@mcoope15 Let it go already. Theres two sides to every story and even the artist that left him still respected him and thanked him for giving them there start. Also he ain't the first or last to get over on artist so why do people always attack him for doing it?
@mcoope15 Whatever you think about Berry Gordy, he was a visionary in a time when many from his background didn't even dare to dream of what Motown would go on to accomplish. I'm not excusing the negative aspects of his business dealings with his artists. However you can't not acknowledge the doors he opened. Many of his artists would never have recieved the opportunities he gave them. Also the artist development he set up for them, with legends like Cholly Aitkins, and the finishing school.
Travis is a good interviewer--and posed an interesting question here. I'm curious if he pushed Gordy, though, about some of the mistakes at Motown, about Florence Ballard, about the artists (like Gladys Knight) who felt neglected. . . . .
Wow! I can't wait to see this whole interview. Yeah, I read in Michael's book that he wasn't that interested at first...Berry is a genius and I believe God orchestrated these masterful artists in his life whether he wanted them there or not...So amazing...
I agree with you..there are serendipitous acts of divine intervention..whether we like it or not.Life does it's thing..thats what happen to Mr. Berry Gordy..a brilliant mind and an instinctive man.
Berry Gordy comes off as a gentle person but what a stern and shrewd businessman he was. Regardless of all of the mess I've read about him he gave so many artists who were so young a chance to become somebody and he gave the world music that will last forever. I praise him for his work and I praise Motown for what they've incorporated not in just my life but everybody's life. great music. Long live Motown.
Tavis, the Berry Gordy interview was cool. You don't think of Stevie and Marvin as risky business.
I watched you and Tavis struggle as yall reflected on the untimely death of Marvin Gaye. My song, 'Always Yesterday (And Never Long Ago)' is my attempt to musically relate to those painful events. Enter BertGriffin88 and 21 of my original songs will become available. Take a listen, hopefully it provides some solace. You might also listen to my song, '(Obama's Song) Waiting So Long'.
His way of talking reminds me of his son - Redfoo from LMFO <3

Great music. Too bad Berry ripped off every artist he ever worked with.
