The Northern versions of the KKK went even farther than Illinois. They went all the way to Maine, so it's not so much of a surprise for you to find such a thing. I'm sure every state had something like them back then.

The Northern versions of the KKK went even farther than Illinois. They went all the way to Maine, so it's not so much of a surprise for you to find such a thing. I'm sure every state had something like them back then.
Nor is it much of a surprise you don't find the Northern KKK and other racist groups(all basically the KKK by any other name) listed in mainstream History books. It's just "the South" after the war in most history books when it was not just the Southern States.

I suspect that, in large measure, it was due to the feeling that Lyndon Johnson (previously a Dixiecrat of the old school) was seen as a traitor to his race when he effectively pushed for civil rights legislation.

Slavery was a side issue that the Confederacy was wrong about, but as for State's Rights they were absolutely correct on by the Constitution.
