  • wow

  • If you've had the flu, you understand how he's feeling.

  • can you say traumatizing? hey look this guy has a life threateningly high fever. I KNOW. lets throw him in a bathtub of ice water and hold him down while he screams from the hallucinations he is probably having along with the delirium from the fever lol.

  • Having had an early experience in the hospital which was extremely painful and confusing, I can relate to this. Having one's body being overwhelmed with pain that can't be escaped is terrifying, especially when the people around are saying that they're only trying to help you.

  • 'You're killing me' Amazing line.

  • I love this movie because it is so fucking weird. I had this done to me when I was 4 years old. Like Jake, I had a life threatening fever (mine was 107!!!) My first memory is being frozen. When I have nightmares? They are always about ice. My dreams always have water. Weird part? I love cold weather!

  • God I can't even imagine how much that would fukin suk. Everytime I get a High fever I feel insanely cold to the point where I won't even get out from under my covers.

  • awe haah tim is fuckin 6`5 ! daamn haha i loved this movie 10/10 :D

  • I think the thing about Jacob's Ladder is that it doesn't have any monster. It's his head that's the big bad. And what's scarier: A great big monster coming to eat you, or having visions that terrify the life out of you as you realise you're slowly dying?

  • I live in Texas and it was 110 not that long ago and they made my big brother do this because he was mowing lawns and got overheated. Does it really hurt that bad?

  • This movie stays with you for a while so weird and depressing

  • why they did that ?

  • @METROIDROCKSXP98 to keep him from dying from high fever. It can happen. If your temperature is way too high, u won't be able to make it even if they call 911; so that's the reason why they dumped him into a tubful of ice. not an exactly safe thing to do, but better than leaving him to die from overheating; it's a risk they have to take to ensure his safety. I'm actually surprised that a lot of people seem mortified by this: i had to do this a lot as a kid, saved me from dying, lol

  • All that cold and ice can put him into shock woow.

  • Love this film. Shakin heads scare the shit outta me! I've done a video called 'Writhe' on my channel which contains a shaking head and other weirdness. Have a look at it if you have time!

  • Such nice demons, he has a fever and they all pitch in together to bring it down!

  • Their freezing him... then their going to freeze me!

    OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

  • I got a fever... and the only prescription is more cowbell... Or assloads of ice

  • and then i... jizzed in my pants!

  • I always viewed this scene as an allusion to Dante's inferno where the devil is looking at people in hell who are trapped in ice, but the idea that holding jacob down in ice gives me another route to go with the scene! Great ass movie because its all left up to interpretation.

  • @exit284

I did too! I didn't think anyone else would. I guess It's a Literature major thing. What a stirring observation! :)

  • for some reason this movie always freaked me out and ive seen movies a hell of alot worse then this one....weird but true

  • That Elizabeth Pena was one hot piece in this flick...

  • This is the worst thing you could do to someone running a very high fever. The cold water will make the body think it's freezing and therefore it will INCREASE it's own temperature even more in order to warm it back up. It works temporarily but in the end It just has the opposite effect. Awesome movie though.

  • I'm not a doctor but i don't see how the ice thing would help..

  • 1:26 what are u doin..? :DDDD

  • Tim Robbins is a freaking giant. Do you guys see how tall he looks compared to Elizabeth? FUCKING HUGE. And she's probably about 5'2, the average height of a woman. HOT!

  • Fucking febreze ad ruined everything.

  • Being put in a bathtub full of ice when you have a 106 temperature would feel like absolute torture. "Stop, you're killing me!" (Shudder)

  • eh what they doin to him. Dont understand

  • @2TWISTEDBALLS he's sick for some reason and has a 106 fever or something like that, he could die if his temp. doesn't come down. so they put him in a bathtub with ice to cool him off.

  • @gammaglobulin78 actually a fever can't kill you, just the sickness that causes a fever. People bring down a fever to reduce suffering in an ill person.

