Attacking players who have their backs turned, winning a Series on a bad call, choking away pennants in the last inning...all facts... yep, THERE'S your team's true MLB history...Lucky they had George Brett, the team's only good player and true Hall-of-Famer, or they'd only be remembered for nothing other than always blowing it in the clutch, being just good enough to always be bridesmaids, and playing before a half-filled park loaded with uninformed, selective memory mental midget fans.
It amazes me how many people seem to have no purpose on youtube other than putting down what other people enjoy. George is the only HOF, but he isn't the only player who was fun to watch. Yes it was a bad call but it wasn't the only one in the history of baseball, not the only one in the series, not even the only one in THAT game! And if the Cards had stood up and said "we deserve to win and by God we're going to!" it wouldn't have mattered at all. It didn't decide the game, it decided one out.
You say the Royals have had only one good player? WRONG! Let's see, Piniella '69 ROY, H.McRae 2091 hits .290 avg, F.White 2006 hits 8 gold gloves, A.Otis 2020 hits 341 steals, D.Leonard 20 wins 3x w/ Royals, Saberhagen 2 Cy Youngs w/ Royals 167 career wins 1715 K's only 471 walks, S.Busby threw 2 no-hitters won 40 games in 1974-75 before injury, W.Wilson won AL batting title .332 in '82 2207 hits 668 steals, Quisenberry 244 saves career ERA 2.76, Bo Jackson, Not HOF's but many good/great players
They didn't win the Series on a bad call. They won Game 6 because of it, but what about the rest of the Series where the Royals outplayed the Cardinals by a wide margin? The Royals won Games 3 & 5 by exact scores of 6-1. St. Louis could have proved they were the better team in Game 7, but the Royals won 11-0. For the series, the Cards were held to a .185 average and 13 runs and were outscored in Games 3,5,7 by a whopping 23-2. You better do some research because you obviously don't have a clue.
true. they better make it by 2010. I would just have to think they will. they have too much talent coming that its going to be fun watching baseball in kc for awhile to come! I think gordon will have a great season and hopefully teahen will comeback and play good this year.
All this young up and coming talent. They are going to be great players some day. They just have to mature, and get settled down somewhere on the depth chart. Im happy with the way Teahen played in right. I went through the same surgery he did, and it failed. No more baseball for me :(
Al Cowens, Hal McCrae, Darrell Porter, yeah, what a "great" legacy...with the exception of class act George Brett, the Royals have always been a bunch of classless raging misfits, a team that has always choked in the clutch, couldn't win the big game, and won their only championship because an umpire made a historically bad call...yeah, great team...lol
Legacy? The Royals have only been around since 1969 which was before free agency. They built through their farm system and trades. 2nd place... in just their 3rd season. Then, from 1975-89 they finished no lower than 3rd & either 1st or 2nd 13 of 15 seasons with 6 div. titles, 2 pennants, and 1 W. Series win. Since former owner Ewing Kauffman passed away, they don't have the money or payroll for big name free agents & thus can't compete w/ NY & Boston. You obviously don't know your MLB history.
What a great video! Thanks so much! The Royals have been down for awhile. I would love to see them become contenders again! In fact, the 3 sports teams with a lot of tradition who have been down for awhile right now are the Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Boston Celtics. I know that all 3 will be back in time!
It says a montage of KC baseball, not just Royals baseball. We have a rich baseball history. The Monarchs were a proud championship ballclub whose history should be remembered. The A's were a colorful franchise, and our first taste of major league sports in this city.
A little short on the glory years 1976-1985 but overall very nice. BTW... where is Gura, Leonard, Rojas, Herzog and many many other players that played a key role in Royals history?
Well, the video's not perfect. And watching it for the first time in a while, I could have made things go a little quicker at that point in the video. That said, it's a little tough to find pictures of everyone from that era on the web...and, for the most part, they're pretty similar to the ones already there. So, I left them out. Leonard, I definitely should have in there. Cookie and Gura probably should be. Thanks for checking it out.
Those '85 Royals were quite a good team...coming back from down 3-games-to-1 TWICE in the same year, & winning the World Series vs their cross-state rivals from St. Louis. Those were great times in KC. Hey, if the Tigers can find a way revive baseball in Detroit, the Royals can do the same in KC....
1985 yep

Unfortunately for KC fans, the next few seasons don't look too promising. I hope the Royals can turn their franchise around and contend again.
