  • i never got past the 2nd level.....wish i still had the game though

  • They dont do things like that no more. And the coming movie will have the same problem.

  • If you loved this game and it made u think..............and it freaked u out a bit and kept u in....thumbs up!!!

  • Does anyone know if Myst can be run on windows 7? Please let me know, I've been dying to play it lately.

  • @MistSource Myst: Masterpiece Edition (i.e. the original Myst game with some updates to colors/graphics) is available on Steam for 5.99... I'm thinking about getting it myself

  • someone needs to make a metal cover of this and extend it.

  • @ASkinnyWhiteGuy yes and also exiles theme

  • Check out my rendition of Myst III Exile!

  • Reinstalls game.

    Missing Book of Atrus...

    ALL MY RAGE.....

  • I love how there is so many myst players! I thought I was the only one who played this game! =D

  • @robbiewalch According to Wikipedia it was the number one selling video game world wide until 2002 when it was surpassed by the Sims.

  • I remember playing this when I was really young, (I'm talking like 4 here) and not having one clue as to what was going on. I wish computers these days would allow us to play old pc games aswell so I could play this again and really understand it....

  • @sunkissed361 yeah, same, i played when i was about six, and got a little of it, and my dad kept telling me that the clues up in the tower were just decoration...

  • played this on my ipod touch at 1:00 in the morning, my brother found out and completely freaked me out by waking me up to this song

  • Myst is very probably the best adventure-puzzle game ever made. I'm quite serious about this- the mixture of the (even now, almost) scenery-porn visuals, the sheer mystery of the setting, the Beautiful Void aspect of it, the mind-boggling puzzles and the effort made to make them make sense within the world... The whole series, especially this game, is just brilliant.

  • @Nerdule I do wish I hadn't abused the hint button so much on my own playthrough, though.

  • @Nerdule 'Beautiful Void'. I see what you did there.

  • The Myst music was recorded with a single E-mu Proteus Module.

  • @Chriskkboongg WHICH ONE. If that's true, I want it. I want whatever created THIS.

  • @vanishy0urself "produced" not "created", the creator was, of course, the music composer himself. (I think it was Robyn Miller?)

  • @vanishy0urself Yes thats right. And in the following games, Jack Wall took some of his particular methods to induce new themes.

  • a memory I will cherish forever.

  • 6 people are forever stuck on Myst island.

  • @Xaio30 Or didn't chose the green book.

  • 6 people dont have an imagination.

  • i remember playing this when i was like five it scared the crap out of me, but i think it's kind of embedded in there.

  • There are actually soms animals in Myst, you can see butterflys sometimes.

  • Classic stuff, I love this game. It was one of the first on my Windows 95. Good memories.

  • man, if only some eccentric would buy a private island and build an exact myst replica :D

  • @Blacklemon67a With moving pieces, so you can raise and lower the ship and open the gear, et al.

  • @elfinfluff totally man

  • Oh the Memories, The tree which went *kabam kabam* after you figured out the match, the space ship which you had to power through lots of lever switching, the rotating island with that elevator thing at the center, the tree city with the windmill, the dark submarine which you had to navigate through sound, the lighthouse, the page collecting, the epic ending, oh my, I wish I could go back and play it all anew again.

  • 6 people don't have ears

  • oh oops didnt see that XD

  • When i die,I hope when i go throught the tunnle part to heaven i hope they would be playing the Myst theme.

  • @CaptainViral84 That would be beyond awesome...

  • Oh the memories...

  • @thecatyoukai true dat. ;)

@Gameeater94 Yeah lol. Livin' the dream! :D

  • This should be played every time one performs a google search.

  • @compelx or when they open a book

  • eu so ubraisleiro adoro joga myst lembras os tempos da nintendo esse jogo e ua aveentura em estrategia eu jogava quando eu era pequeno era muito bom disem que no final no jogo tu encontra uam carta

  • This song should win an oscar

  • 6 people are in D'ni.

  • @WinterAdvent old school nerd comment? ;P

  • @WinterAdvent no no, 11 people found d'ni and brought the white page. 6 people left the white page in the safe are now trapped forever :]

  • @Accisma plus in Riven there WERE people! Just remember that small kid that stood in front of you all of a sudden, then ran away. I almost died of heartattack! xD

  • @Junxchan Today I played RIVEN with my younger sister (I played it over and over again) and she was nearly falling down the chair after seeing this little girl and beeing scared... :-)

  • what a scary game

  • @shittyfuck

It's actually not that scary, sure it's very surreal. But far from being scary.

    Just my opinion.

  • greatest game series ever

  • I don't get it...This game is not creepy, nor is the music creepy, the music is fucking killer awsome, personally I found playing Resident Evil 2 or Nemesis, by yourself in the dark is creepy, now that will make you shit your pants, especially those damn zombie dogs and lickers....

  • Myst's soundtrack freaks me out, but in an amazing way.

Jack Wall, have my babies please.

  • @TheDoogleBoy

Robyn Miller, Rand's brother actually did the first two soundtracks for the Myst series. Jack Wall helped produced the third one and the soundtrack's for four and five.

