  • Rather than modify the servo could I just use a regular motor?

  • @MarkZanon1 No. Not enough torque to move switch. The servo is geared.

  • thank you man, I just built my own useless machine thanks to this video. :)

  • It is possible to use a Windscreen wiper motor for it? I'm im Brazil and the shipping has abusive price for me.

  • 55,720 people made a "world most useless machine"

  • cutting and soldering of the wires is unneccessary. I figured out how to make one of these myself with a servo, and I didnt have to go through the hassle of cutting wires and soldering- works completely fine with the 3 wires

  • @3ntomology hey--- how did you do it?

  • so much work for an useless machine don' xDt ya think?

  • sorry can you show me how the mechanism for opening the lid works? I can see it's rather simple but I can't quite understand how it works.

    thanks!!

    by the way great tutorial!

  • Why use a servo? your mod makes the servo function like a motor

  • @455898334 The mod doesn't make it function like a motor since it already functions as a motor, just controlled by an integrated circuit chip. What this mod does is take out the controller while keeping the gearing, so you still get the torgue. Think of my version as an "analog" system. There is a way to use a servo with an IC (integrated circuit) "The brains". It's just a matter of which version you want to tinker with.

  • @thejetdrvr may i please watch the video to buy it because i really want it for christmas

  • I take a deviator and not interructor?

  • I'm going to put this on all my light switches to fuck with people. People will be so confused when they turn on the lights and a robot comes out of the wall and turns them off again.

  • @thejetdtvr will this work with a dpdt on/off/on switch? i can't find this on/ on switch.

    thx

  • radio shack and michael's should pay him for this video...

  • sorry i didn't understand the bit about the switch wat was it called

  • how did you learn to make this?

  • @AznAlacran Trial and error.

  • @thejetdrvr Is that a Futuba s3003 servo?

  • Great tutorial. How much do the materials cost all toll?

  • i built one but the servo is not strong enough to push the paddle back to turn itself off.

  • how much does everything cost? :P

  • can I use any small dc motor instead of a servo?

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    PD: Mexicanos la tienen adentro

  • Yeah remove the white one! not the black one

  • what is a servo for?

  • could u modifi it to make it turn a light on or possible do something else

  • ......you might wanna put in a little annotation of what toggle switch to get, i accidently ordered a DTDP on/off/on switch instead on a DPDT on/on switch...iv already soldered it all together but luckily havnt glued anything in the box yet

  • wouldnt it be easier to just solder two wires onto the two terminals under the servo? that way you can still use the servo as a servo in the future

  • @8thHaloGamer but that involves dismantleing the box, and who would want to dismantle this thing of beauty?

  • iv had no problem finding all the components but what size wooden box should i get? and where from?

  • Could anyone give me a general cost of everything put together?

  • Thanks

  • why do u have to use a servo cant u use a regular motor

  • Could you tell me which model the servo and rocker switch is? Great tutorial.

  • @ubernooberdude Radio shack. Micro switch with roller Servo is a futaba standard.

  • @thejetdrvr Can you send me a photo of it? I live in Vietnam and it's difficult to find the sevro w/o a picture. Thnks.

  • Instead of cutting off the potentiometer shaft, a couple of gentle but firm taps on it will push the potentiometer and circuit board out of the servo case (after desoldering the motor connections, of course). That might not be the case for all servos, but that's certainly true of the cheaper futaba servos such as the one in this video :)

One very handy use for the extracted circuit board is as a speed controller for robots/rc flight.

  • anyone know where to buy that servo at?

  • @childishgambino86 Any local hobby shop. Ask for a futaba standard servo.

  • where didt you get that rocker switch ??

