  • Hey that stater saver box, can that work with the MSD 6AL box? I'm finding the same problem with my Chevelle, a can't run the timing in the car cause I can't start the motor with the fixed distributor

  • @Rasd4Metta Yes that should work with your 6AL, I find it also has more stable spark timing with that starter saver box, you will like it

  • @groutaone Cool thanks man!

  • You can use jumper wires and a variable resistor to set Redline on that thing. Sweet.

  • I just noticed that you look a lot like Michael Schuhmacher!!!!

  • @Marv1451996 Kinda funny you are not the first guy to say that, dont have his money though.

  • is 7100 normal for a drag racing engine?

  • @jwgreathouse 7100 is a little low for a drag race engine, this engine however came from my street car that I no longer have, it has lower compression and can run on pump gas. The valve springs are only rated for 7300 which determines how high I will rev it in this case.

  • It must be the electrons unable to flow through the wire because they are pressed back in their seats so hard when you're givin it down the strip. :)

  • @FirebirdFarmboy Hadn't thought of that lol

  • I love the MSD boxes, all i have ever used. I have had the same problem breaking grounds off like that. really enjoyed seeing the car apart like that i was wondering a few things about the setup and now i know the answers. beautiful ride my friend. I'm thinking we show our ages by using "old antique" analog meters hahaha. mine is a craftsman from suntune from 1970.---peace--

  • @jayrocks1967 Well thank you very much, you are right about the old analog meters ha ha

  • nice bent screwdriver haha

  • @pnskbk May work well for around corners heh heh

  • wow 36 Degrees? that's pretty far out why so much? or is that a combination of 16 on the motor and 20 on the MSD box? that's a pretty slick set up though. you'd think they'd have some kind of racing computerized interface that you could put in and control everything from it instead of having to have all that extra wiring and boxes everywhere like that though.

  • @daddytech 36 degrees is where most every gas engine on the planet makes its peak horsepower, give or take a few degrees. This car has a 5000 stall converter so lugging the engine with high timing is never a worry, its all good.

  • @groutaone hmm interesting. then am i to understand you in saying that it's 36 peak? or is that where it runs all the time?

  • @daddytech Yes my timing is at 36 all the time, except if the starter cranks, then it drops down 20 degrees so it will still turn over nice

  • @groutaone kinda sounds to me like it would turn over with a huge bang or at least really loud since you are uncapped on that thing lol

  • did you check the cigarette lighter?? haha

  • @spidez8407 lol ya thats it, thanks

  • @groutaone lol glad i could help haha j.k

  • @spidez8407 Always enjoy your comments, drop in again anytime

  • @groutaone will do. Hows the skilsaw treatin ya

  • @spidez8407 Havent been riding for a while, hope to make another vid with it coming up

  • That adjustable chip is a cool little piece of equipment. Electrical problems are my least favorite thing to deal with.

  • @RamblinAround I like these problems only if I can fix them, I dont like this one ha ha

  • Sounds like you need your own test track behind your shop....:) Keep tinkering, you'll find that glitch. I work on busses and from time to time run into those "ghost" electrical issues. They can be very frustrating and quite time consuming, although your race car is probably much more fun to work on than a big old bus. Graet vids!! Fummins...Mind if I Smoke???

  • @75DieselDog Old buses are always worth looking under the hood for a big old chevy 454 or 427, always a gem to find one, roll the coal my friend

  • Nice car, but some of that wiring is a cluster...Need to spend some time on harness fab.....

  • @avionicswirenut Thanks, I think even most factory cars have wireing that looks like that under the dash, after the dash is back on in looks perfect lol.

  • @groutaone I have 21 years of aircraft avionics..Some of those years was building wiring and design of avionics...One of my hobbies many years ago was car audio installs....No longer mess with it....I spent lots of time trying to make wiring look neat and formed into tight harnesses....Of course, in a car if you can hide it, no one will see it....

  • Multi-turn precision resistor in the red chip.

  • @edzgarage Bet that thing will turn 20 times for all the adjustment, thats fine tuning lol

  • that makes u wonder

  • Neat!!

  • Que lindo Fiat!... para pasear por Av Sta Fe

  • Very nice collection of effect boxes . Who descided on what went with what, they did not all come from one manufacturer. Did you buy this machine as a running project ? Like your process, what did i disturb last !

  • @magna59 Often wireing bugs can be created by the owner. all components are made by MSD and are made to work together, I bought the car without the engine and also rewired almost the entire car. This is the first electrical trouble I have had with the car but it sure is a big glitch in the system somwhere.

  • Looks like a very complex setup. Thanks for sharing!

  • that's a hell of an ignition system!

  • GOSH!! All that science and calculation, when nothing more than a heavy foot and a little bit of asphalt woulda simulated that shift perfectly! ;)

  • @rekjavicxxx Yes you are right, however I wanted to do my best to solve the problem BEFORE I went back to the track, last thing I want to do is pull my car apart at the track when I would rather be racing.

  • @groutaone Haha....yeah, I was just messin with ya man. Nuthin like tryin to hit 100 before the end of the driveway though ;)

  • @rekjavicxxx Hmm, another video idea .

  • Electrical issues FTW! such a fragile subject, plus it's the owners pride being put to the test, when the diagram is "made by the owner". I'd bet it's still some ground connection problem. thumbs up for some nice looking ignition setup and electrical work, behind the dash!

  • @Zmairo Thanks buddy, for now I have solved it by disableing the electric shift and shifting it manually, its kinda fun to shift the car while trying to stay alive lol

  • @groutaone he he, nice standard feature in this :P Great vid

  • that is quite an ignition set up

  • thx 4 the vid

  • thats some nifffty MSG

  • Interesting stuff Buddy!! all that newfangled stuff is above my head!! Remember the good ole days when all ya had to worry about was Fuel, Spark, and Compression eh!! Great video!!☺

  • @805ROADKING The 88 Toyota pickup I drive is still like that, has a carb, choke and all the old goodies, something I can work on

  • That was a very interesting video. Thumbs up for the Tech.

  • great vid as always keep the tech stuff coming we all like learning !

  • INTERESTING!!! GREAT VID

  • wow that is as hytec as you can get !! very interesting !!

  • if something was moving on the shift you would think it would also move when you come off the transbrake, but it doesnt. I would try shifting a few hundred rpm higher or lower to see if that makes a difference, or unhook the dedenbear and try one pass of shifting yourself. Just a couple things that i thought of while i was watching. Goodluck groutaone!

  • @427ImportEater This was driving me a little nuts so I pulled the rpm dial plug (the one where the red chip went in) so it would no longer shift by itself and I have been shifting it manually while racing and have had no problems with the ignition like that. So that narrows it down some as to where to look

  • @groutaone ahh groutaone, we always seem to be thinking alike! Hey i just thought, try unhooking the neutral safety switch. The dedenbear may not be pushing it into gear or to far. I just know those safety switches are finiky, but good luck!

  • @427ImportEater I will have a look

  • Awesome!! i love tech vids!! very interesting and educational!!

  • very interesting stuff. thanks

  • MSD make some great things...Ever thought of going to a magy or is that not in your class.?.do you keep the same timing and fuel for the No2.?..good vid.

  • @ziggassedup Thanks for having a look, I start mixing in C-12 race gas when If I want to use the nitrous and pull out timing as needed, normally 2 degrees for every 50 hp

  • The jolt or bump from the up shift is likely moving something causing the blip. Electrical issues can be so tedious to find. Good luck!

  • @yellowbusguy Ya this is a tough one, seems it needs full rpms or the shock of the car in motion to sometimes malfunction.