  • Great memories of this game :) I remember I used to play it on my old Apple way back in the 90's when I was a kid, ha Model LC120 33mhz CPU or something. I don't think it was even called a mac at the time. I played A-10 Cuba,Overload,Alone in the Dark, very early games.

  • Douglas Adams described it as a beautiful void. It means that it is beautiful but desolate and without people or animals. It is surprising how little people understand that statement. So lonely.

    So cold.

    So empty.

    A perpetual stasis of nothing.

The most beautiful void in existence.

What hell it is to feel nothing.

    Cold.

  • i remember playing this game in my old, dark basement with all the light off. lets just say i shit myself more than 3 times a week ;)

  • Comment removed

  • The soundtrack to the loneliest place in the universe.

  • That creepy music gave me nightmares as a little kid!

  • This song takes me back to a lot of frustration.

    Completely awesome.

  • 5 people missed the like button. That's too bad.

  • @btwede10 I just clicked it because of your stupid comment

  • As creepy as this is, I probably wouldn't mind this song looping in my dreams.

  • Best. Game. Ever.

  • some of it sounds like the music from signs

  • Check out my rendition of Myst on keyboard!

  • Am I the only one that'd love to live on the island? >.>

  • @jaydahsxcreator i would be terrified. theirs no one else there. ever. the weather, the night, no wear to go. i mean maybe if i had other people, or a computer.

  • i meant playing it at night when your sitting in a pitch black room with nothing but the screen expecting something to jump out at u

  • @Andylong99 Creepy WTF !?!? Resident Evil is a creepy game but Myst ... whatever but not creepy !

  • @ElCrinko i think he means playing it at night, or realmyst..

  • @ElCrinko

I think he means the music makes you feel as though someone was watching you all the time, or that the place was the loneliest in the universe.

  • I haven't been to that mysterious island in many years. This song brings a shiver up my spine even now.

  • boring......

  • was playing that game with my dad back in the days when i was 5.... my first videogame ever... hu....... man........

  • Lawl I found the CD in a box while searching for music. :P

  • I still have this game. God now I want to take it out and play threw it again. O.o

  • oh shit, this game haunted me as a kid.

  • I'm the Myst goddess! Check out my rendition of the Myst theme on keyboard!

  • Even though this game was point-and-click i still sometime felt i was there, ya know?

  • used to play this on our old packard bell with windows 3.1. fuck yeah hahaha

  • I remember there was this forest place, and huge flowers that did something when you used them, and you had to trigger watermelons? Or something. Seeing Avatar reminded me of it. :)

  • Oh, I think that's from Exile and I agree, that reminded me of Avatar too! :D

  • @Laratigergirl That was Exile, not Myst. And the area you're thinking of is called Edanna.

  • @videogamer810 Oh my god, thank you! It's a real mindfuck visiting that place after so many years. XD

  • I used to play this on my grandpa's Macintosh performa. A huge computer for a little kid, because of that, the game was even scarrier for me. I can still remember myself freaking out, in the tree-elevator to that horrible boring swamp world.

  • hahaha thats great

  • Man talk about the good old days when gameing was all about good story telling and rocksoled game play

  • Made this entire game in LittleBigPlanet.

  • The best puzzle game ever made.

  • One of the biggest regrets I have in my life is spoiling how to beat this game to my parents. Why did they have to make it so that you could get to the end right from the start?!

  • wtf do you mean??

  • so many memories!

  • He was exiled because Sirrus and Achenar lured him there and then destroyed all the books leading out.

  • na they took a page from his myst linking book

  • You're thinking of Atrus. I was talking about Saavedro lol

  • i remember this from when i was a kid, i was so scared of this game... lol

  • heh, me too! The ship age, i think it was. no, whatever it was really called. ..

lights turned off! loud noises! flashing red lights! freaked out!

  • I'll never forget when those lights went out and the alarm startedblaring. Ran out of that tunnel as fast as I could. Playing the game at night didn't help.

  • Me too!! I continuously shitted in my pants at that moment... (at the water world with all those pumps, right?')

  • @CallinWire I freaked out when I did that too.

  • @CallinWire The shipwreck age? I don't know what the name was... been years.

  • @BlueSlyster stoneship

  • @BlueSlyster

    Stoneship is the name

  • @TheRyftLord Someone already answered that, thanks. =P

  • @CallinWire

Who doesn't go "OH S**** IM OUTTA HERE" when that happens XD

  • @TheRyftLord Do you have some kind of video where that happens? I don`t remember when the lights go out and the alarm starts beeping. What part in the game did that take place in?

  • @TrunkMonkey3000 Stoneship Age in the caves, if you hit the wrong button on the giant compass or run out of electricity from the generator that happens.

  • @TrunkMonkey3000 That's the Stoneship age. You have to click the 12th point on the compass, but if you don't the power goes out and the alarm goes off.

  • @bbbLAze736 Same here

  • i dunno why this game is so freaky when i was a kid. probably the isolation and the landscape and the music i think im not sure?

  • This game came out the year I was born. I am so thankful this was the one computer game my dad ever bought - I was introduced to it at an early age. I was intrigued...and terrified.