  • @pivotman64 i thought a really high fever could fry your brain?

  • @adripantsonfire Yes, you are correct. Anything above 104 will starting frying brain cells, and is considered life-threatening.

  • @timechangesnothing okay, yeah. i thought so. thanks for confirmation.

  • Thismovie is amazing. I saw it so long ago, yet remember it . I wish I could see it again....

  • "Honey! Jimmy has a temperature of 106!"

"Oh tell him to quit being a pussy. He'll be fine"

  • I wish my girlfriend would also throw me into a bathtub full of ice

  • @FractalBolt so you're penis looks small?

  • First time I saw this movie I was detoxing hard from painkillers. Movie horrified me which is why I loved it and still do.

  • High fever? Ice cold bath? No thanks!

  • @1moe7 would u rather suffer brain damage?

  • @trufiend138 probably. that is way too shocking

  • Ahhha. GOD DAMMIT, HONEY, ITS TIME FOR YOUR FUCKING BUBBLE BATH, YOU DUMB TWAT!

  • Elizabeth Peña is so hot

  • Is he really tall or is she so short? Or both? oO

  • @DrKirath hes really that tall, hes 6 feet 2

  • @Hrko1992 He's 6'4. He's a giant. Like basketball tall.

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU STARED AT HER TITS

  • the look on their faces makes it even scarier..

  • Is that Kyle gass at 1.58? I know he is in this movie but wasnt sure if that was him.

  • God dammit, why couldn't it be a female lead....

  • was it really that necessary to take his boxers off?

  • @funkyjim No, but as long as they did remove the shorts, why couldn't we get a glipmse of what he's been slippin to Susan Sarandon all dese freekin years?

  • Interesting thing to note...this movie is purely psychological. Hallucinations and damn near insanity. Practices in old days for "curing" one's insanity were ice baths. The idea behind them was to "shock" someone back into sanity.

  • @aquaguy322 You got this one wrong I think. Wasn't the ice bath recommendation made to bring down his very high fever?

  • @Loejyrrab Yeah you're right. I just recalled the ice baths were to help cure psychological illnesses as well.

  • @AmyLeefan01 he is slowly dying in real life but living inside a dream..

  • Let's talk about shrinkage, now!

  • @GilliannotGilligan Yea, a guy could be totin big lumber but under those conditions, ice bath, all the neighbors and everything, it probably shrunk to a mushroom cap size. Poor dude!

  • he swallowed sum mercury

  • that woman's got some nice tits

  • Holy crap. the music used in the last 30 secns is the intro for Suffocations Souls to Deny! Brutal!

  • that girl was a hottie so i give it a thumbs up ^_^

  • that would TOTALLY suck to have all your neighbors seeing you there like that.

    think of the SHRINKAGE

  • @zx6rtt made me laugh :')

  • she had nice boobies

  • @eratosphenes: Agreed.

  • @AmyLeefan01 He had a very high fever. Jezebel (Elizabeth Pena) put him in a cold bath to bring the fever down.

  • "ITS WORKING MOOOOOOOOOOOORE ICE!" "GETOFF CRAZY PEOPLE"

  • Kinda reminds me of the 'drowning' ending from silent hill homecoming but without the fever

  • pulling your damn pants down, what does it look like?

  • "what's it say?"

    "gone to the top!!!"

    ".....kay"

  • Why the fuck would you drench him in freezing water and ice cubes if he was running a fatal fever? I realise it's just a movie, and a damn good one at that, but holy fuck the water will kill him before the fever does.

  • @away1nspace

You're right, putting someone in freezing cold water "could" cause them to go into shock when they have a severe fever but you also have to realize, this movie was set in Brooklyn back in 75.

Emergency response wasn't as sophisticated as it is now, You were lucky to have an ambulance arrive within 30 minutes or more. Jacob's brain was about to sizzle.

His girlfriend and neighbors probably thought they had no choice but to break his fever as quickly as possible with ice (Brrrr!).

