I had hearns ahead by 2 points. To me Hearns had lost his speed here, not all, but Hearns Jab made the difference. In the 1st couple of rds Hills had a stiff fast jab. Hearns a stiffer more powerful jab just a little slower. Even though Hill never went down, he tasted the power and he knew he couldn't get hit with too many of the right hands and left to body. Every time he opened up that is what happened. This was a closer fight in my eyes, then when I watched it with my friends in 91.
I will say Arguelllo and virgil looks alike and they were gentleman if they beat their opponenst they used to come and great if they lost the fight they did the same now those time are gone there is too much hate and no love for the sport
Very scary to hit an opponent iwht 3-4 in a row of your hardest shots. Punches that would drop almost anyone else... but the guy is unfazed and just keeps COMING AT YOU..
When Hearns gets that wide back in to those power shots, oh crap! That is some major leverage, I give Hills props for taking some of these shots and still standing.
@treetoptop The back is only one small part of the equation for Hearns. He gets his legs, hips, and back into every power shot he throws. Hell, even his jab has some real authority on it. I can't stand guys who paw lazily with their jabs the way most guys do today. It drives me nuts. They need to lash out and hit their opponent with the jab, not just stick it out there, bust 'em up with it. Boxers today need to watch some of Hearns' fights and learn. This is how you punch for real! :)
Shame Hearns didn't finish out the last round in the Leonard rematch in this fashion. Then they would've never let it go to a bullshit draw, maybe. Hard to say when you have such crooked scoring from the judges to begin with...
Big ups to Hill, though. He took some wicked shots from the Hitman and never went down ONCE. Now I see why he was undefeated as a champion up to that point.
Hearns let Hill punch himself out at the beginning of 11 in order to rally over the last half to steal the round. A modified version of the rope a dope.

Great show by Hearns and Hill, despite losing, is a class act.
Well done to both men.

Hill has a chin made of IRON, and a huge heart. HUGE

If Hill had more power, he might've knocked Hearns out. He has shown that he has a better chin than Hearns.

Virgil is a very nice guy. He never complains when he loses and shows respect for his opponents. Wish there were more boxers like him in the States.
