Just think if we had a few ships just as powerful as this. Just think what they could do when it came to battles such as iwo jima and normandy. They'd do quite a bit.
My Dad just died at age 90. He was in this war. He was a Marine on Guadalcanal. He watched the Japanese sink most of the U.S. fleet at Savo Island. He and the other Marines were abandoned for two months. Had to live on captured rice.
Note quite. the 406cm gun on the iowa had a large higher velocity round with excellent armor penetration ablity. The iowa had less armor but it was much higher quality steel. The iowa had radar fire control. In battle they would be quite equal except the iowa would score more hits due to the better fire control.
In armor penetration ablity the 406cm gun on the iowa it was comparable to the japanese 460cm gun. The armor on the iowa although thinner and lighter was higher quality steel, could withstand nearly as much of an impact as the iowa's. In a battle between the iowa and yamato they would probably be equal in most respect. Except that the radar fire control would give the iowa a decisive advantage in accuracy.
This boat was quite a powerful ship for it's class, in fact the most powerful during world war 2, assuming that Aircraft carriers never existed, this would have been owning othere classes of warships. seriously, it's very powerful, blame it on the obsolute AA technology then, Imagine it has mounted sam site on it back then. OMG
PLEASE tell me this video is available with english subtitles....
And yes, bebe, you're the perfect example of what an idiot is. Just look at your name for christ's sake, only fools and asses use the old name/number combo. "lol, I R tehleet3525, m3 pwns U"
The boat belongs to the bottom of the ocean anyway, unlike the Bismarck which got a chance to fight the last battle like a battleship, Yamato is like a lion got stunk to dead by bees on it's way to a fight, it's a shame, and quite a pathetic way to down. American did the right thing to sink it before it try to redeem some sort of last moment glory for the imperial navy, well done yanks!
haha, no need to get personal on this, is not like you designed or built the ship. It's amusing to see you trying to show your "expertise" in these subject... come on, spend more time out in the real world and get a life, or a girl friend.
It just a big ship, with obsolete technologies, nothing more to it. A big coffin for those who sailed it, suicidal mission that yielded nothing but a slaughter of their own sailers, commanders were bunch of nuts that couldn't come up with any good tactics, they deserved to die and lose the war.
See this is bullshit. Japanese had great optical sight but they didnt have radar controlled fire control. all of the iowas class guns could be controlled together or seperatly by one man and a computer who as long it had the blip on the radar it would fire all the guns at the same place in synch. The yamato would not stand a chance.
in post war test on Yamato class armour, it demonstrated that the US 406mm/L50 gun can penetrate Yamato armour.
on the otherhand, Japanese battleship gunnery is superb. With 460mm gun, and in an one-on-one engagement, I don't think Iowa class will stand any chance.
Dude you lose just like the Real Yamato lost. The most succesful most powerful battleships of all time are the Iowa class. All hail the Battlewagons!
by Iowa's I mean any one of the class. What century are we talking about again? Shells were fired up in the air at a trajectory and plunged down to gain momentum what do you think allowed them to be shot so far? trust me the deck and the superstructure would take the brunt force of an attack not the sides unless you are firing torpedoes.
Do you think aerial bombs are that much more powerful than shells that can blow a crater the size of a football field every time they land? The Iowas and the sodaks would straddle the fuck out of the yamato before she could fire back her turrets would be out of operation they would kill her alot faster than those planes did.
Thats an outright lie. Not only would the New jersey target the yamato first their fire directors would have straddeled with shells before she even knew it was there.
Yes, finally a proper trailer without that horrible song

(what I remember from the subtitles)
at 1:00-1:05, Admiral Ito said "I will not sacrifice the lives of 5,000 men. with no air cover, do you think this will stand a chance of success?"
The guy who briefed them on the operation said,"It's not my decision. The Emperor personally asked about this. 'Have we no more ships?'"
