Hey im interested in buying an rx8 but i dont know how well they run or if they break down often got any tips or suggestions? Any and all thoughts will be accepted thanks you =]
@g4m3rsc0r3 the synchronic does watch the vids about it, it sucks in air to give u a better throttle responce so the turbo has more time to get air to the engine
I have a r32 gts-t skyline, It has a synapse currently installed. The skyline has a maf, it is currently recirculating, I want it to be louder so I need to vent it to atmosphere. Can I take off the recirc hoses and install the anti stall kit?
Hey I have had my RX-8 for a couple months now and i've been thinking about making it turbo. There seems to be no room in the engine compartment so what exactly do you get rid of? Is it just the stock airfilter? And i also saw a supercharged RX-8. Which system seems to work better Turbo or supercharged? Thanks
@joshtard1111 Depends on what feeling you want for your car Supercharged it belt driven so power is always there via belts!!! Turbo you have wait on spool up and your good but watch it cause RPM climbs fast. With turbo worry about boost creep, spikes, and excessive heat. With super charging worry about spinning belts off (rare but seen it happen few times) and limits of the pulley...
Hey man, the problem with bov's isnt that its sucking in unmetered air, its cause its releasing metered air, therefor causing a rich condition, not the other way around.
Its releasing too much air, making the car with, more gas less air = rich, bov's release air, not suck it in.
@Fubar231 The Synchronic without the anti stall fitting is OPEN when there is no boost. Thus it is sucking in unmetered air, and why a filter is required on the BOV. This is not an issue if you have a MAP based fuel system, as shown in the video. You obviously would not want this setup on a MAF system.
@tyrannical if your sucking past the bov you have a poorly matched turbo all bov are open at idle or whenever there is vac in the intake ie when the throttle blade is shut allowing boost to flow out throught the bov only time the bov is fully closed 0 vac
@Fubar231 it all depends on if the car is using a maf or map , lost of new cars now are sticking with map as its more accurate interms of lag time between the ecu and the change on throttle.
your videos are the sole reason I will have an r-x8. Im thinking after I get threw my first 2 years a Florida State College. I hope to see tons of new vids and ideas, so I will know what and what not to do!
rx8 has high compression rotors, so it doesn't need a lot of pressure to make power. The general rule of thumb though is 9 psi = 300 whp, 16 psi = 400 whp.
It's a turbo set up. What you were looking at in the beginning of the video you were looking at the BOV (Blow Off Valve) and the charge piping on the cold side that goes into the throttlebody.
its not true that if you go over 13psi your engine will explode. i've seen cars with over 20 psi. there's a DSM eclipse with either 23 or 24 psi. you can find it if you look for it on youtube
bov stands for blow of valve it releases pressure built up by the turbo when the throttle is let of, because there is no where else for the pressure to go but back out through the turbo, unless you have a bov
This is not Intended for Women to Watch or they might faint from too much Visual Excitement!.................Parental Guidance is highly suggested.............Rated P.G.- A.H.J.
When did they come out with that "whatyuhmacallit" known as "Synchronic B.O.V."?
Which Manufacturer and Model # and is this the only company that makes this style of an Blowout Valve?
depends on the part. the 04-08's are interchangable. The 09's have some slight modifications, but it's changed enough that you can't use the same rotor housings, tail lights, bumpers, etc.
y not filter the BOV? its Blowing cleaner air right into the engine compartment, which in turn may contribute a small amount of clean air back into the engine
This remains in option position at idle, so it's sucking in air (bypassing the turbo system). There r three options: 1) to install a small air filter on it, 2) recirculate the bov, or 3) install the anti stall adapter.(shown at the begining of the video)
shit.... damn thing sounds like an airliner... prolly got some balls. how much power you think u got? im not too much into imports but i do have great respect for em.. ima a dodge man myself got a 01 cummins turbo diesel 4 wheel drive with a dayna 80 rear end axle.
I'm not 100% sure I get the purpose of the filter on the BOV. Typically if you vent to atmosphere the air never reenters the system anyhow. Why filter the air as it's being blow out of the system? I could be missing something here. I read the manual for that BOV and according to the manual a filter is required. Recirculation is usually done through a tube that just pushes the air back into the system without exposing it to unfiltered air. If there is something I don't understand please inform me
"what is this whole idea of unreliability past a certain mileage.. it doesn't work like that all it is is a myth."
Well buddy it didn't seem that way with the rx7's the only thing reliable about them is that they DO blow up after x miles. What you said there, is like saying the 2nd gen 2.0L eclipse turbos crank walk is a myth lol.. of course your correct when talking about "rotartys" in general, but not Mazda and their rx7's
ps. this bov looks like sum kinda ant eater w/ that thing on it

the 13b-renesis is nothing like the 13b-rew. i think the side exhaust ports (rather than peripherals), 6-port design, and of air jets, exhaust air pump and overlap together arent in favour of forced induction, not to mention loads of arf rich/ detonation problems without an efi. mazda themselves have struggled with turbo-charging the renesis. but its kool if you dont believe me, one day ull get ur proof and rub it in my face eh?
both of you bitches stfu...a rotary is just that..a different type of motor...both piston and rotary engines can run well past their intended use with regular care......
adding a turbo to an otherwise naturally aspirated engine will ALWAYS decrease its life, and can be very unpredictable........that is an inarguable fact.
Now, let it be learned....arguing on the internet is pointless.

