i love how you sigh at the end :') ive never had a horse bolt, but i have had a horse think it was time to go home in the middle of canter through a field and try n go through a bush...
My horse bolted with me on her back today too! I was totally not expecting it and it was really scary! She couldn't go far though because we were in a barn, but all the same, its not fun. But circling her really helped to keep her from doing it again!
I hate it when that happens but she did really well to stay back on. the same happened to alot of us the other day wen we went on a 2 hour hack they were so fresh and it was so windy being the beginning of winter and all. It felt soo good to let them go at the end and have a good gallop sometimes its just what they need
Well riden! That happen to me yesterday, scariest ride ever. Found that circling him in tighter and tighter along with not pulling on my inside rein for a brief moment then pulling back HARD worked really well. You can never outpull a horse so that technique + circling will help get their attention back on you faster. But hopefully it won't happen again to either of us!!
your commentary is literally exactly what i think when something like that happens, first shock, then you make a rather weak sounding joke "you're going to jump the fence at this rate" (while thinking actually it could happen) and then when the friend is confirmed as alive, you laugh, happened the other day to me!
That happened to me today! I lost my stirrups and the horse I was on was goin to run into really big rocks! Thank god he didn't jump them!! I hope ur alright after that , it is very scary and annoying
my horse does that too, she runs to werever her friends are. and what i did was let her pick two spots she liked to blot to, then take her between them over and over again until she figured out i wasnt gunna let her stop at either point lol! it took me weeks!
your friend was brave, last year a horse i was trying out to buy bolted off with me, and i had to bail as he was getting dangerous i.e running into hedges and stumbling everywhere, and i cut my face up so bad D:
good riding :) maby try turning in circles realy tight,. literately grab the top of the reins and bend there neck, it works with mine, i know its harsh but I have only had to do it 3 times and hes gave up hop of bolting :)
yeh you can do that but if you make them turn and they bounce then you're more likely to fall off, obviously if you're out in a large open space then you don't have much choice lol! but if you're in a feild then they'll stop eventually, theres just less chance of them bouncing and you falling off but i see your point and i know beth and holly and shes a speedy little pony lol x
Good riding, any horse can bolt when they feel like it, even the laziest. I know your not thinking straight when it happens, but next time, she should try to do large circle and gradually get smaller if it happens again, and not pull back too tight on the reins, but well done for staying on. I had a welsh cob on loan last year that bolted quite a lot to begin with x
@kitston yea, she used to bolt ALOT this is the first time in.. well ages. and okay ill tell my friend :D but holly wanted to go up to the top of the firld because thats where the stables and her friends were so i think she just thought hmm ill just gallop up here and it will be the end of the ride, score! but ohh she was very wrong ;) hehe, thanks for the nice comment xx
i know, when i rode my loan pony (who bolted pretty frequently) when i came into a field i always told mysef "turn her if she bolts", but when they actually bolt your in as blind panic and just sit there helplessly! well it was like that for me anyway :0
my loan pony (sorry ive been going on about her havent i? :/ soz i just miss her :( D ) anyways. um her real owner's daughter was riding her bareback with justa headcollar and leadrope and she took off for no apparent reason and the owner got dragged along the ground!!!!! :0 :0 :0 but she was fine justa little wet from the dewy grass :)
the girl did very well (she was four; the pony was 14.1) she stayed on for abouit 15 seconds :0 !! but fell off she was fine :D just VERY wet!
This happened to me the other day- scariest bolt ever :( xx

You shouldn't have pulled on the reins soo much :/It confuses her and makes her bolt even more :) But still very good riding!
