As I'm sure you're very aware, every catty would-be actress or director loves to leave scathing criticism despite the fact most of their egos are bigger than their talent. Don't let anything convince you otherwise - this is a good number. It's not "professional", but not every cast has the option of a young Tisha Campbell. Frankly, this is better than quite a few versions I've seen.
The performance itself is not bad at all. What people seem to have a problem with is that it's not true to the original show in that it's not as personal. But your obviously not performing the whole show, so I don't see the problem all that much. You're just performing the songs, not the show.
Everyone has their opinions, and my opinion on this is that you all did very well. Some people don't realise how hard it is to get up on stage and sing, we're doing little shop of horrors at my school and im playing Mr Mushnik (and im a girl) haha im looking forward to it but it'll be a challenge!;-)
I know excatly what this person is tyring to say about no soul. where is the voice? where is the emphasism on the voices? there not strong enough. the voices are yet to simple. this show isnt a cabert fancy show its a depth dramatic show, with strong characterization, less of the ensmble in this scene and focus on the principal girls.
well i dont care what other people here think, i was very impressed, its well put together, i'm a musical theatre student myself and this was great. keep up the good work guys xD ignore the haters, they're just jealous cos they dont have the courage to go up on stage and do what you guys have done :) in musical theatre you're always gonna get a big ol' bunch of bitches xD it's like some kinda unwritten law or something xD
At the beginning it's sort of hard to understand the lyrics, even though we all know what they are. Also the whole time it is VERY cluttered and sometimes the main actors get drowned out.
I agree with all the comments below. This is yet another crappy production of "Little Shop" on YouTube. And besides, where's the prologue? I'm auditioning for "Little Shop", and from watching several amateur productions of this show, it makes me wonder if the theatre group I'm auditioning for is going to do a great job. Obviously, it's not going to be perfect, but still. It probably won't have a cast as big as this one, though, since we have a smaller stage, but that's perfect for this show.
well....i did this show about a month ago and we had a proper chorus and i think that a chorus does work, but i think there are two many in this version. It works if i just listen to it, but it looks a bit crowded on stage.
the idea behind crystal ronnete and chiffon singing here is there the only ones who really know whats going on there omnipotent the whole cast singing takes away from that
in mii skool we are doin this musical but we're doin alot betta I mean most of the song is supposed 2 b sung bi 3 girls but when the 3 girls are supposed 2 b singin most of the cast iz... i'll have the musical posted in like march of 09
it wasnt that easy on the ears, for a musical theatre diploma performance i was quite disappointed. Not the best songs for this group, do you have any material that you think would chnage my mind?
Just for the record, the performance is from a cabaret featuring numerous musicals, hence the number of people. We weren't actually staging the full show.
The problem with Little Shop is that it's designed for a very small cast, which just isn't possible in a school or college environment. There's 5 parts and 3 chorus parts. The actors are ''doubled-up'' for the other parts in professional productions.
The show doesn't just suit having a massive ensemble performing every number, but there's nothing you can really do about it.
"You put in your eight hours for the powers that have always be?" I'm pretty darn sure it's "You put in your eight hours for the powers that have always been."
The singing is too "pretty". It doesn't have any soul behind it, and little shop is about soul. This wasn't very good for a college production. Sorry, it didn't do it for me.
I mean that it sounds too choral, and not "poppy" enough. I've worked with vocal directors before that want this classical sound in a modern musical theater production, and it just doesn't work. That's what this sounds like to me. Sometimes you just have to let go and sing! Work on technique in class, and perform on stage.
Very interesting staging (I like it very much) Interesting concept to place the band upstage center , so that they are integral with the performance - rather than using a scrim, or having them in the pit. Excellent choreography too. Break a Leg!!
Hey need this version of the Little Shop Song (shorter) to rehearse the dance routine we've put to it (EEEK simultaneous dancing and singing in 3 part harmony). Anyone know if I can lay my hands on just that song, that version on Youtube?
We did it with a chorus...and it worked so well...then a wee reprise with the singers...IT DEFINITELY WORKED...one of the best versions of the show to have been performed in Edinburgh in years supposedly...and it's usually done a few times a year...especially in the festival!
Hi. I'm performing this just now - our chorus is fantastic! You can't just make sweeping statements like that. There's a difference between fact and opinion mate.
No. It has nothing to do with the video. Your user name caught my attention because I LOVE Sweeney Todd and it said a 98 right after it so I guess I assumed you were 10. Srry! I didn't mean to offend you if I did.
I feel like the beginning is a little too contrived for my taste also a little too slow-- however the chorus sounds great.
I could see how someone (ahem EvanOz85) would say that this show is not a Chorus show -- but my high school is doing it with 16 people as apposed to the normal 8 and i can't even imagine it with 8 people -- eek! I almost wish we had more people in the cast. But for the purposes of a Cabaret night as yours is i think it works well!

In Skid Row when Seymour and Audrey are singing their part together with the ensemble singing something else, it was difficult to hear Seymour in Audrey, they were a bit drowned out. It's a common thing with a large ensemble. But overall it was well done, voices were good, and very enjoyable.
Thankyou for the positive comment! Me and Audrey were mic'd so, the only thing i can think of is that the camera was set in front of the speakers and didnt them up as well!
did i just see a nun there too?

There is too much going on on the stage.
Harmonies were off in spots, especially at 2:29. Whomever that is, is screaming and is flat and off-key.
And, where is Audrey. I hear her singing but never see her.?????
I give it a one. Sorry, guys. E for effort, though.

@Digi311 omgosh ur right. i saw this at a comunity theater about a year ago and it was MUCH better than this. And they only had a cast of ten!!!!

i get that youre not doing the full show
i've done something like that before
a revue of a bunch of shows
but some of the singers just need soul.
subtext.
emotion.
even if you dont stage the show still have the character with you.

Bare in mind some people who do musical theatre are not great at singing. Some dance well, some act well, some sing well, and some do all three.
At National Diploma level, you cannot audition applicants.
