I always thought the reason capcom hesitated was because of the legel problems of bringing a japanese game about streetfighting school children to america being immense. remember, it was a different time, before japan got the respect it deserved. I mean hell, people STILL say anime is brainwashing. stupid throwbacks.

Capcom gave me a good laugh with Roy. Seeing as how he is the only American male in Rival Schools, it makes perfect sense that his moves would be inspired by 2 of the most famous American fighting game characters of all time, Ken Masters and Terry Bogard. Tho I must admit after seeing Roy in action, Capcom ripping off SNK instead of the other way around was actually pretty hilarious and awesome. (Die hard Capcom AND SNK fan here, so let's proactively stop the hate before it starts)

TBH, these games NEED the advantage of present day graphic acceleration. As good as these games are, imagine how much better these games would be with much smoother polygons? (Face it, these guys may kick ass, but you could grate cheese on their faces)

And as strongly as i argue that Capcom needs to revive Tech Romancer (which is insulting to not have been done yet, considering the game's strong anime roots, despite the fact that Capcom would put out Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, yet ignore this game), Rival Schools needs a revival too. Street Fighter obviously ain't going nowhere, but let's see Capcom revive their less well known fighters as well. How about Tech Romancer and Rival Schools sequels on PS3 and 360 (or at least PSN and XBLA)?

I remember when i first heard about this game i was so amped for it. But then i discovered not a single arcade had it. And even worse, i only got a chance to actually play it once, on a display PlayStation in a FuncoLand, for like 10 or 15 minutes. But thanks to my PlayStation emulator, now i get to play this game as much as i want for free. Years of anger and disappointed finally resolved in the rime it takes to perform a few downloads. And this game was well worth the wait.

@ThePhantom2K9 haha while it's easy to make a Batsu/Ryu comparison, the TRUE Ryu clone in this game is actually Hideo. He does nearly all of Ryu's moves post SFA3, in nearly the exact same fashion. He not only performs move clones of the Hadoken, Shoryuken, and Hurricane Kick, but also the Shinkuu Hadoken and Shin Shoryuken. He also performs a clone move of Akuma's Tenma Gou Zankuu and can also perform an upward directed Hadoken clone (foreshadowing of Gouken in SF4).

Also there are some problems mostly related to a couple voice actors and vocal songs in Rival Schools that keep the games from being compiled too.

And non-virgin copies of this game let alone new sealed would compete for ridiculously high prices online. Same as the case with Lagoon for the Super Nintendo why nobody plays. The traditional logic of trading is that a game that is popular or recently used to be it would command a lot, as opposed to a game that is neither. However, with online technologies the new age logic is anything but. And that also applies to games for dead 8-bit systems that cost the price of a PlayStation system.

#1 - People are problem-making, irrational and are overridden by useless sentimental theorems.

#2 - As opposed to traditional stores it seems that ebay and other such sites are but havens and cesspools for queers, misfits and otakus.

@SeventhSun To me the Rival Schools series had so much potential to be a capcom franchise. I think why the series never went anywhere was because it was too japanese. Though the game was a success back in 98, too bad the sequel never was released on the ps2 or the ps1.

That and Capcom kinda hesitated to bring the game over here in the first place, to the point where the pictures of the game on the back of the box are in Japanese (not to mention all the other extra stuff cut out 'cause of time constraints and because they thought American gamers wouldn't care about it). Same thing happened with Project Justice except that was worse off, with hardly any advertisement and a meager amount of copies shipped.

i agree,but i think Rival Schools would be MUCH more popular nowadays.since anime is more popular in America then ever before and games like Rival School would sell more these days,i wish there was a new game coming in this series or if Capcom would re-release the games for PS2 or something to give people a chance to play it.

Yeah, I don't own the PSX version anymore (actually, I do have the Evolution disc but it's broken :( ) but I do own the Dreamcast sequel, Project Justice.

I also had the other PSX Rival Schools game, Seishun Nikki 2 at one point, which was a fun game.

Yeah, a lot of new games are full of those types of people. Apparently Japan likes their pretty-boys now 'cause they're in EVERYTHING. And none of them have any personality. It's all "kill" and "brood" and "more killing" and "more brooding."

And American characters these days basically are just "kill" and "speak complicatedly to make yourself appear smart." lol

Gimme the good characters and games back.
