticleer level - well done!

  • Ever since I sang the SATB version of this in high school, Biebls' arrangement of ave maria has always been my favorite. Your voices blend so well. If you havent heard it already, you should listen to a recording of chanticleer performing this! Other than chanticleer this is the best TTBB performance of this I've EVER heard :)

  • My choir did this song in high school and it became that choir's signature song. I had the lead solo and we sang it to win the Western State's Choral Championship in 1993. Forever, the unmatched recording of this song was by Chanticleer, but these 8 young men knocked it out of the park. Their counter-tenor is extremely powerful. I would have liked to hear them sing the full version because the 2nd verse show can really showcase a choir's dynamic ability, but nonetheless spectacular!

  • I've said it before. I'll says it again. This just makes me weep. So beautiful.

  • 5/5 Perfect choir ...good bass:)

  • Okay...this makes me want to be there singing this with you guys! Amazing. No, they are not lip-synching to Chanticleer's recording either. Wow guys, there were several magical musical moments in this....even when there were some slight intonation issues, one seems to quickly forget it because of the great intonation and musicality almost immediately followed. One of the best I've ever heard of this song.

I hope you guys keep singing. Don't ever take this for granted.

  • Listen to 3:21.... HOW DO 8 GUYS MAKE THAT MUCH SOUND?!?!

  • simply because they're men

  • this is absolutely amazinggg..

all of your videos are breath taking!

i get gooosebumps all the time! <3

  • Amazing. At first I thought you were a bunch of jerks who video taped yourselves standing in a room and then dubbed Chanticleer's recording over.

  • Nice!!!

  • Absolutely stunning

  • wowowow. aside from a little tiny intonation issue somewhere in the middle, this is absolutely fantastic. I actually enjoy your blend a little better than chanticleers, and you guys didn't drop in pitch at all. simply amazing job!

  • I was thinking the same exact thoughts myself!

  • You guys are a gift to us all - pure and simple

  • Either way, you guys did a wonderful job. You deserve to be commended for your work.

  • You took me to heaven

  • Only one group who sings this better than you, and not by much: Chanticleer. You are heros.

  • Apart from Chanticleer's rendition, this is the best recording of this on YouTube. Great Job!

  • You guys do this incredible too well! I'm just a trumpet player, but I am a musician and I feel that the vocal repertoire is just as important as the Haydn concerto. Music is music! Thus in my musical youtube searches I have run across amazing songs/recordings/groups and everything I have heard so far from you guys is very entertaining to me. But I'm just a trumpet player!

Wish I could be part of a group like this. Very nice guys!!!

  • This is absolutely awesome.

  • Best recording of this on youtube I have found.

One of my favourite pieces and brings back fond memories

  • Thank you so so much, words can not express. . .

  • Lovely. Thank you.

  • god i love it when you guys sing this.

I haven't listened to this video in months and today it just popped back into my head. ;D

  • My co-ed a cappella group sang this. Sick nasty. :D

  • wow, really good man. sounds awesome as an octet too. and the acoustics were great. where are you guys out of?

  • WoW! very very good!!!!

    BRAVISSIMI!

  • I couldn't hear the overtones until I turned the volume WAY up, but they made an already gorgeous performance better. Fantastic job, keep up the good work.

  • this is just beautiful, I was moved to tears .........i hope you always have a passion for the gift you share....god bless you

  • This is a taste of heaven! It's the most beautiful song I've ever heard in my life!!

  • I bet the angels in heaven don't sound that good. Beautiful, it brings tears to my eyes.

  • THAT is the BEST "Ave" I've ever heard! Even [hard for me to say] better than MIchigan Men's Glee Club.

When is your next Great Lakes Area Concert? I'm comming!

  • AMAZING!!! overtones popping all over truly beautiful!!

  • Wow.

  • Wonderful performance, great diction, felt well. you do a fine, fine job of conveying the message of the piece, one of ultimate adoration. (make sure that the word "te" is pronounced correctly; it should almost be a "ti" in latin, very closed) you are a wonderful, powerful, and skilled group. i hope you go far.

