  • Snow Golem

  • I think this strongly horrorific cartoon might have been influenced by Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos. And possibly in turn influenced Beck's Captain Marvel. That cave with the lightning bolt reminded me of Cap. This little epic, starting off so cute, and turning into a tale of terror is a masterpiece. So thanks for uploading it and for the long informative description. The little bears head on were 100% Mickey clones, and the little seals too, but with no ears.

  • I watched this in a video collection when I was six now I'm 21

  • I got here by tv tropes

  • Thats why you don't pee in the snow.

  • This is actually a better cartoon than Eshbaugh's WIZARD OF OZ. That one is awkwardly structured, and like this one has no character voices. But that was an advantage when considering foreign markets.

  • I like how they dance around their newly created god. :)

  • I wasn't expecting for him to turn evil at all. Thanks for sharing & uploading these cartoon gems

  • Just nuke the bastard!

  • @HoneyDJon They more or less did.

  • They were so happy.

  • See, kids? Global Warming is our Friend! 7@=Q

  • one thing that struck me as odd, why does it say "All television rights reserved"? TV didn't exist in 1932...

  • @coolbluelights TV did exist then, experimentally- there were regular broadcasts so the experimenters and developers could play...

  • @coolbluelights I'm guessing that was a newer title graphic that was put on when this cartoon was sold (probably as part of a package) for tv broadcasting.

  • @coolbluelights Many cartoon libraries were sold to television in huge packages, from the 50s on, and often had changes made to their titles, or were even edited. They had literally no value for theatricals anymore, but because of tv these old cartoons got a new lease on life. In the first phase they were usually on daily or weekly kid shows in local markets like Sheriff John in LA or Capt Jolly in Iowa. Later they were repackaged again for cable such as Cartoon Network and then DVD. And now YT

  • @gnikcohs Many copies of these old cartoons come from the tv versions so they are modified. But it is amazing how they keep coming back again and again.

  • He's just like my mother inl aw

  • My grandmother can't believe she got to see this cartoon again. It's great!

  • What was going on in the Soviet Union in 1932? Stalin.

  • Well, im having a nightmare

  • Creepy. Inter species procreation, magic stoves, snowmen that will "rape and terrorize" a town, a nuclear explosion and a fish with a creepy laugh. That's really all I ever wanted in my life.

  • a show man, snow man.

  • God this scared me when I was little xD

  • At 7:29 the snowman melts to the same music by Wagner that plays when Siegfried is stabbed by Hagen in Gotterdammerung.

  • freaky ending

  • I love old animation and this was a really good one thanks for posting this!

  • frosty disliked it

  • they give him life and he pays with destruction

  • @DustBloodV2 sounds like any man, not just a snow man.

  • @XmasFLIX ohohohoh touche

  • @DustBloodV2 Thats what we did for Jesus Christ as well.

Maybe we can all learn something from this cartoon ^_^

    Merry Christmas everyone!

  • I found a good review about this cartoon that mentions why this, and many other cartoons of that time..(.1930's.)..were scary.

Horror movies like Dracula, the Werewolf, and Frankenstein were very popular during that era, so the cartoons was just going with what was selling at the time and most likely were shown before these movies.

  • @suny14u yeah, you can find that in the descriptive text under the video that YouTube makes impossible to find.

    Enjoy!

  • Yes the White man always comes to destroy the indiginous people, there religeons, and steal there resources.

  • What I find fascinating is that the cartoon was released in 1932 and in the intro it says that it was Television had exclusive rights...

I believe that the cartoon initially was released in color to theaters and then the rights were sold to television in black in white....

  • The baby polar bears look just like how Mickey Mouse would look in the late 30's

  • I was watching the history detectives in pbs, and someone had several cells of this cartoon in color. They said it was one of the first cartoons to be in color

    .

Because of seing this on the show, I wanted to know more about the animators since it has some Disney kind of way in some of its drawings. I found that it was released in 1932 and that some of the animators use to draw for Disney, and some will then go back to work for Disney. It was produced by Ted Eshbaugh's studio.

  • @suny14u Yes, you can click the text under the video for more info. Enjoy.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this! It was a childhood favourite of mine and brought back fond memories of my brother and I watching it every Christmas. Even thought its content was somewhat scary we enjoyed it all the way through.

  • I wonder if Bill Watterson saw this, what with his Calvin & Hobbes 'Snow Goons' comic strip story arc.

Hobbes: "How did they finally kill Frosty?"

Calvin: "I don't know, now I wish I'd watched that stupid show! Maybe they stabbed him with an icicle!"

  • He turned evil cause they didn't give him any clothes. The original story behind snowmen that didn't have clothes clearly states that they'd rape the women and terrorise the town. XD

  • OMGosh, I would think that shoving something in a butt (@5:46) would've been censored by those who oversaw what was allowed on tv, *especially* back in 1932!

  • Wow! Now if they had THAT evil Snowman in Jack Frost (the movie about a serial killer snowman) that would have actually scared people

  • I learned global warming isn't such a bad thing

  • Wow, what a mean snow monster, lol.

  • There must have been black magic in that old stovepipe they found...

  • Whats going on!?

  • oh my god! what the hell where they thinking?! absolute proof we had it easier than are grandparents!

  • O..O

    This is DEFINATLY not frosty.......

  • those little bears look like mickey mouse lol

  • @sonamyfan11 I think that's because this is a Disney/Iwerks cartoon before they split.

  • I heard that this was in color at one time. is that just a myth?

  • @karnella Yes, please read the description text under the video for more info. Thanks.

  • They really need to continue making these kind of black and white short films. They always give me a perfect feeling.

  • frist time I saw this, was on an old video tape in my attic when I was 6

How did you think I felt...

  • muhehe !!!

  • OMFG! Dude when I was a kid, every christmas we would play Rudolph the red nosed reindeer (It was awesome) and this was a bonus clip with the video! Nobody else remembered it except me so I just thought that it was lost in time because it was such an old VHS. I have been looking for it for years, and now I have found it.

    Subbed

  • Disturbing......

  • God I wish I were high right now.

  • @Harl3yH3arts I can't even imagine.

  • I love this cartoon :D havent seen in forever! Evil snowman-Santa granted my christmas wish!

  • These old black and white cartoons were so awsome. I love the vintage Halloween type cartoons.

  • he did a seagull

  • I love this style of animtation. Too bad disney is too lazy to make their movies like they did in the old days. I mean, toy story 3. Come on.

  • that little bastard caused global warming! lol

  • This is how Jack Frost 1996 was born!!!

  • this micky?

  • This is still very strange to me because it's unexpected that he will turn into a demonic snowman. I like it a lot though.

  • whys it take so long to buffer?? something wrong with my computer or is it youtube this time?

  • @imreallyhappyforyou your computer

  • Is this

    Mickey & Minnie

  • i'm almost 100% certain i'm going to have a nightmare tonight!

  • @amybeepea may I suggest another vid of mine called "A Christmas Dream" or "Insects Christmas"? That should clear your mind. I know "insects" does not sound pleasant, but it's quite wonderful.

    Merry Xmas!

  • think that's scary? play the scary maze game and silent car

  • XmasFlix..thank you! Superb! What a present!

  • Thank you very much for this upload and especially for the information in the sidebar. There is very little information about this film on the 'net. IMDb does not list it. Instead, IMDb has falsely applied information about this cartoon to a 1940 Terrytoon of the same name. This is definitely not a Terrytoon.

  • Enjoyed it very much, thanks