This theme used to scare me as a child, and it still is very chilling. The MYST series is the foundation of my childhood and I would not be the intellect I am today if I hadn't grown up along with it.

  • i cant stop thinking about the theme too...

  • @StoanPhrogg That describes me perfectly as well!

  • "And so I close, realizing that the ending has not yet been written"

    -Flame Warden Lunash

  • Epic! How did you get the song by itself? (From the soundtrack album?)

  • use a bittorrent client!!

  • I've had an idea of using this music for a trailer: Starting with the book fly-by, then the whole scene expands, becoming a top-down view of the whole island, showing the MYST logo in gold, one letter at a time, then the words Island and Resort appear in Link sounds, and D'ni words show up on the bottom from a typewriter, translating to the words: "Come to our resort for a summer week of relaxation! A gift for the Miller Bros. of Cyan Worlds." I really wanna make this off Washington.

  • ok... but it might be better if you kidnap them & make them solve puzzles to get out alive (wonder how you'd do the linking books...)

  • that's like the saw series...

  • except theres more than one crazy person i.e sirrus, gehn, savedro (not sure i spelled his name right...)

  • @dragoncaretaker94 Saavedro wasn't really crazy, just exiled for 20 years.

  • its been some time since i've really done anything MYST-related so im not too surprised but wouldnt being exiled for 20 year probably drive you crazy too? p.s why was he exiled in the first place i forgot...

  • cool soundtrack.

  • das war ein geiles spiel.....stunden verbracht dran.....

  • god i remember beating this for the first time... ten years after i first got it... this theme was always unnerving

  • when i first played this game ( i was like, 6) i was scared shitless from all the sounds and music

  • nostalgia. yea me too. It seems so epic now. It's interesting how childhood memories can induce such strong emotions.

  • yea this does claw its way into my past every time i listen to these things

  • when i was little i thought it was awesome :P

  • ha I was 4 when I play the game for the first time........with my mom.........

  • I know! this song is scary-epic! it doesn't scare me shitless anymore, but if i was in the middle of an abandon island and this started playing. i would be.

  • I figured out most of the puzzles, then my Dad took me to the next one. We completed 3 of the 4 endings. Two bad ones and the proper good one.

  • the last one is really easy, return to atrus without the white page.

  • I had always hated this game because I never got any of it...But now I bought it and I can't wait to play it!!!

  • i played this game as a kid, and it scared it so much lol, i actually almost beat it too...

  • Heh, that seems to be the story of a Myst-players life: "I almost beat it!"

You're right though, this game, first time around, is pretty damn creepy for a game of it's time.

  • Not so much as foreboding as Riven though. That one always makes you think there's someone right behind you holding a knife.

  • I LOVE THIS GAME!!

  • awesome game with the most awesome music. the music and the sounds are still hunting my mind.

  • Wow, I remember Myst. It was one of my first computer games, and it scared me like nothing else.

Even my PARENTS couldn't solve it xD

  • I'll never forget being 7 playing this...

couldn't solve a thing, so I did every single clock tower combination hahaha

I eventually completed the game after about 3 years. :D

  • lol I first played it when I was 4 or 5, then stopped for several years, tried to beat it again, stopped, started then finally beat it three times in one day lol.

  • this scares the shit out of me.....

  • lol ya... I know that there are no human interactions in this game but i still cant help but look over my shoulder every over second...

  • the person that was speaking is Atros Father of Sirrus and Achenar and Yeesha

  • this game was creepy as all heck during nighttime

  • haha ik i was scared to play this when i was 5 and i never did understand it because i couldnt read the letter that the girl gave the dude

  • i got my first computer when i was 4 and it came with this and i was scared of the game when i played it a night ROFAL

  • tell me about it. when i first played was when i was 7 and at night, and the slightest sound made me jump up

  • Me, too! The noise it makes when you're traveling into another Age scared me silly. D:

  • Me too, it reminded me too much of the iconic Friday 13th noise

  • @Andylong99 do you mean playing it at night? or the REALmyst game with timechanges

  • what was the text???

"I realized the moment I fell into the fissure the book would not be destroyed as I planned. Continuing falling into that Stary Expense, which I could have only a few clips" and so on.

    Where's my CD!?

  • "I realized the moment I feel into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned. It continued falling into that starry expanse, of which I had only a fleeting glimpse. I have tried to speculate where it might have landed, but I must admit such conjecture is futile. Still, questions about whose hands might one day hold my Myst book are unsettling to me. I know my apprehensions might never be allayed, and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written"

  • Oh, wow! Thank you for posting that! I've always wondered what Atrus said and I could never hear some of the words. I'm such a nerd, I'm starting to quote Atrus while I'm hear this song play. Ah, my childhood was the best because I had Myst! Yay!

  • same here

  • Robyn Miller is a God!

  • So atmospheric, but the Riven soundtrack is even better!

  • i love myst it is amazing thanks for uploading this 5/5

  • This brings back memories :)

  • One of the best theme songs I know of. Truly moody.

  • pretty cool music
