  • RHCP is better than Crazy Town no dispute, but guys don't hate on them Butterfly is a sweet song and they OFFICIALLY used this riff and made it into a whole awesome song, and btw for you who say Butterfly is their whole career,it isn't listen to Skulls and Stars,Drowning,Revolving door etc etc, they got many good underrated songs :)

  • I wish there were a long version of the long version...

  • This song is the feeling i get when im with my girl!

  • not the biggest RHCP fan by far, but this is one of the great instrumentals in rock history gotta say

  • Look at all of you! Look at all of you thinking you're big because you can appreciate this and not that "shit Crazy Town track!" Well done, you're incredibly retarded for completely misunderstanding the point of Crazy Town's decision and how it was a SAMPLE (ergo, they were paying their RESPECTS to such an amazing band and track by RHCP). Fucking kids.

  • @TheTako400 I'm pretty sure Crazy Town had Frusciante and Flea's permission to use this in their song too.

When I first heard the Crazy Town song, I thought it was shitty to sample another band. It grew on me, and now I actually like the Crazy Town song.

  • 10 seconds from that song = crazy town's whole career

  • I knew ''butterfly'' had something to do with the peppers but no one believed me!

  • so much

  • the trumpet makes this so that much better.

  • What the fuck, I just got a 4 minute commercial of a metal band on a RHCP song.. HAHAHA

  • Crazy who?

  • why there is trumpet ?

  • @laharl1980 Flea plays the trumpet, maybe he wants to play it in this song...

  • @Salger12 Theres difference between sampling and ripping off. RHCP let crazy town use their sample

  • come my lady come come my lady oops wrong song.

  • So did that Crazy Town rip off RHCP then?

  • @Salger12 Well their song came out 10 years later than "Mother's Milk", so.. do the math :)

  • @Salger12 yep and became a one hit wonder by just taking a little part of red hot chilli peppers.

  • Pretty little ditty...not come come my lady.

  • id had this on my ipod for 3 years and never appreciated it until like 2 days ago. i feel like a jackass

  • @BrucetheG00SE2 same here man

  • dude, this tune is fukin euphoric :P

  • well since i see RHCP didnt take full advantage of the awesome bass riff why not let crazytown do?

  • @luboisfat what? so youre saying just because it doesnt have lyrics they didnt take full advantage? lol wow no wonder that shitty crazy town song was so popular, cause of pea-brains like you

  • the lyrics are almost as good as those in metallica's orion

  • @thecookiemonsterr255 orion's a bloody MASTERPIECE and so is this song

  • i will always love that bass riff. Crazy Town or Red Hot Chili P's i love both of them (:

  • i cant hear when they say Pretty Little Ditty in this song :)

  • Crazy town's version only uses the riff that was originally created by RHCP all the way through their song. Crackers

  • I have been a Chili's fan for years, I have seen them time and time again but they have never played this and it is my favourite song, if you listen to this you can hear exactly where the Chili's are going it has touches of everything in it from Blood Sugar to Californication to By the Way.

A truly amazing song for so many reasons.

  • I won the talent show by singing this song.

  • @Joseph27997

Yup , and your comment is extremely original.

  • instrumental

  • It's probably flea playing trumpet

  • @DaylanSutton I'd bet big money.

  • 32 people don't understand the lyrics of this song

  • is John playing trumpet?

  • @Skaternick911

No, it's Flea... unless it's not one of the 4...

  • @Skaternick911 Flea plays trumpet, actually ;)

  • I love the lyrics of this song...

  • itss likeee ya ima goo do it im go take it allll and be happpy then it like waiiiiitttt waiiiittt whats this over hereee!! hahahaha

  • 2:01 --> 10 seconds of a RHCP song = Crazy Town's total career

  • @ronniemindermusic

Crazy town didn't copy peppers. Peppers gave them right to use their sample. Please next time research before posting nonsense comment

  • @kolewski Yes they did give him permission, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a shitty song, which was the original point of the message. So, it wasn't a lack of research, I believe you simply misinterpreted his comment and then proceeded to act smug for knowing a very unimportant and irrelevant detail of the situation.

  • @littleski5 I'm sorry, I hate to be an asshole on youtube, I think we all just misinterpreted each other and got mad and stuff. So, sorry for the derogatory comment, I do not believe in them as they are against my religionzes.

  • @littleski5 he sounded pretty smug didn't he :)

  • @kolewski uuhhh touchy :)

  • @kolewski so they didn't come up with their own track? many would see that as copying with permission to be honest!

  • My favorite RHCP song !

  • OMG I am sooo shocked because I thought butterfly was a masterpiece and now can't believe they copied the peppers

  • @ronniemindermusic It's called sampling and in fact very widely used. Some consider it stealing - copyright infringement - and want to prohibit it through means of laws. Others see these laws as limits being put on their creative outbursts. Whichever opinion you decide. I can recommend reading up on sampling - just to see how it is used.

  • @CataKlysmiC are you being sarcastic??? :)

  • It haunted me for years that that stupid crazy town song had such an amazing riff but was otherwise so bad. Now I feel vindicated.

