If you're looking for a straight answer, Obama gave it about 3:50. There are ALREADY private entities competing WITH the government that DO pay local taxes, property taxes, etc. Look no futher than postal service. My town is dependent on one of them.

He just showed that government intervention in anything business or economy related ends up in disaster. Private sector didn't screw up the VA or Medicare. The governement did.

In the real world if a company makes serious mistakes it gets smaller or closes its doors. The government, on the other hand, only gets bigger.

- The Entity running the public option would be automonous from the government in that it will have to raise its own capital, rather than be subsidised by the government