  • @arnoud1621 Radio shack. Micro switch with roller

  • i need 2 find a rocker switch like that and i live in holland zo its hard 2 find becus i dont now the correct name for it in dutch zo could any 1 help me out send me a message thnx

  • i need 2 find a rocker switch like that and i live in holland zo its hard 2 find cus i dont now the correct name for it in dutch zo could any 1 help me out send me a message thnx

  • @arnoud1621 i think its a tuimelschakelaar :) (greets from holland :P)

  • @arnoud1621 i think its a tuimelschakelaar :) (greets from holland :P)

  • @arnoud1621 i think it is a tuimelschakelaar :)

    greets from holland ;)

  • the 2 people that disliked this are either too stupid to understand or they got hurt by the box

  • What servo did you use, and would the arm move if I were to pull it - by which I mean, could I bypass a bunch of wiring with an elastic band?

  • @jackcrazeanim Futaba standard servo.

  • lol this is fun

  • all i have is a single pole double throw switch. can i still make the box with that?

  • @itzsommer Nope. Need a DPDT ON-ON

  • all i have is a single pole double throw switch. can i still make it work?

  • Not including the box, what is the approx cost of components?

  • Anyone know if you can use a servo off of a VEX Robotics kit?

  • I have a NES-507 Servo laying on my desk and was wondering what I need to do to modify it to work. It has 3 wires running into the motor when you open in. Don't wanna screw it up if I dont have to. Can send a picture If you wish.

  • What exact type of motor do you need? I seem to find alot of different types. Could someone provide me with the name of the motor

  • One question:

In the beginning when you showed the useless machine, was the part of the box where the arm comes out being propped up for the arm, or did the arm lift it up itself?

    Please respond!

  • @SomeCrazyKids1000 The arm lifts up the lid

  • why you can't just use a normal small moter? why a servo?

  • @dudefreaker3 Typical motor with gearing doesn't have enough torque to move the switch. The servo has several gears inside that provides the torque needed.

  • thats a mouse button ? 8:00

  • I made my own box ^_^

  • @Talhanator Great! Got a vid of it? Post a reply video to this.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the help. This was a very clear tutorial.

  • Can this be done but have two rocker switches to (one on bottom one on top) to have the arm hold the lid open?

  • @xean7000 Yes you can but you have to wire the DRDT switch differently. I did what you are saying in my "proof of concept" video. I set it as a response to this one but it's not showing up yet. Just go to my channel if it isn't here. Anyway at the end of the video I explain the wiring to the switch. Hope that helps you.

  • very ingenious. im building when after vacation definitally

  • My servo has a red a grey brown and an orange wires and only metal gear that can't be cut

  • Wow. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • can you use mini servo's????

  • does it matter if the battery holder is 4 AAA batteries?

  • wat was the first thing called?

  • what is the first item called

  • what was the first item called?

  • what was the first item called?

  • when the rocker switch is depressed xD

  • Hi, thanks for the answer. The reason it is not working was a wrong switch. I found out a way to fix it and now my boxes works. U can see it if u click me :)

  • what kind of switch you use? on-on on-off on-off-on idk

  • @gatsu8888888 It's an ON/ON DPDT

  • @gatsu8888888 DPDT ON ON

  • @thejetdrvr Wait... so are you saying you can't use a regular switch where up is on and down is off?

  • @thejetdrvr Wait so are you saying you can't use a regular switch where up is on and down is off?

  • what kind of toggle lever do you use? on on? on off? on off mom ?

  • Hi, i dont understand this wiring. On the Left pins i have to solder the batterie positive and negative wire and cross it with the right site, but on any of this cross i put that switch on it? And what i have to solder in the middle? The red wire from the motor or what? Thanks for answer

  • @eplu The motor is soldered to the two middles ones. The battery is soldered to one side. Then brought over to the other side and crossed over. In the middle of the crossover a micro switch is placed. The micro switch kills the power on retraction.

  • eh looks kinda confusing...is buying all the electical parts (not the tools) under 20$

  • you can also disable the pot meter on the servo.

    you make nice machines ;)

  • now I'm able to do it myself :)

    thank you VERY much!!!

  • very easy to follow tutorial!, thanks to you and saskview I now know how to make the most desirable gift for someone who has everything!

    thanks guys!

    nigeq

  • haha really cool

  • Excellent tutorial!

  • Thanks for the inspiration.