  • @whylus so true!

  • @whylus what you mean bad?

  • @kilLphiL280 I mean that the crazy town song is fucking terrible

  • @whylus ahh ok...your true this disgusting crazy town song is fucking terrible!!FOR SURE

  • This track is usually magnificent!

  • ¿Soy la única española que escucha esto?

  • @DCZaragoza gracias...

  • @Supersonica46 // Si

  • @Supersonica46 Epañola quizá, hispanohablante nope! ;)

    Amo a RHCP :3

  • 32 people clearly need to die!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • John is so awesome ..

  • bastardos de crazy town no tienen talento!

  • Crazy Town got the rights to sample the song. It's a sample, not a recreation. I'm not defending the song, but samples are very common in music these (and those) days, even if it's a good song that was sampled into a 'bad' song.

  • Why in God's name is "Piglet born with human head in Guatemala!" a suggetion?

  • If this was a cup of tea, itd be a pretty damn good cup of tea.

  • @DaylanSutton duh...mother's milk always makes good tea!

  • @DaylanSutton Imagine all the people... Living in a cup of tea.

  • @DaylanSutton ha! Its a damnn good cup of tea - with a biscuit. :-D

  • @DaylanSutton a storm in a teacup

  • @DaylanSutton Hell, that would be a storm in a teacup.

  • I like the song Butterfly but Crazy town stole that riff thing from them sooooo badly.

  • Shut the fuck up about Butterfly vs. Pretty Little Ditty. They're both good songs even though one was derived from the other. But just shut the fuck up and pass the fucking joint.

  • I don't respect Crazy Town very much but:

    - most of Jimi Hendrix's songs are covers and noone dimminishes his talent because of it,

    - to have an idea and to properly use this idea makes a huge difference,

    - a little over 500.000 people watched RHCP's original and over 4.000.000 watched the Crazy Town's one

Anyway... respect for RHCH and as someone said in one of the previous comments:

    LOOP ON!

  • Butterfly's a good song

  • I was already writing WTF Crazy Town is 3000 x better than this and ... well, the good chapter passed already, so...Thank god Crazy Town made Butterfly because the riff's awesome but this shit is just shit including the best ever riff few times.

  • I like the music. Is good to the ears, no?

  • i can keep on listening to this music and don't get tired... Loop On

  • I LOVE listen to this! :)

  • Actually Crazy Town's song is not a sample, as a sample is a pre-recorded part right? And they actually play it. So it's ahm, a riff-based song? Or something?

  • Red hot chilly peppers let crazytown use a sample. Artist do that type of shit dumbasses

  • stop with the dissin' really...

try listening to crazy town's 'darkhorse' album, it's really good...

  • Hi, I'm Shifty Shellshock, anyone have any good samples for me to revive my career?

  • This is just amazing. Love it, love it, love it. <3 :-)

  • John Frusciante is God.

  • 2:15 me gusta :)

  • i just watched crazy town and it was just awkward..

  • 2:02 crazytown :P

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, I like both Crazy Town and Red Hot Chili Peppers, you people act like they stole the entire song from them...

  • @2813Jasper They get more credit for music they didnt write is the point.

  • The Chilli's wrote that song for crazy town, they gave them it. >D

  • I dont think anyone has mentioned this so,

    Dat Brass. ;)

  • Comment removed

  • How is crazy town a rip off?? They used one tiny bit from this song, used a completely different beat and added good vocals.

If it was just because of that tiny bit of guitar from this song then why wasn't this as famous..

  • @tuhinb123 because people don't know what good music is

  • @tuhinb123 what tbrew4au said, and that sometimes people don't know it so they just ignore it

  • @tuhinb123 Because it wasn't a single you naive burke!

  • @tuhinb123 Same bass too I believe

not against sampling though. new combinations are good.

  • cant forget flea, that basss line is the tits

  • It's John Frusciante on guitar

  • Its Hillel Slovak on guitar I think, maybe not for this recording i dont know but he created that riff props!!

  • cmon people give flea some credit. they took the guitar and bass, not just guitar

  • Wow, so they actually stolen it from the RHCP, what the fuck..!

  • @bergjasper

Sampling is different to stealing. They'll have got the rights to use it and stuff. Sooo many rappers and RnB producers use sampling, some people use it better than others though, of course!

  • Don't anyone get too much on the higher ground about 'Butterfly', coz RCHP covered 'Higher Ground' on the same album that PLD was on. It was, along with 'Knock Me Down', one of the tunes that got them noticed.

  • Sorry RHCP i love you but Butterfly is best :)

  • @kshitijkumar89 what do you have in your mind?? RHCP created this notes that made famous your "great" butterfly ...¬¬

  • @kshitijkumar89 you serious? They stolen Frusciante's greatness and ruined it with some crap-rap on it...

