  • Everyone telling him to shut up probably doesn't even know what he's talking about. zz.

  • This had expandability, iPad doesn't

This had handwriting recognition, iPad doesn't

This had wireless file transfer, iPad doesn't

This had removable batteries, iPad doesn't

This had 12-36 hour battery life, iPad doesn't

    You get the idea.

  • @drrobertoboogie97 Hey shut up, you just ruined the surprises on the next 5 generations of the iPad

  • I want THIS!!!

  • -yawn- i just wasted 10:34 minutes of my life listening to you yapping on. you have a really big ego, man...

  • YOU TALK TOO MUCH stfu lol

  • that pwns the ipad....I WANT ONE!

  • so so better than ipad

  • its better than the iPad

  • wow.... i want one. That looks better than my Palm Pilot Tungsten E2.

  • @Justin10473

Actually the emac wasnt a more powerful imac the imac was always more powerful because the emac was aimed torwards education markets

and the imac came before emac, get a free app called mactracker for windows/mac/ios if u want to look at mac specs

  • iPad, is a great name. Slate... crap.

  • wow, how did u get hold of one of these!? lol, i think u should save up ur money and go to a auction and get the 1st apple product, the handmade pc which is a wooden box with knife curvings "APPLE" on it. lol, its like $50,000.

  • the ipads grandpa?

  • lolled so fucking hard at minuite 5:58 it is shoob da woop!

  • Apple, they make stuff that is good even 30 years later...

  • Subscribe me and i will Sub you back VERY FAST !

  • you know... i would have figured out it would be called iPad a while back if i knew about this.

    "MessagePad"

    Well, look. eMac became iMac

Take out the first part, and put an i.

  • @RidgeRacerLord

eMac didn't become iMac. The eMac was just a more powerful iMac, but they didn't call them eMacs for very long...

  • what else do you do with this think and its by apple?

  • lol correction - now iPad

  • @jimbolooo It is still usable. It's really just a digital organizer/planner so you can definitely implement say a GTD method with it. But trust me when you actually have in your hand, it will feel RETRO. I wouldn't pull one of these out today in public unless I was at an Apple expo or something. Even in 2000 when I used a 2K it was rather attention getting, but today, its just too retro-tech to bust out. There's a lot of apps or software for it, much like there is for the older Palm OS.

  • Thank you :)

  • phew.. 10 minutes to show something that can be shown in 45 seconds is way too anoying! you realy love to hear yourself talking, do you ?

  • Why...didn't you just stop watching?

  • that hand writing recigniition is well gd apple should have included that in the ipad, love the scribble to erase

  • u talk to much STFU

  • hmm, i think i like this

  • its on Under seige 2 movie

  • That is old school man..

  • iPad is really lacking, just a huge iTouch. This thing promised a lot more...I'm sad.

  • No one promised anything people expected to much of it and they got let down

  • they promised "the best web surfing experience"... no flash. "The best movie watching experience"... not full screen. "it will change the way we do things every day"... things I can already do on my ipod touch and it fits in my pocket. I'm not trying to start some argument here, but they do promise those things in the video on the apple website. I don't hate the iPad, but if the web browsing doesn't even have flash how can it be "the best" as they promised? Idk... just my opinion.

  • it does have full screen...

  • I would think so, but a tech guy that reviewed it on the radio (KFI) said it didn't.

  • ive seen the full screen in action, so maybe the radio guy got the wrong information.

  • iTouch is not a product!

  • its an abbreviation

  • @ertwro lol are you retarded the ipad is ment to be a big ipod touch (no such thing as a ithouch) or a small crap laptop with a touch screen

  • I meant ipod Touch, sorry...so you people can call me a retard for my mistakes... adam from notion ink has caught my attention. I'm a medstudent so I need to read insane amounts of shit...and the reflective display technology is just what I need, Mirasol would be cooler but my eyes need help ASAP...actually if the ipad had a display like this I would pay 4 times it's actual price. The ipad It's gonna have the best publishing partners...students would love a solution for his eyes and back pain.

  • it doesn't run leopard it runs turtle :D

  • Wow dude that was cool for 13 years ago

  • At that time, i assume that this would have been very expensive, close to 2000 to 3000 USD

  • i really dont give a shit about the tablet, i just want the new macbook pros to come out

  • wow.. as old as this is it still looks pretty damn usable O_O

  • @jimbolooo not really it was 1997 not the long ago

  • why hasnt anyone come up with the name APPTAB for the new apple tablet its an apple product hence the APP also it runs apps (probobly) and its a tablet. it just seems like such an obvious name doesnt it....the new APPTAB from apple...coment me please am i crazy or is this a perfect name lol

  • it's not a very good name, sorry

  • Comment removed

  • very impressed with this

  • Holy crap I had no idea handwriting recognition was this good...man I really hope they impliment handwriting technology on the new islate.

