This is a perfect example of someone who "joins" the military for selfish reasons like money for college assuming that they would never never have to pick up a rifle for any reason other than qualification at the range. Enlisting is a selfless act for your country regardless of your politcal stance or biases. Every Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine, commissioned or not, should always assume that they may go to war during their tour..maybe more than once, even if they join durin peace time.

You can't compare these people to those who fled conscription in the 1960s, who really had no choice. These 'resisters' probably wanted the scholarships and whatnot that accrue from military service. The problem is, a Carpenter doesn't normally have the means nor desire to train a high school kid in carpentry. The U.S. Military does. Fact is, he broke his legal binding contract because he is a coward. He enlisted, volunteered, he was not forced to join the Army. He knew what the situation was, he knew he would go to iraq. PUT HIM IN JAIL!
all soldiers that turn themself into ft. knox or ft. sill get returned to thier units only thoose soldiers stationed in germany get processed out of ft. knox or ft. sill. Ricky clousing and mark wilkerson were both returned to their unit.

i recently moved to the kootenays from phoenix arizona. my dad was born in nelson way back when and he has remained a canadian citizen ever since. he moved to the states as a kid, and he fought for the US in vietnam in order not to be deported. 30 some years later, my family moved here to escape the guilt of living in a country so malicious and deceitful to its own people. we decided we wanted our tax dollars going to health care rather than to fund wars.
