Hi, I am from Trinidad in the Caribbean. I have my interview on the 18th if this month. I have noticed most interview advice is geared only toward questions being asked BY the interviewer (which given, should be the main focus) however, my plight is really what questions should I as the nterviwEE ask them...
Any pointers? I'll truly appreciate any suggestions.
You were saying that it's not exactly to weed you out, but I was wondering do you know how many people from the interview process get offered a spot in Japan?
But if you make it to the interview portion, you have a very good chance - altho a bunch of American applicants got put on the alternate list this year as well.
I got the good word day before yesterday that I was selected for an interview. I still haven't been contacted personally to set up a date... I've noticed in the comments on your vlog and some other forums around the internet that some people already know the dates of their interviews. Do you think I should be concerned that I haven't received word yet? And how do they ordinarily go about contacting applicants to set up interviews?
I believe there are two things that prospective applicants should be aware of when going into the interview and that includes: geopolitical events and a knowledge of your own country. They are interconnected, but the latter I think is very important - IMO
Jason, my birthday is in eleven days and I am hoping that I get to the Interview Stage. It would be a great birthday present...we should all know more soon.
Hmm I'm still working on getting my degree and will be applying for 2010 JET. Do you have any advice as to how someone should build their resume? For example should I go crazy with community service or something?
As much as I would like to believe that "As long as you're not a crazy person, you will be fine", I'm afraid that this year the competition would be more fierce than ever. Not only are many ALTs recontracting (due to the bad economy here), the demand for ALTs in general has also decreased. Nonetheless, it is still comforting to know that as long as I be myself and give sensible answers, I will have a good chance of getting in. Thank you as always for the helpful tips!
It's true that the number of JETs is decreasing, but there is still plenty of chances for the right candidates. After all, someone has to take my place... :)
lovely advice in this one, I think the advice you give at the start with how the job is yours to lose with the interview, will help put me in the right frame of mind (if I get to the interview haha). great video, and loads of help!
Turned out fine - nowhere near as bad as I was expcting. The people interviewing me were really friendly and I made them laugh talking about marmite, so that was a plus. just the waiting game now!
haha.. 'hi, i'd like to go to japan"

yep - Irishwars is correct. That's the HP corner. I have another corner with Sumo stuff on the walls and another with Superman/Batman stuff.

teaching experience is good - peer tutoring in the library/writing lab, working with kids at a camp or school, anything teaching others is good.

Don't worry - when I'm elected Governor of Shimane in a landslide victory, I'll still make time for the people that got me there... LOL