But what is the point of a BOV anyway? From what Ive been told,it is supposed to reduce turbo lag since the compressed air inside will slow the turbo down unless its released by the BOV..My theory is that it in a such case it would be better to put on a butterfly valve BEFORE the turbo, that acts like the BOV,only it shuts the air off rather than releasing the excess.Think of a clogged vacuum cleaner, the motor spins faster because theres no air inside that slows the fan blades down.Just a thought.
I thought the very point of a synchronic BOV was to suck in air...wouldnt it be better to couple it to the intake hose between the turbo and the air amount meter?
There is more than one way to use it. Recirculation is useful for MAF setups. You don't need it if you're running MAP. I happen to have the choice between the two using a microtech and an accessport.
greddy can't make 250. greddy makes 270whp/215 tq at 9 psi. To get 250 you'd need something like a 3071R, and it makes about 308 whp at that torque level (also 9 psi). If you go to 16 psi, you'll make 400 whp / 300 torque.
hey dude i have an rx-8 and ive always wanted to turbo it....wat would be the best way to start this?? is it costly and wat sort of power gain will i get from it??
I joined 2 years ago, the synchronic hasn't been out 2 years yet... but if you're talking about the rx-8, it's held up well. The accessport is a godsend for the vehicle. Perfect fuel management without it doing odd things due to temp changes, or pcm fighting with aftermarket piggybacks.
What ECU have you got for it now to run that system? I want to get a turbo for my RX8 and want everything to run as nicely as possible with very few bugs. Do you expect the engine to hold up well running boost?
After a few weeks with this BOV, the only issues I've had is that the o-ring that seals the BOV to the flange is easily cut when installing ... so you might want to get some extra when ordering. Also the two set screws that hold the BOV to the flange can work loose. Get loctite so they don't fall out. Additionally, the set screws are kinda soft and can strip if you tighten too much.
Shit looks like its gonna punch through a vagina.

how do you mean before the turbo?
Samtkjones 2 years ago
I thought the very point of a synchronic BOV was to suck in air...wouldnt it be better to couple it to the intake hose between the turbo and the air amount meter?
KapteinOpel 3 years ago
There is more than one way to use it. Recirculation is useful for MAF setups. You don't need it if you're running MAP. I happen to have the choice between the two using a microtech and an accessport.

How much torque does this one have?
AkinaGod 3 years ago
210 on the greddy turbo at 9 psi. 250 tq on the 3071R upgrade at 9 psi. These are all low boost numbers, we can go to around 13-14 psi on street gas.
tyrannical 3 years ago
Not bad. Not a fan of greddy personally. 250 torque is good though. What is the HP at 250 torque?
AkinaGod 3 years ago
greddy can't make 250. greddy makes 270whp/215 tq at 9 psi. To get 250 you'd need something like a 3071R, and it makes about 308 whp at that torque level (also 9 psi). If you go to 16 psi, you'll make 400 whp / 300 torque.

since you posted this video two years ago, how has the whole system held up?
650FLN 3 years ago
I joined 2 years ago, the synchronic hasn't been out 2 years yet... but if you're talking about the rx-8, it's held up well. The accessport is a godsend for the vehicle. Perfect fuel management without it doing odd things due to temp changes, or pcm fighting with aftermarket piggybacks.

What ECU have you got for it now to run that system? I want to get a turbo for my RX8 and want everything to run as nicely as possible with very few bugs. Do you expect the engine to hold up well running boost?

What brand and model air filter is on the blow off valve? I need to get one for my Sychronic bov and yours looks good!

what type of turbo kit you running and what are your horsepower readings???????
TonyT397 4 years ago
280 whp right now. In 2 weeks I'll be upgrading the turbo. So will be able to push 350 whp.
tyrannical 4 years ago
you still did not tell me what type of turbo kit your are running on your rx8??
TonyT397 4 years ago
what turbo kit do you plan to get
hish911 4 years ago
It's not often you see an RX-8 with a turbo. Very nice!

like the car, watched both vids. like to see more action :)

After a few weeks with this BOV, the only issues I've had is that the o-ring that seals the BOV to the flange is easily cut when installing ... so you might want to get some extra when ordering. Also the two set screws that hold the BOV to the flange can work loose. Get loctite so they don't fall out. Additionally, the set screws are kinda soft and can strip if you tighten too much.

excuse..
btw wat is the anti stall for??
xcincai 4 years ago
anti-stall
figure it out yourself
blackXSpr 4 years ago
Isn't it to minimize Turbo lag?
crswjr 4 years ago
Nope. It's for the car not to stall at idle or intersection lights etc.

where can i get one of those filters?
mzking1980 4 years ago
Email Geoff at titanmotorsports dot com. He has the best price for this BOV.
tyrannical 4 years ago
i love the sound..i cant wait to get mine..on order now.
mzking1980 4 years ago
It's one or the other. You either have the recirculating fitting (with filter over it) or the anti stall valve.
tyrannical 4 years ago
so, the antistall valve was on under the air filter?
