LOL! That video and instructions are great! Thanks for doing that! :) But yes, what about Canon tech support. They can fix and make some money and plus you get a warranty for the repair. Might as well! Or yes buy another one, but more pollution. Hello! :) What bugs me is that Canon never advertising for issues like that! ;)
Thankyou for this post. The tip which enabled me to reset the printer status without actually fixing the problem saved me a big headache because it meant I was able to print something I needed urgently.
nice video, very helpful, thanks....just wondering why this printer makers make printers with their ink absorbers need to be cleaned by tearing it apart. No logic in making it the way they want it to be except fulling people to break it or pay more for it for repair...
This works perfectly! Only you have to watch out when you get that big thing out of it with the cartridges on it.. There is a white plate behind it with 5 springs which fall out easily. They can be put back, but some arent that easy to put back.. If they do fall out, you should google up the manual. There's a drawing of the printer in it, where you can see how the springs are positioned if you zoom in and look closely.
@konczalr what manual do you mean exactly? I didn't use anything but this video and my own intelligence to fix our printer, if that's what you mean :)
thanx, I can't believe I fixed it. I followed your instructions and it works... To reset the error code you need to unplug power supply, hold down the power button, replug the power supply. A little messy but cleaned up easily. Thanks again, you saved me a few bucks as I had spare ink here for that printer.
please help..I've followed all steps and now I'm to the part of going to the link..after following the more info i go to a page with 3 links all 3 lead me to internet cant connet to those links is there new links?
hi , Thank you for that advice, however I just replaced one ink cartridge and It is reading error 5100, I looked through the manual & can't find anything on this erroe, and I have turned it off & on a bunch of times, can u help me?
These instructions clean the MAIN ink absorbers. But there's a second ink absorber - the PLATEN one - which he does not talk about. The PLATEN is in the black plastic directly underneath the printhead as it slides back and forth. CLEAN THE PLATEN TOO before following the Part 2 video to reset both the MAIN and PLATEN ink absorbers in your software.
He shows how to take apart your iP1500 -- he does NOT show how to put it back together! The springs he points to at 4:30 WILL fall out!
@thinkhmm Yeah, it's best to clean both, but they platen absorbers are directly connected to the main ones so any extra spillage goes into the main absorbers. I wouldn't consider the platen ones to be absolutely crucial, but I'm no printer tech.
And to put it back together, just follow the reverse order you took it apart (or watch the video backwards, lol :)
@cubedgame, I didn't think about the platen absorber being accessible from the main ones. It makes me wary of resetting the platen count in the software.
Putting the printer back together is no problem -- except for those 5 springs. There is no clear shot of them in the video, so I can't see how they are supposed to be attached. I can't find that into anywhere. Even the official service manual doesn't show or label that white plate!
Hi cubedgame, great vid, just taken apart mine. Did wonder about the platen absorber- how easy would you say it is to get out? I removed a sprung screw on the Left side and the regular on the right but is there another buried? Is it worth the effort of detaching the roller? Is there any switch connected with this pad that will trigger a fault code?
@thinkhmm Okay, I tried to get the platen one out, but I did not manage to really get it out. How many screws do you have to remove to get that one out? And which screws?
Dude, u have no idea how helpfull this video was, I was about to trow the printer away, but I had my doubts wether there was any way to clean the waste ink tube stuff.
Well, by now i already have washed both ink deposit, im just worried about the rearm of the prinet and triyng to put everithing back together, but in any case, thanks.
The easy fix - I opened the front of my Pixma 1500 and found two little wet, black sponges on the right inside floor of the printer. I blotted those sponges firmly with a couple wadded up tissues. I did this four or five times.. Yes, my fingers got a little inky, but it was sooo much easier than taking out screws and untabbing tabs and then praying that it all went back together. It worked great for me. My printer stopped giving the message and my printing looks all spiffy and crisp.
Thank you for these 2 videos, cubedgame. So expedient, so helpful. It worked just perfect for me and right the way you show it. Pixma iP1500 now is almost like new.
Canon is gay my Canon wasts my ink so much I recommend HP I had it and I only needed to change the ink once a year, since the scanner light broke I had to buy Canon I thought they were good but they suck, I recommend HP plus Hp prints in high quality.
when I hit print, in the que box, the Service Error - 5600 displays and the orange light flashes - 10 times consecutively, then a steady green light and orange light again.
damnit, so i got the printer working again, but i stil get the same error about the waste ink!! i did the reset as shown in part 2 of this vid, but when i restart the computer and want to print something it gives the same damn error!! argh, took me almost a day to fix the damn thing :@
i got it back to gether again, but i dont have pictures of how the springs should go in and i forgot anyway, sorry, but afterall i got the printer working again, it takes some logical thinking and some Googling to get it right ;)
i searched on google for a disassemble manual of the printer, i dont know if its on the Canon website itself, it shows how the white block with the springs goes to gether, after that, it took me about 30 minutes to figure out how the springs need to go on. I cant look it up for you, it wasn't my printer, but from a customer
The white headcleaner consists of a main and a flat part. Hook one spring to the cone standing up from the bottom of the cavity in which the headcleaner slides back and forth. The other side of the spring to a hook on the bottom side of the main part, right of the tubes. The other spring is hooked to the cone at the rear of the flat part. The other side of the spring to a cone on the grey left side wall of the cavity.
so i got myself a problem, i disassembled the printer, cleaned the absorbers. But while i was disassembling it i pulled two little springs of off the 2 inkpads wich are underneath the cartridge holder. How and where do i mount these tiny springs again?
@behangman I think I know which springs you mean.. I got one of them out.. There are about 5 of them, so you should look closely, than you can finde out how to put them back in.
This is awesome. Thanks, man. I had some trouble getting the casing off with the top rear clips, so I used a screw driver. When I put it back together, I started to freak out because it wasn't printing properly, but after cleaning the heads, it worked perfectly.
Good vid, except the paper backing at 5:10, when I tried to reassemble mine there was no conceivable way to refit it. Whatever I tried it would sit awkwardly and wouldn't work. I couldn't figure it out.
I would advise checking how it sits in the motor/cog assembly before removal, as opposed to just popping/ripping it out - it has a tab on the right hand side which sits amongst everything there somehow. Bar this, everything else simple enough.
Thanks for posting this. It looks easy, but to anyone planing to try this I'd advise against it. Everything is snug and back as it was, but the printer head does not move anymore. Also wanted to mention the 5 springs along the bottom of that plate section that just fall out once it's out, but are a total b%#ch to get back in. Don't know why it won't work anymore, but the thing's toast now. Anyway, I admire your skills, but alas I am not up to the challenge.
@kengtsu yeah I had that too, but they seem quite easy to put back.. I havent tried printing though, 'cause my absorbers are still drying so I haven't put the thing back together yet. I hope it will work..
Thanks a lot man!!!!
