I agree, he shouldn't have turned himself in. I have also heard of an incident in 1981, when Goetz was attacked by 3 guys, and suffered permanent injuries to his chest and knee. He helped the police, but they could get only 1 of the 3 guys, and spent more time in the police station than one of the guys that attacked him. What is even sickening is the guy was only charged with criminal mischief, even with the permanent chest and knee injuries that he suffered from that attack.

Those punks did try to screw with him somehow, but Goetz did everything possible to put himself into that situation and went overboard with his use of force (he shot one guy who had no intent on robbing him). It's a calculation that has to be done in the fraction of a second, and there is probably more instinct than higher reasoning that goes on in that situation. They did have flat-head screw-drivers on them that they had pulled out (it is common for muggers to put a screw driver to the victims throat because you won't get in trouble if caught with one). Goetz said they pulled them but they said they didn't but when they were searched, they all had them on them. So they were basically saying he guessed correctly that they had them.

Yes, one of them confessed to planning to rob him, but it was one of the survivors who sued Goetz, the one who was paralyzed. Years ago there was a string of car burgleries in my area. I had an old junk box and needed a new car anyway so I rigged something up. I built a powerfull bomb into and around the seats. I agree, he shouldn't have turned himself in. I have also heard of an incident in 1981, when Goetz was attacked by 3 guys, and suffered permanent injuries to his chest and knee. He helped the police, but they could get only 1 of the 3 guys, and spent more time in the police station than one of the guys that attacked him. What is even sickening is the guy was only charged with criminal mischief, even with the permanent chest and knee injuries that he suffered from that attack.

Those punks did try to screw with him somehow, but Goetz did everything possible to put himself into that situation and went overboard with his use of force (he shot one guy who had no intent on robbing him). He strikes me as the type of person I call a "violence geek". Some guys have a really unhealthy obsession with weapons and constantly fantasize about being in situations where they're "forced" to use them. If you go out of your way to look for trouble, you're going to find it.

The bottom line is, assume everyone is armed with a gun and prepared to defend their own life even if it means ending yours. They say that the guys Goetz shot weren't in the act of mugging him and they didn't have weapons on them. They did have flat-head screw-drivers on them that they had pulled out (it is common for muggers to put a screw driver to the victims throat because you won't get in trouble if caught with one). Goetz said they pulled them but they said they didn't but when they were searched, they all had them on them. So they were basically saying he guessed correctly that they had them.

@1PATTEBJ Are you stupid? Colin Ferguson is mentally ill. He came on the LIRR and killed tons of people for no reason. Goetz shot 4 guys who were not innocent and were trying to rob him. Goetz is a hero. Ferguson is a nut job. You should get some education and, when you do, come back here with a logical and legitimate opinion.

Why hasn't anyone else defended themselves like Goetz yet? Maybe it's time for everyone to start defending themselves against predators? Everyone knows that people get robbed and intimidated every day. Why don't the innocent, lie Goetz, start blasting?

@tallswede80 Well it would probable make things worse if they all was dead.I think it says on wikki that one of the guys confessed they wore out to robb him.yet they got to sue him.I seem to recall he served in jail for a time also have to pay them alot of money.and is now brooke.

Yes, one of them confessed to planning to rob him, but it was one of the survivors who sued Goetz, the one who was paralyzed. So I'm guessing if none of them had survived, there would be no one left to sue him, right? That's the way I look at it. They had the paralyzed nog to bring into court and make everyone feel sorry for him.
But he only served time in jail for having an illegal weapon, but that's not what we're talking about.

Those of you who call Goetz a "hero" are idiots who can't sort out the truth.
THE EVENT HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON. Who carries a loaded gun onto a subway in broad daylight? Do your research, assholes: he was in illegal possession of this gun.
Furthermore, the four black "men" were all really teens under age 20. Goetz was 37, and he had no knowledge of their criminal backgrounds when he shot them. He is NOT a vigilante, just a racist white fuck who got paranoid and decided to shoot.

He was mugged before that by black guys,so it wasnt just paranoia.its easy to judge unless youve been mugged before.if he didnt do,he coulda been killed too.

Years ago there was a string of car burgleries in my area. I had an old junk box and needed a new car anyway so I rigged something up. I built a powerfull bomb into and around the seats. I left an expensive looking radio and a purse in said car. Nothing happend for a week. Then one night..wow It sounded like a fuckin atomic bomb. There was a few peices of scrap metal left at the scence. There was also several body parts strewn about.
No more burgleries.

@tallswede80 true story...I had a lil regret for a short time after...that passed.....I know now that what I did was in the best interest of the public. A yr ago there was a string of house breaks not far from me. I think I am very close to finding the culprit. When I do, the punishment that I deliver will be posted on videotape here.

IMHO, it's absolutely distateful to show a man who used a gun in self-defense in the same episode along with a homosexual serial killer!
Looks like the interviewer has more sympathy for the serial killer than for the ordinary citizen who has protected himself against criminals!!! How disgusting.