  • if this 13 years old, what about the islate !!!???

    it will be (apple miracle).

  • Comment removed

  • This is pretty damn impressive. I was 13, at the time, never would have saw something like this, it would have blown my mind and bricks would have been shat.

  • This was 13 YEARS AGO!!! OMG thats so crazy! lol

  • Wow, that is awesome. Quite high tech for its time!

  • This is all I'm really looking for inthe islate, if they can include PowerPoint I will love this. I'm prett much looking to use this as a note taker in school and all the professors use PowerPoint to write their notes.

  • Comment removed

  • Has nothing to do with heat. It's to do with the electrical conductivity of your finger.

  • wow, whered u get all these electronics.

  • very impressive for 13 years ago!

  • it's stupid ...

  • You are obviously a noob.

  • and you are obviously a nerd, due the fact that you even use a word like "noob". got ya on that, or like you would say it. I pwned you ;)

  • How do you pwn somebody this smarter then you? Obviously you pwned yourself.

  • This just seems so ugly and primitive in 2010 technology age.

  • omg!!! it's giant!

  • lol many shades of gray

  • If this is released 13 years ago

How hard must the iSlate be?

  • Autofocus is really distracting. Cool device tho.

  • i want one of these, they look cool to be so old.

  • i had a import resistive touchsceen motorola roker e8 now i have a motrola cliq. i

  • Yio this machine isn't a god xD I wouldn't have been able to read the second this is a test you try xD I would have said '' This is adel ''

  • Yeah!!!!!

  • I didn't know that this awesome device has already released by Apple

    I'm Japanese . So my english may be so strange(^^;

  • great video and also a great product in my opinion(for a 13 year old product)

  • looks awesome!

  • I think the "Islate" should be this, but in color and a bit smaller XD...I wouldnt mind it not being capacitive touch screen, after all...I use resistive one my phone (HTC touch diamond) :)

  • @calerouxz If it was any smaller it would be just another iPhone.

  • omfg! this is so old school! good memories! lol

  • omg. Not trying to be a perv or anything, but when he drew the circles and rectangles... it looks like 2 ppl doing it doggy style! :O

  • Wow. This device so far actually looks pretty good. Specially since it is over 13 years old. The genious at Apple has never stopped. They have thought of things that I wouldn't have thought of, and made other things simple and easy to use. Good job Apple. (sorry if that was a little late)

  • EAT UP MARTHA

  • Great vid, good point in looking at the past to predict the future!

  • WOW i was 10 when they came out now 23. still think this type of tablet will be the future.

  • Maybe the apple will come out with a special syltus for the iSlate that compasitive screens can read

  • this is incredible.

  • Is a Newton 2100 worth 350 dollars?

  • if your a collector.

  • FAIL: it says

    This is Test r :P

  • wow! pretty impressive!

  • love the oldie newton

btw can you lot check out my new blog

    techrightnow.blogspot. com

looking for writer & tips. rss us :-)

  • 13 years later the iSlate probably be the same as the Newton 2100.

  • Nice device i'm actually surprised to have a 480x320 screen resolution... I wish i had it! Typing from an iPod touch ;)

  • You are wrong you Can use some special stylers on the iPhone ( Can't remember the name of the screen)

  • i think i would still buy and use this

  • wow

  • this is how old :O quite good for sumin that old

  • wow a nice look back, i feel like buying both the new apple istate and the old apple tablet newton.

  • Jon always said "education is very important", and he writes "this class sucks", LOL

  • A bit offtopic, but Jon: If you want techno buffalo to succeed, you have to do a bit better in the webdesign department, buddy. Right now it kinda looks like a website from the Newton tablet days.

  • i agree with this, i find myself not using the site as much as i thought i would and thats mainly down to the web design

  • And to think Apple really invented copy and paste, they really are!

This thing is way before Palm or Windows Mobile phones are created!

  • It would be really funny if all of these rumors about the tablet were not true and there never was a tablet.

  • @Konst10tine Lol that would be an epic fail for all those making a big deal outta it :D

  • Omg I feel like i've seen this exact same video before.. like didnt u post it already?

  • This is epic

  • If I have one of this for college, my life would be perfect!!