  • what the fuck.. when I was little I used to listen to crazy town and i was amazed how someone could play the guitar so magically.. i loved RHCP back then as well but I didn't know Mother's Milk, cuz obviously I was born later.. but after a few years I was listening to some RHCP songs and found this one.. and I was like "WHOAAAAA, wait a minute!!! so you saying that they actually stole it from frusciante???" and now I know whose magical fingers those were :D

  • @EnchantingIllusion That is exactly the same with me - I always thought Crazy Town came up with the amazing guitar... I should have known that only Frusciante could come up with something this good :)

  • @orango123 yeah, that's right :):) now I love John even more... if that is possible :D

  • I don't get why people diss Crazy Town for it. You guys act like you're superfans and the guardians of the intergrity of RHCP... but clearly they were fans of it too if they used the riff? It's not like they plagiarised the whole song.

  • i like what crazy town did, thats the way music works. Someone can rework a part of a song to make it stand alone. lest we forget spirits "taurus" look it up! crazy town loved the chilis just like we do!

  • @kubastrobos exactly: someone can rework a part of a song and make it stand alone. But only real musicians can think of and create a beautiful part of music totally by themselves.

  • 20 seconds of a RHCP song, the whole carreer of crazy town

  • @ExecutionerMakyura i agree but which band made that 20 seconds more famous?

    Crazy town

  • @Khanisghen oh common... where is Crazy Town now and where are RHCP?

  • @shid007 thats not what i said, RHCP > Crazy Town

re-read my point and then re-comment

  • @Khanisghen OK, sorry:)

  • @shid007 :)

  • @ExecutionerMakyura LMFAO thats it haha!. hey i wonder, do u know if crazy town asked for permission to use that very short and awesome riff?

  • @JuannabisRoach i think they got permission to sample that part of the song

  • @ExecutionerMakyura for real haha i just realized that

  • Comment removed

  • ive heard the part around 0:52 before on a song or two. Who sampled it?

  • @JustinPlaysBass97 Crazy town-butterfly

  • Don't forget flea, Those rappers Sampled the guitar and the bass, not just frusciante

  • @PRISI0NER0123 You said it! Flea and John demonstrate how great a bass and guitar alone can sound together

  • Czy to nie nutka z crazy town- butterfly?:P

  • @DiamentowaPL nie, crazy town- butterfly to nutka z RHCP- pretty little ditty ;)

  • Still one of the better things the Peppers have ever brought forth

  • mothers milk was released in 89...

  • i think this was john's show off album. he dont like playing flashy anymore so alot of people think he isnt capable of it. but he is very good technically its just he chooses not to show it nowadays and play more laid back. so thats why some fans especailly those new to the early albums think its not him

  • @hell5 stadium arcadium i think was more a show off for John and a good farewell album for him

  • whether you all like it or not, crazy town did a great job using this as sample

  • i miss Hillel

  • This is one of john and flea's first jams

  • Gotta respect crazy town for finding 30 seconds of a chillis song from 1988, looping it and selling 1.5 million records...

  • did john do the guitaring on this song? and if he did what album is it from?

  • @hungrywombat123 John indeed played it, I think the song is based on John's auditioning jam for the band. It's on their 1988 album Mother's Milk :)

  • @hungrywombat123 He did, Mother's Milk. People usually assume MM to be pre frusciante. The sound is a bit different, a bit more hard rock, Faith No More sounding, but the guitar is very Frusciante on some tracks.

  • @MedicineMelanch0ly Love to use Frusciante AS AN ADJECTIVE

  • Do you like this song?

    ..Yeah?

So will you sht the fuck up and enjoy it?

    ..Thanks.

  • Shut the fuck up and listen the music.

  • both songs are good

  • LONG LIVE FRUSCIANTE (and flea, and chad, and.....anthony)

  • They hardly ripped them off, it's 8 fucking notes

  • @CannibalWhirm are u kidding me, its a total rip off note for note.......

  • A band with many hits shaped one song that created ONE hit for Crazytown. RHCP has given birth.

  • I wonder if Crazy Town ever had to face any legal consequences because of ripping this off?

  • @Gamewitzer Crazy Town asked RHCP's permission, and they allowed them to use it

  • @Gamewitzer My brother used to listen to that type of shit and he had the album. Inside it says the writers of each song and Anthony Kiedis and Flea are listed under the only song that ever got played.

  • @Gamewitzer they didnt crazy town asked rhcp for permission and they gave it to them

  • no wonder everyone likes the song butterfly, because it is just rhcp

  • 0:51-1:10 <3

  • Flea and John, you were destined to jam together.

  • Comment removed

  • dat bass

  • Damn I hoped this would be just a touch better, the riff from Crazy Towns shit version was always so catchy, but this song doesn't have a whole lot going for it either.

  • also heard today that butterfly was based upon this song; didn't know that before. I still love the song because of the lyrics. But an original can't be beat ofcourse.

I though find it a sad to hear the riffs not sliding from one to another (at 2:02) because then it sounds like two tracks kicked one after the other. Still a good track though, nothing to complain furthermore, nice one to cruise along the highway on haha.

  • First heard Crazy Town version.

Immediately knew that the sample was from RHCP

  • I love it!

  • I always start my day by playing this song, love it so much, it has a big personality

  • pretty little ditty - 1988

    butterfly - 2001

    to stop all the fuckness

  • @k0stil butterfly was actually 1999
