  • I am a canon user but between pentax , sony and olympus i would chose olympus anytime. cheap camera , no cheap feeling , pretty good menu, good control of the camera and good choice of Olympus OM old lenses. I am not a big fan of movie mode into a DSLR so not disapointed. And my biggest surprise ? i use a 40 dollars OM to EOS adapter for a ultra wide lens, the kit OM 14-42 is a dram on canon. Cheap and awesome. the best review is in store, when you can feel the camera. take care ..

  • I dropped my lightweight plasticky feel E410 one story, it rolled down the stairs with a small tripod and a flash mounted on it.... i thought it will die... and amazingly not even a scratch... and it still did 140.000 shots ... this mf can't die... try doing this with a canon... see what happens...

  • I dropped my 510 about 4 feet and it's fine. It's lighter because it's not huge like Canikons. Canon and Nikon sell a lot of crop sensor cameras too btw, they always cost more for less camera, but you have the name I guess.

  • lmfao, you dropped an Olympus from 12'' and it died?

So that means you dropped it from 12'' into a woodchipper.

I've dropped my 6yr old, $300 E-500 from SIX FEET and still managed to pull off 60,000 more actuations with it.

Oh and on a side note...

"Takes pretty good pictures in most circumstances." Is an automatic sign of a crap review.

  • I just got this camera and found it to be substantial in feel, comperable to my old Olympus OM-10 when loaded down with lens, winder and flash. I've yet to do a lot of shooting, so I can't say exactly how well it performs, but I will say the zuiko lenses that Olympus always has used with thier cameras are very nice lenses to be sure! I agree with pape666 that wired and cnet are heavily biased against Olympus.

  • if you are getting a dslr means you must be getting in to photography, and i have heard and read this from many professional photographers," the quality of your photos depends on your skills and knowledge not the camera." i searched many websites before i bought my e620, i found that many main stream websites such as wired.com and cnet.com are heavily biased by brands, they review a canon or nikon with their mind already made up thats very good product so they only look at positive aspects.

  • this guy really sucks, i have a e620 and it feels so well made, it takes amazing pictures, and the camera has a feature that reduces noise during low light situations you just have to turn it on moron. if you are planing to buy this camera its a great and capable camera. the screen is a very handy specially if you are getting macro shots where you have to get really close to ground. the screen is amazing quality and you can easily see even in direct sun light.

  • your review is shit...go shoot with ur nikon. u dont understand olympus ... you look weak and plasticly, and olympus are more rugged than canon and nikon. u want video get a camcorder.and olympus invented live view, think we can use it for what we want ...

  • This is a bullshit review. Canon and Nikon are automatically "pro tier"?

A canon or nikon in the same priceclass are different: but not "better". Brand has nothing to do with the capability of a camera: but then again most buyers are mainstream idiots that buy based on reviews from the likes of you right?

    You disgust me.

  • i give the reviewer a 2/10

  • fucking awful review. I have an olympus e620 and my bro has Canon 500D but even he told me that E620 is well build and looks and feels like rock solid compared to Canon 500D. Obviously E620 is weak at low light situations compared to canon and nikon entry levels but at least it takes pretty good pictures most of the time. love my E620!

  • Dude sry but DSLR dont have video. They just focused on picture creation. so comment about video just nonsense

  • I actually did drop this camera from waste level onto a wooden lamenat floor. Didn't do it a bit of harm, don't they say the bigger they are the harder they fall.

  • shit review by an obvious "canikon" mainstreamist

  • .."the camera feels light weight and plasticlly","the lens feel plasticlly" :D

..ha,ha,ha what he expected to get the wieght of an Hasselblad H2F or Canon EOS-1D Mark III in an upper entry level dSLR, and the best of all is that the one of the camera features is its compact body and portability :D

..."dont drop it!" this is really an usefull suggestion :D ha,ha,ha

  • i think that this guy is a poser. The E-620 looks plasticlly and weak??? If u compare the e-620 and D5000 the e-620 is looks and feel stronger and better build camera.

The ergonomics of the e-620 is better than the D5000, no one mentioned that the D5000 has a deeper grip but the grip is to close to the lens mount , so if u gonna use an little wider lenses than a kit lens u will scratch ur fingers while zooming...

  • damn dude, i think this guy just wants every one to buy an canon or nikon!

  • this guy sux..... he doesnt know how to give a good review on this camera... guess he just another brand basher....acting professional...punk.

  • why the 6/10, and why an Entry D-SLR, I think that the olympus e-620 is not just an Entry leveler..

Next year Im going to buy an dslr-camera of olympus, maybe the E-720 ;)

  • Strange review. Check the review on dpreview which I think is a more trusted source for photography.

  • this is a crap review.

  • I shoot with both the Olympus E-620 & the Nikon D300

Right to clear up a few things

ISO1600 on the E-620 isn't that far behind the D300 if you shoot RAW it cleans up really good.

Build Quality the E-620 build it proberly the best of this Range of Camera's Both Canon 500D & Nikon D5000 feel really cheap the E-620 doesn't.

Not having video who care's it does what it suppose to do take pictures, Video from the D5000 D90 & the Canon 500D isn't all that great.

  • I'm looking for something with a strong enough zoom to get through my neighbor's blinds, but cheap enough so I don't miss it after the police confiscate it.

  • he is trying to sound honest

  • The excessive use of the words: Not Bad, Pretty Good, Descent means don't buy it!

If you want and SLR, get a good one, if you want a cheap camera, get a point and shoot camera. The entry level SLR-s are almost just bigger point and shoot cameras with exposure control.

  • You don't know what your're talking about

  • The last comment (if you want something better get a Nikon or a Canon) is sort of ignorant. Olympus makes a whole range of models - and several of them "up scale" from this model. The review also ignore the fact that some of the better Olympus lenses get a lot of rave reviews as being best in their class - including some that are best - period!

  • Olympus is nice, but their new Micro 4/3s cameras are where the action is at.

  • nice, but for cheaper and beter you can get the nikon d60 the only different thing is it doesnt have the fold out screen.

  • I have a D60 and I'd like to replace it with maybe this Olympus. Why? Because the D60 doesn't have built in wireless flash. And even more stupidly doesn't have exposure bracketing.

  • it also does not have an auto zoom

  • cool camera!!!