  • I agree 100% with your assessment of these young mens' performance. But I can't agree with your suggestion on the pronunciation of "te." There are various ways of pronouncing Latin but I think Ecclesiastical pronunciation would be the right one in context. These guys got it right by singing it as "tay."

  • danger, in latin (an extremely closed language overall) the word is eesentially pronounced "ti"

  • Well good luck finding a choir in the world that pronounces it that way. 'ticum' would just sound weird. There are at least two generally used 'systems' of pronouncing Latin, so the fact that Latin is semantically 'closed' isn't really relevant here.

  • I'm not saying it sounds the best, i'm saying that the ticum pronunciation is the most authentic.

  • ged424, we can certainly agree that this is a wonderful performance.

But I am still wondering, 'authentic' compared to what? We really don't know how Latin was pronounced by the Romans, and in all likelihood, it was pronounced different ways in different places at different times. The Biebl is a piece of eccelsiatical Latin and it ought to be pronounced in that way, where it is most definitely pronounced 'tay.'

  • If there's one way it should NOT be pronounced, it's tay. dipthongs have no place in this type of singing.

  • beautiful...

  • Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
  • Ave Maria Gratia plena Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et benedictus fructus ventris Tui, Jesus Sancta Maria Mater Dei Ora pro nobis peccatoribus Nunc et in hora mortis nostrae Amen.
  • Careful...

  • como me hace falta esto ....

  • When does the next CD come out?

  • you guys really are amazing. i miss singing so much. it's groups like yours that keep me wanting to find a men's group or perhaps gather up some like-minded people and just sing. men's a capella is always so beautiful.

  • I am in awe, gentlemen. I wish I had something intelligent to say and contribute. I am moved and speechless and inspired. Perhaps one song performance cannot move one who's been spiritually dormant as I have, but this one came close. Thank you in a way I can't explain.

  • Every time I hear this, I just get chills. It brings tears to my eyes, and it just thrills my soul. Such glorious singing, such tight harmony.

For Biebl, my only quibble would be the vibrato in the voices. This music calls for more straightness of tone, but otherwise, this is just glorious, professional level work. Just beautiful!

  • Compares very favorably with Chanticleers version

  • Now that is how singing should be done!!!

    AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • Incredible.

And for some reason the tenor soloist reminds me of Pippin from Lord of the Rings. That's awesome!

  • wow

  • You guys are wonderful! I like you better than Chanticleer. I love the way you just stand there in your every day clothes and this gorgeous sound comes forth. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!

  • i just got the biggest chills listening to this. absolutely gorgeous!! bravo!

  • I see no reason this group couldn't be turned into a professional ensemble. This is how Cantus got its beginning. The sound here is sublime!

  • I love this avemaria ... Well done guys !

  • Simply wonderful men! The men in my show choir(there are 8 of us as well) are learning this piece and I was just wondering, how did y'all split up the parts?

  • Good job, boys. Tenor 1 soloist: you the man.

  • Very, very nice. We're doing Ave Maria this semester and I hope that it can turn out this well. Thanks for posting the video.

  • never mind on the last comment. it seems that other groups including chanticleer have a hint of that 2nd in the last chord. or maybe you guys and chanticleer produce the same overtones.

  • was there an overtone at the end? i heard a 2nd in the last chord. whether it was a wrong note or an overtone i liked it. overall great job.

  • i love hearing this song in a room with great acoustics

  • WOW. This is amazing.

    You guys are fantastic.

  • What's up with that last commenter? Nothing is perfect, but you guys are absolutely AMAZING. Yes, Chanticleer set the bar, but this performance from non-pros is the best I've heard all night from perusing this piece. You guys did an absolutely amazing job, and I'm no dummy... Degree in classical composition from UCLA. In my opinion, you nailed it! Look forward to seeing the rest of your works. Amazing job!

  • Wonderful! Thanks guys. May you live by the words!

    God bless, Fr. Amaro

  • This knocked my balls for a loop. Yikes. It ain't Chantiqueer (yet), but it's gettin' on up there. Just gorgeous.

There are things that turned me off, such as "San' tuh' muh' ree'... uh' at 4:08 (Stomp' stomp' stomp' stomp'...stomp'), and it drags in other places, but when it gets this close to gold, that's when you start nitpicking - not when there's no hope at all.