  • @tropicat Technicalities, Technicalities :)

  • @away1nspace Hey, I didn't think of that. You're right.

  • wait Alex sheperd from Silent Hill ; Homecoming was a soilder coming back from war, kinda like Jacob?

  • Well... you really outta play Homecoming.

  • @METALmARiOKID91 well alex wasnt really a soldier was he now

  • @LUCCARDI Don't spoil it for him now :D he might not have got that far to realise that :P I got the ufo ending on my first playthrough :/ it annoyed me

  • good fucking movie

  • TIM ROBBINS IZ HOT !!!!!!!!!!

In this movie Bull Durham and more

  • Tim ass is so hot and sexy x

  • 1:58 kyle gass of tenacious d

  • No shit, huh? Never noticed that. Has that dude ever had hair?

  • I'M FREEZING!

    :(

  • what is this movie about cause it looks awesome

  • this is the inspiration for silent hill

  • Both are great films.

I saw Jacob's Ladder as a teen in the theater on a lonely weekday afternoon, and it made quite the impression. Still one of my favs to this day.

  • @Revenantspecter Why do you say?

  • @Revenantspecter indeed and a beautiful interpretation it was

  • @Revenantspecter Not really. It was mainly just one scene and this isn't that scene.

  • @PandaRiot4496 its about a vietnam vet who starts getting violent hallucinations and tries to find the cause.....................haha i just realized u posted this 2 months ago, so uve prolly already seen it

  • Ahaha well he's 6'5.

  • tim robbins is 6'5 so he would tower ova alot of ppl. She is the same height as most females, when ur tall it makes othas look like midgets.

  • what is this part supposed to symbolize?

  • Possibly the deepest layer of hell depicted in Dante's Inferno: a lake of ice where people are forever stuck in, ranging from the waist up to your eyes, depending on the severity of the sin you've committed.

  • the neighbours are very kind to hold a man to his will i a bathtub full of ice..

i wish my neighbours did that for me :/

  • @jamesupjimmy hahahahaaa!!

  • @jamesupjimmy yeah. in a section 8 apartment, they'd hang around the hall to make sure you die so they can take your shit before the ambulance arrives

  • That would suck if your friends did this to you in the middle of the night.

  • He has a 106 and fever...he was overheating.

  • I didn't mean it like that. I was talking as a prank.

just grab you outta bed. perfectly normal. not sick.

threwe you in cold water and started throwing ice in.

  • welll...I like the scene and want to see the movie, but weird reson to take an icebath?

  • could you please upload, if possible, the scene following on from this with the dog, the doctor telling him he is lucky and the splice with the airlift in Vietnam? what a wonderful composition!

  • it's really nice that his neighbors willingly helped, but it made me question whether -- almost 20 years later -- "neighbors" of today would do the same. I don't like being cynical, I guess I just have little faith that people within my building would help me...hopefully, I'm wrong.

  • I know. I suppose because it's a close knit apartment complex it's different, but I would count on my own neighbors for shit.

  • you know, that could explain some things. a fever that high can give you brain damage, and thus, hallucinations?

  • i didnt get this.. at all

  • tim robbins is a big guy

  • which part... :D

  • That's such a creepy scene. I just got goosebumps.

  • bathtub scene = SH homecoming drowning ending?

  • oh yeah

  • Damn it, I was drinking some Coke WITH ICE IN IT while I was watching this.

  • Damn when I read this all I could think about is how fucking refreshing that sounds. A coke with ice...it's the simple things in life that makes me happy.

    11:06 pm, August 7th, 2009

  • Totally man! I think that all the time :D

  • this reminds me of the time i was 5 i came down with life threatnin flu i remember my chest felt like it had a spike rammed through it and my body temperature was like i wasin a sauna my mum foned the doctor and he said to my mum put me into a bath of freezin water until the doctor got there

  • I don't get this scene?

  • it's pure pain, simply

  • he thinks everyone is trying to drown him.
