Although Kenny G doesn't really play real jazz, and personally I am not the biggest fan of his sound, but to bash this guy on the overall talent department is foolish. Talk about real jazz all you want, but remember on one hand this is music entertainment and business; he sold it. Look at what people define him anyway, just "smooth jazz," and "adult contemporary." He will probably be some of the most successful, key word "successful," saxophonists ever with the direction of our music today.

As a kid, I thought of jazz as Kenny G. Couldn't stand the man's music. Then I heard Count Basie, Roy Eldridge, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles.... Perhaps it's Kenny G's canned backgrounds. Perhaps it's his near-lack of improvisation and original melody. Perhaps it's his constant pentatonic "tonality" that grates on my nerves like fingernails running down a chalkboard.... I'm sure that Kenny's a nice man, and classically skilled, but compare Miles Davis playing "Summertime" to Kenny G playing it.