I'd just suggest thinking lyrically as much as possible and getting someone to conduct that feel when practicing.

  • Very nice. Am I hearing things, or is this a half-step up (D-flat as opposed to C?)

The tenor solo is gorgeous (the "Et verbum caro factum est"). Do you usually skip the one before it ("Maria dixit, ecce ancila domini")

  • Bravo. I sang this piece years ago when I went to districts (I guess that would be the easiest thing to call it). It came out nice for us, but I'm always impressed by smaller groups, and I love it when they can achieve this kind of sound. It's been a long time since I've heard a smaller group like this, and you need to keep up the good work.

Also, thanks for letting me hear that song again. It had been a while, and I had forgotten the pure beauty of it. Thanks.

  • Great work guys, we are reheasing this peace (16 mixed voices) and you are a real inspiration. Greetings from the Netherlands!

    Ilbeau

  • must........have........this.....music!!!

  • Exquisite performance gentlemen. I've heard many recordings of this piece, but your tone and color really surpass the others. Your pace was wonderful, as many will take it too fast. My only suggestion to you is to fine-tune the balance between parts and between choirs 1 & 2 (it is commonly difficult to gauge balance without a director). Again, bravo, beautiful performance!!

  • This is a fine rendition of this piece, but on par with Chanticleer......? Come on!!

  • just because chanticleer has mastered this piece it doesnt mean nobody else can sing it.

  • the baritone is excellent

  • hahahaha. he is my new choir teacher. we learned he got hired after his uncle in the last week of school last year. im excited. hes amazin.

  • So far, next to Chanticleer, this has been the best group to sing this piece that I've heard...keep singin' fellas, and never forget the gift you've been given.

  • Brilliant...Etherial...Stunning...

Only a few of the words I can use to describe this video.

Brilliant work men; keep it up.

  • Wonderful!

  • mmm! perfectly coordinated balance!

your performance was beautiful without being too reminiscent of chanticleer

i'm going to favorite this video

  • Ave Maria!

  • Ave Maria!

  • this rendition was absolutely stunning! you chose an excellent room to record in and that only enhanced the already balanced, and beautiful harmonies. the sound was superb, the blend was beautiful, phrasing immaculate, artistry amazing! the unison sound and the "one-ness" of the voices was on the level of Chanticleer. Great Job!!!

  • Oh my god you guys are amazing! Your performance comes very close to the Chanticleer performance of it; you have great resonance and blending!! I wish I'd heard it live!

  • How come there are only EIGHT fo you?? O.o

That was one of the best versions of this piece I´ve EVER heard. Amazing...

    Congrats from Brazil!

  • Béatitudes et profondeur, bonne route

    Frère olivier omi+

  • you guys are fantastic....I almost forgot to breath as I was listening to this wonderful piece....definitely breathtaking

  • amazing

    absolutely beautiful

  • Absolutely breathtaking. You guys are great!

The choir sang this song at our wedding.

  • Very well done. I've sung this piece myself and there is nothing else that I've sung that has beat the sound that you get out of a mens ensemble that sings this song. Keep singing!

  • Does anyone knows where i can find this piece music scores ??? i have looked for it every where and still could not find it... any body could recomend a web site to obtain the free music scores for this piece???

  • Really good. Your breath control is great - this is a hard piece to sing with a 40 piece group, so your ability to carry the sound with so few members is admirable.

  • You guys are simply awesome! Beautiful, professional sound, consummate vocal skills. Congratulations! God Bless you.

  • Moving, delightful, polished...fabulous. I like this as much as the Chanticleer performance. Keep singing!

  • The Angelus.. Beautiful!

  • i would pay hundreds of dollars to see you guys live. hundreds of dollars each. CD?! Tour?!

  • very well done. the soloist didnt sound like he was connected to the music though

  • good blend of voice, beautiful and sacred composition from Frans Biebl... love it!

  • it's so hard to stay in tune for this song but you guys are great! Thumbs up!

  • Thumbz up! Great job you guys! Biebls would be so proud...
