But as a matter of science, you're right, you don't have to disprove that God created the universe, you just have to be able to prove what did.
If not, you don't have scientific ground to say God didn't create it, even though you think the idea is silly.

But my point is simply that without evidence either way, religion and atheism are both systems of belief. One is based on custom, tradition, and hope; the other is based reasoned assumption.

I said if MY definition is God as the force that created the universe (which Judeo-Christine doctrine claims) then my "proof" of God is the universe. You could argue that force is random or fiction, I could argue otherwise, still theories.
And 'rational' physicists are currently looking for an atomic particle they've nicknamed the "God Particle" they hope will explain physics inconsistencies.