  • It was cool for its day and relatively small too. What I remember was the price was killing sales. Cost way too much for a portable note taker. And there was serious problems of hype outpacing the actual usefulness of this thing. The failure of this product really set hand recognition products like it back for a long time (in my opinion). But one cool product that had many of these same features was the Bellsouth Simon. It was cell-phone sized with auto rotating screen and on screen keys

  • for being 13 years old this thing is pretty awesome

  • Nice interface at its year i think.

  • That is the electronic device of 2010.

  • Apple really was ahead of its time.

  • they always are

  • hmmm...interesting but I don't really have much use for this kind of gadget....

  • it's better then windows vista!

    and it's 13 year ago!

  • and you watch hentai

    your life is fucked up

    just like vista, fucked up

  • hahahhahahahaha xD

  • Lol, so true!

  • at 2:45 DATS WHAT SHE SAIDD.!!!!HAHA JON U NASTY

  • 13 year old technology. Matches perfectly with this 13 month old rumor.

  • lol how shit!

  • possibly the iSlate could have a capacitive stylus

  • so theres a new islate coming out soon?

  • iFlop

  • Great Video TY for Posting! Newton 2100 was amazing for stylus-input-to-text conversion. Slower than keyboard though. Of course the Tablet PC's have been around for years and are very very good at stylus input handwriting recognition. HP offers a capacitive touch screen PC too. It will be interesting to see Apple's latest thinking on the Tablet/Slate concept. But you already know this. What I really wanted to say was....Oops out of space......to be cont.

  • there are capacitive touch screens with styli

take the HP TX2 for example

perfect solution for capacitive + stylus set up

thnx to n-trig solutions of course :)

  • you know there are styluses designed to be used with capacitive screens right?

  • that is pretty cool! wont get the apple thing cuz iphone kicks ass!

  • about 250$ - 300$ for all of you people asking.

  • it said 11.95$ on the box when he opened it. it wouldnt be 250$ way to much for a product 13 years old.

  • @SOLE1PRODUCTIONS $11.95 for the shipping.

  • Dang, I was 3 years old when that thing came out! Lol…

  • 50 cents

  • how much is it worth now?

  • Where did you get it?

  • very nice...5/5

  • Hey Jon - I think that Apple should make a stylus that takes the (electrons?) from you hand and put them onto the end of the stylus so it works on capacitive screens. I think Apple would be able to pull this off really well.

  • Nice video Jon. One question, since it cost about a thousand dollars for the newton when it first came out, how does it cost now?how much did it run you to get it? I'm just curious how much the price has dropped for something like that 13 years after it was released

  • Dude that's badass !

    even for nowadays :D

If the Apple Tablet can do this (lol probably will) I will definitly buy it

  • that thing is awesome.

  • BEAST

  • this is what makes this channel so great!, but i don;t like the size of ur knife! looks dangerous.

  • Its a shitty iphone still pretty good for something 13 years old

  • Cannot wait for the new one to come out.

  • I love how people seem to have just adopted the term iSlate, despite the fact that it hasn't even been announced yet.

  • yeah but its probably because saying apple tablet all the time takes more time. or maybe its because people really believe that´s what its gonna be called, despite the fact that nobody knows if its even gonna be made

  • thats what jon said...

  • 1,000 dollars 13 years ago? Wow! How much did you buy it for today?

  • I found a few $200-$400 on ebay

  • 200~500

  • copy and paste impressive

  • Wow! It had copy and paste before the iPhone! lol

  • Comment removed

  • how big is the screen?

  • That is really advanced. The new apple tablet/iSlate will probably be really advanced too.

  • for something 13 years old, that thing operates better then half the crap on the market today.

  • omg I haven't seen one of those in ages!

  • jeez thats pretty advanced for 13 years ago

  • thats what she said

  • whos she???

  • I would buy it today. I have 2 carry 4 different notebooks for school. If the newton had more memory and can play video and music I will by it

  • apple was pretty ahead of the curve.

  • i want one of those hah. kidding :)

  • i hope the islate wont cost 1000 if it cost that much i will just buy a macbook i hope its like $500-700

  • "People are asking me why i'm showing a device that's 13 years old that noone has seen for close to a decade and a half"

    - Wow, great math there Jon. A decade and a half would be 15 years.

  • "close to a decade and a half"

    close to

    key words there hah

  • he sed close to, that means about a decade and a half

  • sir speakalot, just dont even speak anymore you lost your privledge

  • wow, great comeback pal
