I just saw this movie and its really great! After 20 minutes of the movie, the rest is filmed at this table. The point is that each of these teenagers have a problem and each of them gets made fun of for it. Leo's dad committed suicide, the girl next to him is a drug addict junkie and her moms a hooker, the kid with the beard is bisexual, tobey is a vegetarian and takes prescription pills. This is improv and acting at its best. They just make fun of everyone lol
this makes me respect Leo less, even though i know it may or may not be how he actually was at that age. I really hope he wasnt actually like that though....

I doubt I could sit through the whole movie but the B/W photography of it actually seems good. The sound could be better, the performances aren't bad but it seems they lack foundation(like a good script). Maybe I'd watch the film out of curiosity but i don't know if I'd finish it in one sitting. The editing is too jarring and pointlessly cuts away to nothing.
Regardless of the improvisation DiCaprio is still playing a character. Why assume its a version of himself just because its unscripted? All good actors can improvise. All the 'leo is such an asshole' comments are so strange. Why can't people separate actors from their characters?
@aslanticsea because for some people its hard to separate what they've seen on the screen from a person they have never met in real life, They think what they see is what that person really is in real life. Hence why they loved him Gangs of New York, Titanic, etc etc, then hated him in this Europe film release. Their attention spans are limited to the movie they watch.

Don's Plum isn't actually a movie. It was a workshop basically. all the characters in the movie are the members of the group 'Pussy Pose'.. well this group is the friend circle of Leonardo DiCaprio. they did it just like an 'acting exercise'. it was a film based on minimal script and maximum improvising. they never intended to make it a theatrical release. this movie was shot in 1995-1996.
But after the release of Titanic, when Leo became super-super-star, the director of Don's Plum maybe started smelling Big Bucks. therefore, he decided to release the film. But Leo & Tobey argued that the film shudn't be released coz Leo had portrayed a rude character, and it's release wud affect his image. but the director did not agree. So Leo and Tobey sued him.
Nevertheless, the film premiered in Berlin in 2001.
This is a really brave performance from DiCaprio. He explores a very dislikable character with complete honesty. This scene makes my stomach turn, but the acting is superb.
Omg this has the be one of the most believable dialogs I've ever heard in a movie...eXACTLY how teenagers really act...the words of frustration and defense..and Leo's trying to be cool even though he knows he's being out of line but not admitting to it...this reminds me of ppl i know...I was just looking at all the movies leo was in and think i'm gona have to rent this one!
Rich boy? He is wearing ripped pants...i know you can't see it here but he is. Derek is just an asshole, and maybe even relatively poor. Leo's character is key in the film: he is the only one who speaks his mind throughout the film(when others all go to the bathroom mirror and express their true feelings) he always says things at the table and not very nicely, hence the rudness.
I couldn't even get like 5 seconds in without dying xD "crunchy... just like you" what kind of line is that?
although yes. I can certainly understand why this movie wasn't released in North America, even though it's acting, Leo's character is just a terrible person.

This is a really brave performance from DiCaprio. He explores a very dislikable character with complete honesty. This scene makes my stomach turn, but the acting is superb.

Omg this has the be one of the most believable dialogs I've ever heard in a movie...eXACTLY how teenagers really act...the words of frustration and defense..and Leo's trying to be cool even though he knows he's being out of line but not admitting to it...this reminds me of ppl i know...I was just looking at all the movies leo was in and think i'm gona have to rent this one!

the entire film would be much better without dicaprio, he overdoes the whole tortured rich boy trustafarian role too much.
great film though, brilliantly filmed, the b/w and high contrast is superb.

Rich boy? He is wearing ripped pants...i know you can't see it here but he is. Derek is just an asshole, and maybe even relatively poor. Leo's character is key in the film: he is the only one who speaks his mind throughout the film(when others all go to the bathroom mirror and express their true feelings) he always says things at the table and not very nicely, hence the rudness.
