I've used the same AD590 with a Microcontroller PIC, to control heating and cooling of an specific area, programmed via Hiperterminal (created a command pront within the PIC to interact with the user via UART communication).
The programming was to setup the lower and highet temp levels which the cooler and the heater devices will start working.
