Very Nice Work Doug. I'm a Brazilian drummer too and your samba sounds very good to me. The way you play here would sound very nice at a great open space. In a small bar you could do the same with brushsticks I suppose. The accents at the snare are very dynamic to me. I got the samba "fell" spot on! Thank you for the great samba lesson. I'll study it at home!
this is more of a bossa than samba, man. Samba is more polyrhytmic, the bass drum plays something completely different and it has to be way more dynamic.
Thanks for the response and feedback. Thats it why i describe it as "quasi" Brazilian. Perhaps you could submit a video response of yourself playing it and you can enlighten all of us.
Arent you English? Your sense of humour is like that..:)
Yeah, it would be the best if I just uploaded something, but the fact is that i cant play proper afro cuban rhytms with the right feel, the only one i can play is bossa and i am learning right now how to do the samba, mambo, rhumba and others. AND i do not have a camera AND the drums i have to play home are really cheap electronic drums. But maybe one day i can take someones camera to our rehearsal studio, until then, i shut up.
@Wassergrab Hi guys. So I don't hate anyone here. Let's face it. There will always be someone better than I am and someone worse. Just play because you love it!!
That being said, if you are going to give a bunch of feedback on how a certain beat should be played have the integrity to post an example to back it up. Otherwise your words are moot.
@TheJulio3222 I wasn't talking about the guy in the video...besides you already responded to me....amazing how people learn to type when they don't know how to read.

Sure it does. Bossa Nova came about in the 50s and sixties as a combination of jazz, samba and unique vocal lines and harmonies. The samba rhythm is very close to the Bossa, Much of the Bossa nova style of drumming came as a cross between jazz and interpreting samba rhythms on a drumset. But since you wrote "boss" maybe you meant The Boss, Bruce Springstein, in which case you're right. He has nothing to do with Samba :P
I prefer it to 1 + and a because i like the sylabant sound of the t's in my mouth as I count quiesly. But either counting system works. I just try as much as possible to encourage my students to ba able to count while they play and read.
you are so right. This is one of my teaching kits and it gets played 20 hours a week. As you can imagine i play these heads until they break because I am a broke drum teacher. I am glad that my sound made you laugh out loud.
