We've had that sad experience twice. It never seems possible, but we've been able to love Maggie, Gracie, Rex and Libby equally, completely, but in different ways. We're glad that our movie shows the Westie breed to be essentially a breed of "Happy Fun Dogs." Westies Forever!!

Please learn from my mistake! Katie had a g8 life until she passed on,aged 16 but when Sammy,her Male friend stayed,she absolutely loved it as they went round together and had g8 fun the whole day.He kept her Young and active 'til the end!

Now I have 4 to compensate! lol

My Katie,aged 16 died 2 years ago.Wonderful pet,my first.Within 3 days I got 3 more(came as a "pack" lol) and Sammy my ones "Dog Partner" now lives with me as the owner saw how brilliantly he bonded with the other 3....Please,please do NOT get just "one"..2 is great as they play and live together as companions and friends.

Great video, i've seen it alot of times now...just like bizzy i am also in the process of getting a westie but i havent decided to get a male or a female westie. What's the difference in character? Both genders have worked well for us. We chose Rex from 4 boys because he watched his brothers jump on us, then approached and cuddled into our laps.

Libby is a little aggressive to girl dogs when she meets them in the park, especially the ones that make sudden moves at her. The female is usually the alpha dog.

Both dogs have been good with kids. That has just as much to do with our obedience training than a natural character trait.

Obedience training is a must either way. Good luck.

Did you have much trouble bringing Libby in to Rex's territory? cos i have a male westie named Jack he's the spitting image of your Rex even the experessions in his eyes are the same but hes really territoral he doesnt like any dogs being on his space hes fine outside just not on his turf so to speak

Libby arrived when Rex was only 9 months old - so he didn't have too much time to become territorial. Further, as warned by our breeder, the girl dog immediately became dominant. I don't know how that'd work with an older male dog, but it was true for Libby and Rex.
