Wow this man takes his music WAY to seriously! That or its a show... A song this advanced would require a lot of practice and you would think that after hours of playing this over and over some of the excitement would have worn off by now!
@TheGr8scott if you ever hear him live in concert you'll understand that the ultimate goal for every piece he plays is a sense of euphoria. he's amazing.
from Jose', the Hermeterec........This performance almost tore my heart out.....the absolute genius of it! Maestro Gavrylyuk is stupendous and I am of the opinion that Bach is the greatest composer who ever walked the face of the earth.
Not that this isn't still phenomenal buuuttt he totally flubs it at 00:52 !!!! It's subtle, but it's there. You know, i know it, he knows it, i bet his deaf grandmother knows it.
@1982mcmlxxxii Come sei severo!
The playing is beyond fantastic but i cant watch this without wanting to slap his face for totally overacting with a look of basking in his own farts on his face.......but then again if i could play my instrument as well as he plays his i'm sure i'd bask in it too
May be. But it really does not matter if he skipped little fragment. 98% of people, who will ever watch this video will never be able to play this composition with such quality and emotion.
I think that if his subtext shows on his face, at least it proves it to be genuine absorbment in the aim of the music. I find this an amazing and highly engaging performance.
There is a massive difference between a musician and just someone who can play an instrument really well. The difference is that musicians can inject feelings and their own personal touch to pieces of music, making the music more enjoyable. If this guy has to do the stanky leg while he plays piano, then by ALL means let him do his thang! :)
@EvgeniySPBGPU He acts in such a manner because he is playing one of the greatest pieces of music ever written and he can feel the genius in it resonating in his mind.
holy santa claus shit. this blew my mind as a newbie to classical. I'm absolutely amazed by the sheer emotion and drama in this. please, reccomend me more.
In my opinion the finest rendition of this piece is from the Baroque pipe organ from the church in Lezasjsk in Poland. The organ is an splendid art work and I wish I knew who the organist was. The acoustics give me goosepimples..
I am playing all the Busoni's transcription on Bach and I keep listening all the versions I can find. This is maybe the one I like less. I find irritating the lack of sound and all the changing of time in the Fuga which is supposed to be isorythmic, There is no fight between the voices...no passion!! Where is Bach's majesty??
bach is hard becauase both hands are playing something diffrent. have any of you tried to play bach? well you notice that the left hand and the right hands are playing 2 diffrent pieces. and it is EXTREMELY hard to do this. now look at this piece, you have octaves in one hand, chord in the other hand, doubles in one, octaves in the other, arpigeos in one, scales in the other. you literally need to divide your mind into 2 to be able to play these pieces.if you can play bach u can play all others
Actually this is Piano transcription (arrangement) by Busoni of a Bach Organ composition. If you think its hard to play on Piano, then try playing it on the Organ with both hands and feet (which is the part in octaves in the left hand). I do agree with you if you can play Bach you can play most and composer.
this guy has skills. about half of the notes in 1:00 -1:10 are octaves (unless he's doing the version without octaves which alot of people do). i don't get how he plays them so fast
Nice piece, less impressive performance to my opinion. I think it sounds nowhere near the original Organ version. I found Michelangeli's interpretation of this piece way more impressive to hear. I find this pianist makes things really unnecessary long and not particulary interesting to listen to. Of course it might be that a lot of the musicial interpretation of this pianist dissapeared while recording the piece, nevertheless this interpretation hasn't really caught my fullest attention.
sorry to 'comment on ur comment'. but i dont think u r giving any 'musical reasons' for criticizing this performance. u just say a) it's not as beautiful as the organ and b) michelangeli's interpretation is better.
a) doesnt apply to gavrylyuk's quality as a pianist, and b) is pretty... trivial (Michelangeli! ..do u need to say that?!)
Ottima interpretazione, mi piace la calma iniziale, la toccata non è affrettata ma ben equilibrata e la fuga non molto legata si avvicina di piu al tocco bachiano. Direi che è un vero bach/busoni e non un busoni/bach. Bravo pianista!
The intensity and mastery of Gavrylyuk is stunning, and the way he plays the exposition (in the fuga!) so clearly and delicately, then builds so perfectly to the climax is beautiful and very intense.
The emotional aims of both composers and the performer have been balanced to make a wonderful creation. I will probably be attacked for speaking for Bach, but honestly, when he wanted to be passionate, he made it fairly obvious!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. My opinion on this piece... It's the best I've ever heard anyone play this on a piano. A moving masterpiece of art so brilliantly enlightened by powerful emotion and skill. I think Bach would be proudly inspired enough to give this man a standing "O" ...BRAVO!!...BRAVO!!
I keep going back to this one; it reminds me that the fugue can be taken slower than some of the renditions on here - and played effectively. Very reassuring!
Lol yeah this is different fro organ version. Maybe from this reason is called transcription :). Maybe from this reason we have piano and organ because both are quite different instruments. If piano have same sound as organ why we need it? I look at this piece as really cool piano piece very difficult and with some similarities in melody to it's ogran original version. Simple this is piano transcription.
