Mark Lanegan does have a similar voice to Cobain....but I think that's in part because of him being a big influence on Cobain. Keep in mind The Screaming Trees recorded their first album in 1985, two years before Nirvana even formed. And his debut 1990 album was a big influence on Nirvana's 1993 Unplugged set.
@FaithIsAnnoyed Kurt couldn't hold Marks cigarette, what the fuck does this have to do with Kurt? Marks one of the greatest ever, Kurt went up like a spark!!!
@6shadow6lord6 about a girl and all apologies are not ballads because kurt didnt want them to be. i wouldnt think of him as the ballad type. if anyone is there ballad its their cover of the vasolines jesus dont want me for a sunbeam. or the man who sold the world, also a cover.
and i was fully aware that kurt didnt write the god damn song.have a sense of humor.
I was certain that this was Nirvana too, their voices are very similar, and especially because this was played in the background of the scene in Hype where they talk about Cobain's death.
@jczother This song was featured in the documentary "Hype" and it's soundtrack, specifically at the end of the film, when it focuses on Kurt's death and everyone in the Seattle rock cummunity's reaction. I think that's why a lot of people use this song as their basis of their Nirvana tribute videos. It's an excellent film, if you haven't seen it.
@jczother Yeah I mean Lou Reed, but i didnt mean voice more in his songwriting. I hear a lot of VU influences. The most striking one is when u compare oh sweet nothing to All that I know
@KurtCobainof21 I am sure Mark was greatly influenced by Lou, I think they are very on the edge writers. I love them both and Mark does tribute Nico. Sorry if my words were cross, I just always thought Lanegan was in another league but in the same game. If that makes any since
@lovernamedloveseth Um...ignoring how flawed this logic is and that there's concrete proof it was written by Mark Lanegan, you do realise About A Girl was meant to be a ballad? Or All Apologies?
dude when i first listend to this i thought that this song is sung by kurt cobain cos kurt n mark are friends .... so thts why this song reminds me of him .. n i never see kurt as a musician !! he was a good person with great personality ....
You people who claim to love and appreciate Kurt Cobain as an artist and as human being (who incidentally, you never knew!), should surely realise that these comments and this pointless video montage are infact greatly demeaning to the memory of a fine musician and to the artistry of Mark Lanegan (who's permission was never granted when using his material for this video).
I live in Olympia and have been to Arbedeen where the picture of the building and the view under the bridge are. When i was there i felt a strong presence.Miss you Kurt. Mark Lanegan,Im glad hes still around. This song has long been a fav. of mine.Very emotional and moveing.
Mark Lanegan sounds like Jim Morrison sometimes, such a dark and emotional music. Great sound... Mark was Kurt's friend, just like Lyne Staley. And Mark wanted to make song House a Home and other songs with Kurt...
The guiter dose sounds like Nirvana

There is no confusing Lanegan for Cobain, no way no how except to maybe the untrained ear.
Not to say that you're any less a fan for not knowing, because I'm sure any Nirvana song would sound great coming from Lanegan and vice-versa
