hey everyone, lets not forget the xj220 which set the production car speed record in 92. it was a v6. 3.5l putting up mid 500 bhp, twin garret t3 turbos. if im not mistaken that is the same turbo on the Buick GN and my grampas GN puts out over 320 hp to the wheels at 12 pounds i think. so what im saying is that you can get a engine to do what ever the fuck you want to it as long as you got time and very deep pockets. hell, look up the 1000 hp v6 GN on youtube, prime example.
those numbers are to the wheels, and im sorry but you dont losee 100hp thru the crank. and not exactly. you can still do anywhere from 21-26mpg maybe even 28. it all depends on how aggressive you drive. if youre trying to spool thru all gears, then yes economy will be horrible. you take it easy, mpg will be decent for the hp youre producing
@96pontiacbird Then maybe you should pay for my tuition to my school. The school I go to is Ranken. they are in the top ten for best automotive programs in the US. If you swap in bigger injectors and taller gears. Sorry your fuel economy is gonna drop. Yeah an T-56 is gonna get you slightly better fuel economy because of you have two extra gears and you have control over your shifts. I have a friend with a 94 RS M6 that has 400+rwhp and he gets about 22mpg but that is only hwy city is more 14
@96pontiacbird If the 3.8L is getting 400hp to the wheels with only 15psi then my LT1 full bolt on and a lot of head work done would be pushing 700 to the wheels. I don't see how you can say a 3.8 is getting that much power when they can't even beat a LS1 with bolt ons
@Smokie420ish lol fuel economy isnt even the argument here. if you have that type of money to spend on either car, im sure youre not concerned with economy. and ive seen a video around here with a 3.8 maro on only 6psi hang with a bolt on T/A. if you want to turbo an ls1, at 7 psi you can get up to 480 and at 13psi 510. these are mere estimates, but you get the point.
@96pontiacbird are you talking about this one? Just fyi bud not being a prick or anything about it but don't always believe what ppl put on here. Ppl tend to lie about things. Also if the 3.8L had gears it would have helped it's launch.
@96pontiacbird unless your doing a bunch of head work like bigger valves, P&P job, heads milled over .004 to raise the CR, and a new 5 angle valve job.
@FordGTmustang2000 It is not how many valves but the surface area of the valve and the angle of the valves is how well an engine will respond to boost.
@xxxXW4NT3DXxxx my mustang is stock and if this v6 camaro was stock it wouldnt stand a chance and the z28 would maybe pull a car or 2 on me if it was stock lol boost me at the same psi as the V6 and im walking both cars easily
@xxxXW4NT3DXxxx the difference in weight i already took xare of in my camaro i dont belive a six weights less than mine. its cooler to have a turbo ls1 running low 11s. dont get me wrong tho i think a turbo v6 is badass.
@vflskulangel. the difference between the z28 and the v6 is unbelivable dont talk if you dont own one and ofcourse if you put a turbo on a v6 it will be fastr than a stock v8 its called adding 100-150 hp to the engine.
@ElVatoVerga and our sixxers weigh less. What is more amazing, a turbo v6 or stock ls1. hmmmm the turbo v6. Is it cooler to have a stock ls1 running mid 13's or a turbo v6 running high 12's. hmmm turbod six again. Dont talk unless you are worth making an argument.
@ElVatoVerga It depends on how much boost you are adding to the engine plus you have to adjust for turbo lag. To be adding 100-150hp then you would possible be pushing around 17psi with these 3.8s
@Smokie420ish actually, at only 15psi, you can expect hp to be around 400 and 460 for torque. considering we have about 180 to the wheels give or take, youre looking at an increment of about 200hp. of course, you need upgrades of atleast 255lph fuel pump and 60lb. injectors, along with the right tune.
@96pontiacbird Yeah maybe to the engine but not to the wheels. To the wheels more like 300. But still if your gonna run 60 ilbs injectors there goes all fuel economy out the window.
@Smokie420ish ik people with m6 trans ams pushing 450hp and still getting 21mpg. and thats an ls1....these 3.8s can push up to 32mpg. like i said it all depends on how you drive the car.
your a moron. For one its a lot faster. For two try passing someone on the highway going thirty miles faster than the other guy its pretty fast. If you have to go 30 mph faster you need a different car brother.
@1997pontiacse How I'm I a moron when I have experience with both cars? Be sure to come back when you have some and your not judging your experience based on what you see on need for speed shift.

If that z28 was a LS1 then the v6 did damn good, V8's are where it's at but i love something different and those 3.8L's have a lot to offer.

@zraffz im sure you can get a v6 to hit 8000hp with enriched nitro. anything is possible
